Conan O’Brien launches new show on cable channel TBS

LOS ANGELES: Former “Tonight Show” host Conan O’Brien returned to television on Monday, more than nine months after he lost his coveted network job, and poked fun at his downsized gig on a cable channel.
His opening monologue, predictably, revolved around his unceremonious departure from the NBC role he had coveted for years and his arrival at TBS, whose lineup includes old sitcoms like “King of Queens” and “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
“Welcome to my new show. It’s called ‘Conan,’” the bearded 47-year-old comic told the audience at a Burbank soundstage around the corner from his old employer. “People ask me why I named the show ‘Conan.’ I did it so I’d be harder to replace.

Last Comic Standing’ – ‘L.A. Auditions’: Season 7 Premiere Recap S07E01) For stand-up comedians, NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing’ has the same “easy road” stigma that singers feel ‘American Idol’ has. The show even took a year long break before coming back for its seventh season. Former winners have been as hit-or-miss as those on ‘Idol.’ Revamped once again (the show is on its fifth host and an all-new judging panel), ‘Last Comic’ is back.
The two-hour premiere focused entirely on auditions at The Improv in Los Angeles. The judging panel — with established comics Greg Giraldo, Natasha Leggero and Andy Kindler — weed through comedians, all aiming for a spot on that night’s showcase.
Giraldo, known for his cutting bits on Comedy Central’s Roasts, says he prefers comics who have “suffered a little” and “can put a spin on it.” Leggero, known for her ’snobby, rich girl’ stand-up persona, says she stresses material and point of view. (Full disclosure: I’ve met Leggero a couple of times. She’s very friendly and helpful — and she’s incredibly tiny in person.) Last is Kindler from ‘Everybody Loves Raymond,’ who proclaims you can’t teach stand-up comedy.
But now it’s time for the first auditioner: Maronzio Vance from North Carolina, who also auditioned during season 2. Vance has a pretty dry delivery on stage and looks off to the side a lot. It’s a totally different persona than off stage. I don’t particularly enjoy this brand of comedy but the judges love him — particularly Leggero, who even highlights his delivery.
As an aside, something that right away stands out as a flaw with ‘Last Comic’ is that the judging panel are all comedians as well who want to look as funny on TV as the contestants. It’s like if after someone auditioned with a song, the ‘Idol’ judges were all singers who then sang their responses, each trying to outdo each other vocally while also putting someone through to the next round. It’s overwhelming to watch.
Pyaar Impossible Movie Preview
The much anticipated Uday Chopra & Priyanka Chopra starrer, Pyaar Impossible, an adorable romantic comedy, made under the prestigious YRF banner, is all set to hit the screens in January 2010.
Produced by Uday Chopra and directed by Jugal Hansraj, the unusual love story Pyaar Impossible also stars Dino Morea & Anupam Kher. The music of the film is done by duo Salim – Sulaiman and lyrics penned by Anvita Dutt Guptan.
Synopsis:
In Ankert University, California, Alisha (Priyanka Chopra) is the name of that dream everyone wished came true. The most beautiful girl on campus, she makes hearts flutter like leaves in the wind. A snap of her fingers and a line of boys, waiting on her every whim. Everybody Loves Alisha!
It is no surprise then that Abhay (Uday Chopra) loves her too. More than his computer programs and MAC stores he thinks of Alisha. Who is Abhay? Abhay is a nerdy, awkward, socially challenged, bespectacled geek of the college who is so far removed from her world that she doesn’t even know that people like him actually exist.
This is a love story of impossible proportions, how can a man like Abhay ever hope to be with a woman like Alisha, and therein lies the story…
Abhay has quietly loved Alisha all his life. One day he musters up enough courage to go and express his true feelings to her and realizes that it is never gonna happen. He comes to terms with the fact that Alisha is a Princess and he is just a Geek. That is when their ways eventually part. Later, their paths cross again, as Abhay is busy trying to launch his career. ABHAY (Uday Chopra):
Abhay is a nerdy, awkward, socially challenged, bespectacled geek. He has two loves in his life, his first is Alisha and the second, computers. We meet him first in University where he falls for Alisha, knowing that there can never be anything between them. Later, when we meet him again, he is trying to launch his career. He comes face to face with Alisha again and we see that he still loves her, the same as he always did. Abhay is the kind of person who has no confidence in himself and is a shy and reticent person yet at the same time he is so full of love for Alisha that he is willing to live the rest of his life loving a person who he knows he will never be with.
ALISHA (Priyanka Chopra):
Alisha is a vivacious, sexy girl who everyone loves in college. The free spirit that she is, doing what she likes, she sometimes goes overboard with it. We first meet her in University and then years later, after college, when life has taught her some lessons and made her more mature. But somewhere behind that maturity she is the same bumbling, crazy girl she used to be, with the same free spirit.
