Dev Anand’s cult classic Hum Dono to re-release early next year

It may be recalled that a few years back K. Asif’s cult classic Mughal-e-Azam was re-released in colour during the Diwali weekend. Now the evergreen superstar Dev Anand is all set to release his famous film Hum Dono in a brand new colour version. The film is likely to have a theatrical release on 28 January in the overseas market and in the first week of February in India.

Hum Dono it may be recalled had Dev Anand playing a double role along with actresses Nanda and Sadhana. The new version of film has been colorized using a very advanced technology in US and is in Cinemascope with Dolby Digital Ex surround sound.

It will be interesting to see if the youngsters of today go and watch this evergreen cult classic when it releases early next year.

Helen skips Teesri Manzil screening for Dabangg

The solidarity, unity and love within Salman Khan’s family would put a Sooraj Barjatya film to shame. On Saturday evening, at a special screening of Vijay Anand’s Teesri Manzil, Helen who played a pivotal part in the film couldn’t make it because she was busy with a screening of Salman’s Dabangg.

Teesri Manzil’s leading lady Asha Parekh who missed Helen at the screening says, “Why only Helen? Salim Khan saab too acted in Teesri Manzil! They both were expected for the screening. But couldn’t come because of Salman’s film. In fact, while I was watching Teesri Manzil, Helen called to invite me for a screening of Dabangg on Sunday.”

Talking about Helen, Asha Parekh states, “She looked so much lovelier and danced so much better than me in Teesri Manzil. She looks no more than 17-18 in the film. God bless her.”

The special screening of Vijay Anand’s Teesri Manzil saw quite a turn-out of technicians and artistes association with this evergreen film. While the late Vijay Anand was represented by his son Siddharth, the film’s producer, Nasir Hussain’s son Mansoor Khan did not turn up for the show (Mansoor was in Ooty). Nasir saab was represented by his nephew Aamir Khan.

Purab Kohli replaces Aditya Narayan as host of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV

Even though he is not a drummer in real-life, he played the role of a drummer to the hilt in the cult film Rock On. No prizes for guessing as to we are indeed talking about the versatile actor Purab Kohli, who, after starting off his showbiz career as a VJ, went onto become an integral part of Bollywood. Testimonials to this stand terra firma in the form of his memorable roles in films like My Brother Nikhil, Supari, Rock On etc. to name a few.

The good news is that this man with the ‘Killer Smile’ is back and how! He will now be replacing the singer-turned-host-turned-actor Aditya Narayan in the evergreen reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV. Readers may recollect it is this show which made heroes of many an unknown name! Speaking about his new ‘role’, an excited Purab spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama saying, “I am really excited about the show because of the young energy that the makers want to bring in the show. That’s exactly what is driving me and making me excited about this show. To be involved in a show of this stature is an amazing feeling. People are really surprised that I am doing this show.” When asked about any developments on the films front, Purab said, “I am eagerly waiting for my film Josh E Jawaani to release. It is the same film which was earlier tilted as Rangeen.”

Looks like Purab’s life is all set to become more colourful than ever!

Veteran actor Mac Mohan passes away

One of the evergreen dialogues that has made and shaped Bollywood as to what it is today happens to be ‘Arre O Samba…Kitne aadmi the’… from the evergreen cult film Sholay. The irony of life is that while this dialogue happens to be immortal, the mortal ‘Samba’ in question, passed away yesterday, as he lost his battle to the dreaded cancer.

While Samba was his screen-name in Sholay, his original name was Mac Mohan and he remained famous for his most stylish beard even then. Having started his ‘Bollywood ka safar’ with the film Haqeeqat in the year 1964, Mac Mohan acted in over 190 films over a period of a whopping 46 years. Some of the most prominent films in which he acted include Don, Sholay, Karz, Satte Pe Satta, Zanjeer, Rafoo Chakkar, Shaan… to name a few. His last film was Bombay To Goa: Laughter Unlimited, however, he also did a cameo after that in Luck By Chance. Very few people know the fact that, besides being one of the finest actors, Mac Mohan also happens to be the maternal uncle of Raveena Tandon.
