Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh reached the stadium together before the toss.

Both the leaders shook hands with the players after the anthem ceremony.

As this is a very short trip, PM Gilani will return to Pakistan tonight. MQM comes up with 9-point charter of economy

MQM has announced its 9-point charter of economy. And it would be presented in the second round of meeting with the economic team of the government.

In a news conference in Islamabad, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that it is inevitable to implement the charter of economy to avoid the Egypt-like situation in the country. Sattar said that IMF delegation told him that condition of imposing RGST was not asked by the IMF instead it was presented by Pakistani team. He said that it is demanded in the charter to impose tax on 6,000 landlords, sugar mafia and the affluent class. He said that demand of land reforms and reforms in public sector enterprises were also included in the charter. He said that additional resources of worth Rs 1000 billion can be attained by implementing the charter of economy.

Coordination Among Political Parties Need of Hour: Sattar

MQM Urges Agriculture Tax in RGST Talks

KARACHI, News Trends: The second round of talks, held between government officials and a delegation from MQM to review RGST, has concluded here late Wednesday.

Government, during the talks, assured MQM of reviewing RGST, however, MQM insisted on imposition of taxes on agriculture sector instead of poor people.

Federal Interior Minister Abdul Rehman Malik and Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh met with MQM delegation comprising Dr. Farooq Sattar, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Babar Khan Ghauri, Haider Abbas Rizvi and Dr. Sagheer Ahmed here at Governor House.

Talking to media at the end of talks, Malik, dispelling news regarding deadlock, said dialogues were ‘successful’, adding that MQM apprised government of reservations over RGST. Talks held amid friendly atmosphere, he maintained.

He said both sides agreed upon not overburdening poor masses by means of huge taxes.

“Government reckons MQM’s suggestions of bringing agriculture sector under tax network rational,” the minister said, “government is in favour of agriculture tax but provincial governments should have to take measures in this regard.”

Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said RGST is not a new tax while daily commodities would not be brought under tax through RGST, he added.

He hoped continuation of talks to review RGST.

Subsequently, MQM’s Farooq Sattar, Federal Minister for Oversees Pakistanis, told media that MQM had informed government of reservations over RGST, which comprised of 9 points.

Imposition of agriculture tax is leading the rest among 9 points, which MQM presented to government officials during talks, the minister maintained.

He said, “MQM wants government to bring well-offs under taxing network instead of overloading poor people.”

Babar Khan Ghauri, on the occasion, said MQM hopes government will show seriousness in reviewing RGST in light of our party’s suggestions.

KARACHI: MQM deputy convener Dr. Farooq Sattar said Tuesday that his party was taken into confidence by the government on the issue of price hike.

Speaking to journalists at Nine Zero today, he said that Rehman Malik had promised to brief MQM legislators about the state of the country’s economy and price hike two months back.

Malik was yet to honor his promise, he said, adding that the MQM had cancelled its plan to boycott the proceeding of two Houses over government’s promise.

The MQM leader said that the sugar crisis was benefitting the feudalists and land lords.

He said that the MQM had repeatedly drawn government’s attention toward possible sugar crisis. However, it failed to allow import of sugar on time, leading to this crisis.

The PIA flight, PK-788, left London’s Heathrow Airport for Karachi after one-hour delay due to unfavorable weather condition.

Family members including deceased’s widow Shumaila, Imran, his children, parents, sisters and brothers-in-law are also on the same flight.

KARACHI: MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Friday met with parents of slain party’s leader, Dr Imran Farooq, in London on Friday to express his condolence.

MQM deputy convener Dr. Farooq Sattar and other senior party leaders were also present on this occasion.

Altaf Hussain met Dr. Imran Farooq’s father Farooq Ahmed, mother Raeesa Farooq, wife Shumaila Imran, sisters and brothers-in-law to convey party’s condolences.

LONDON: The funeral prayers of slain Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Dr Imran Farooq, have been offered at Hendon Mosque London.

Several MQM leaders including MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Dr Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal and the members of MQM Coordination Committee attended the funeral prayers.

Altaf Hussain, after offering the funeral prayers, said that he was satisfied with the investigation of London police.

Dr Farooq Sattar, while talking to Trend Pk, said that Dr Imran’s body will reach at 9:30 am on Saturday at Karachi airport.
