PPP pursuing politics of reconciliation: Gilani

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan Peoples Party would continue to pursue the politics of reconciliation, and vowed that none would be allowed to destroy Karachi peace.
The PM expressed these views while MQM delegation called on him on Saturday in Islamabad. Countrys political status quo and Karachi targeted killing was brought under consideration during the meeting.The PM assured the delegation that miscreants would be dealt with iron hands. He said that PPP would take all parties on board regarding important decisions.Later, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar also called on the PM and discussed regional security and other issues vis–vis countrys defence.

Constitution cleansed of dictatorial distortions: Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani says that the Constitution has been cleansed of dictatorial distortions after the passage of 18th Amendment.

He expressed these views while speaking to Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court, Agha Rafiq Ahmed, at the Prime Minister House Friday.

Prime Minister Gilani said the government believes in rule of law and supremacy of constitution.

“The system will now be back on track after the passage of the 18th Amendment,” he said.

Speaking on this occasion, Chief Justice FSC congratulated the prime minister for passage of 18th Amendment and praised his government for its role in the independence of judicial system.

Jaswant meets Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif urged the political leadership of Pakistan and India to keep in view the desires of people in resolving the outstanding issues.

He expressed these views while speaking to former Indian external minister Jaswant Singh, who called on him at the Punjab House in Islamabad.

Former premier said that resumption of talks between Pakistan and India was imminent for lasting and durable peace in the region.

He underscored that the scholars of both countries could play a positive role in resolving the political disputes.

On this occasion, Singh presented his book ‘Jinnah, India, Partition, Independence’ to the PML-N chief.

Power Shortfall up to 3000 MW

Lahore: energy deficit has soared to 3,000 megawatts (MW) across the country and 5 hours load-shedding takes place in cities and 8-10 hours in rural areas.

According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (Private) Limited (PEPCO) officials, a difference of 3,000 MW was recorded in the supply and demand forcing the company to take 5-7 hours load shedding in all major cities like Lahore and 8-10 hours in rural areas.

PEPCO officials said, “energy demand will drop as the mercury drops.

“Buenos Aires and other provinces are facing difficulties from 700 MW / day electricity is being supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

Supply of fuel oil to power all continues as routinely added.

PM Gilani Meets President Hu Jintao

BEIJING: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday met Chinese President HU Jintao to discuss bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Gilani during the meeting will invite China for investment in Pakistan. The two leaders will also discuss regional peace and fighting against terrorism.

Earlier in a meeting with a delegation Gilani stressed the need for greater cooperation between the defence industries of Pakistan and China as an important step to fortify the all-weather strategic partnership.

The Prime Minister expressed these views in his meeting with Chen Qiufa, Administrator of China’s State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) who led a delegation of China’s defence-related companies.

Prime Minister Gilani told the delegation that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with China and wanted to further expand and promote bilateral cooperation particularly in the field of defence production.

Ramzanul Mubarak and Govt of Punjab

Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan:- Chief Secretary Punjab, Javed Mehmood has said that the Punjab government is spending billions of rupees for provision of atta and sugar to the people at cheaper rates during Ramzanul Mubarak. He urged upon the philanthropist and well-to-do people to come forward and earn the blessings of Allah Almighty by helping the poor and deserving persons by arranging Iftar Dastarkhans.

He expressed these views during his surprise visit to a Ramzan Bazar set up at Shorekot district Jhang by the district administration. He said that there is no shortage of atta and sugar and the sugar would be sold at Rs.47/kg even after Ramzannul Mubarak. The Chief Secretary expressed his pleasure over sale of 20kg atta at Rs.194 and 10kg atta bag at Rs.97 in district Jhang and said that this is an example to be followed by other districts of Punjab. On this occasion, DCO Asad Islami Honey told that atta, sugar, chicken and other edibles are being sold at cheaper rates in 13 sastay bazaars. He also told that no buyer of atta is returning without atta as a result of manifold increase in the quota of atta. Chief Secretary also inspected the Ramzan Bazars at Bharwana and Garh Maharaja and appreciated the performance of district administration Jhang.
