Michael Jackson’s children cement his legacy

LOS ANGELES: Late pop star Michael Jackson was immortalized in cement on Thursday when his three children stamped the “Thriller” singer’s glove and shoe prints in the hallowed concrete courtyard of Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Well over a hundred fans of the King of Pop and celebrities including Justin Bieber and Jackson family members watched the song and dance spectacle and listened to the three children talk about the legacy of their father.

“My dad won the lifetime achievement award. It was an award he strived and worked the hardest to get but for me, and I think for him as well, this right here is his lifetime achievement award. This is what he strived to get and this is what we are giving him now today,” said Prince Michael, 14, Jackson’s eldest son.

Jackson’s daughter Paris, 13, imprinted her father’s iconic silver sequined glove and scrawled his name into the cement, adding a heart in between Michael and Jackson. Prince Michael and his brother Blanket, 9, put their father’s shoe into the cement, and all three left their own handprints next to dad’s.

The hour-long ceremony included spoken tributes and musical performances from Jackson’s friends and family, including his brothers Tito and Jackie, who were part of the Jackson 5, and mother Katherine who called the event “a very very solemn occasion for my son.”

“Michael, we miss you, that’s for sure. There’s hardly a day that goes by without him going on in my mind somehow, some way, and I know he is here today with us,” said Tito Jackson.

Musical producer Quincy Jones, who worked with Jackson on one his most successful album, “Thriller,” Motown singer Smokey Robinson and comedian Chris Tucker, a friend of Jackson’s, shared their personal memories of Jackson while Canadian pop sensation Bieber called him “an inspiration.”

“People are going to remember him for his dancing and his singing, but people need to remember him for who he was,” said Bieber.

“Everything I do, I look at Michael and I want to be as good as he was,” said Bieber, 17, whose rise to fame was compared to the late singer by Paris as she introduced him.

Jackson gained success with songs such as “ABC” and “I’ll Be There” as a child singer with his brothers, and later pursued a solo career that earned him worldwide fame and fans with hits such as “Rock With You,” “Bad,” and “Beat It.”

His sudden death from a drug overdose in 2009 aged 50, sent shockwaves around the world. Late last year, Jackson’s doctor at the time was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for administering a surgical anesthetic to Jackson as a sleep aid.

Jackson’s glove and shoe imprints will be placed alongside Hollywood screen legends such as Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Sidney Poitier outside the iconic Hollywood theater that has been a tourist attraction for decades.

Notably absent from the ceremony were Jackson’s sisters Janet and LaToya as well as brothers Jermaine and Randy.

The event, hosted by the late singer’s estate, showcased dancers from Cirque du Soleil’s Jackson tribute show and featured “Glee” cast member Harry Shum, Jr. ahead of the show’s Jackson tribute episode next week. AGENCIES

There is no denying the fact that K.Asif’s Mughal-E-Azam is among the greatest Hindi films made till date. Even ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’ Shah Rukh Khan is a huge fan of the yesteryears’ classic, so much so that he has the original camera on which the film was shot as a priceless souvenir at his abode Mannat.

Now King Khan, after meeting with K.Asif’s son Akbar Asif, has made a documentary on Mughal-E-Azam. The 40 minute documentary has not only been produced by Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment but he has also given the narration for the same.

The documentary called ‘Mughal-E-Azam – A tribute by a son to his father’ has bytes from many B-town biggies and is put together by Deven Munjal. The documentary will be launched shortly by Khan in truly King-size fashion.

Amitabh is my younger brother, claims Jaffar Hussain

FAISALABAD: One Jaffar Hussain, hailing from Faisalabad, has claimed that Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan is his younger brother, trendpk.com reported.

Jaffar Hussain resident of Nawanpind, Faisalabad asserted that Amitabh had runaway to Karachi with Amir Badsha, and later to Mumbai at the age of 14, adding that his Islamic name was Subh Sadiq.

He said that Amitabh Bachchan was keen to work in movies since childhood. He said his father Abdul Haq was a goldsmith, who had registered a case against Amir Badshah in 1963.

Hussain also stated that one of their sisters namely Sardaran Bibi (late) had great affection with Amitabh.

Big B in remake of Belgian film

The hunt is on for a 17-year old newcomer to play the Big B’s daughter in a remake of a Belgian film. The mega-star’s first official remake of a foreign film this untitled Hindi version of the Belgian director Dominique Deruddre’s Oscar-nominated film Iedereen Beroemd (Everybody’s Famous) is special because of its theme.
The Big B loves the idea of doing a father-daughter film.
Amitabh Bachchan who has done innumerable father-son films, both as the son (Trishul, Shakti) and as the father (Sarkar, Waqt) is now all set to embark on a unique emotional father-daughter film. A theme that the Big B has been eager to explore. The Belgian film is about a father who dreams of making his daughter a singer.
It’s also his first bona fide remake of a foreign film.
Says the film’s producer, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, “When I saw the Belgian film I was completely bowled over. The father-daughter story is so Indian. We immediately sought out the rights and purchased it. Only Amitji can play the father. The hunt is on for a 17-year old girl to play his daughter.”

Mardan: Woman kills husband, his second wife

A woman has killed her husband and his second wife with the help of her father and brother in Mardan, trendpk.Com reported on Sunday.

According to sources, a person Lal Muhammad, who was a private school owner, had married twice which infuriated his first wife who alongwith her father Pir Muhammad and brothers Saleem and Muzammil came and opened fire on her husband and his second wife. After firing, they also wounded the deceased with sharp knives. Lal Muhmmas was also an employee in a school.

Akshay Kumar to play himself in Breakaway

In Breakaway, the Indo-Canadian film that Akshay Kumar is co-producing with his best-friend Canada-based entrepreneur Ajay Virmani to launch Virmani’s son Vinay, the star will for the first time appear as himself.

Akshay will play Akshay in Breakaway and that too because the debutant Vinay Virmani, who has co-scripted Breakaway, hero-worships Akshay and wrote the role especially for the star.

Says a source close to the project, “Akshay and AJ (that’s how Ajay Virmani likes to be known) go back a long way. In fact, AJ has a permanent room in his home for Akshay for whenever the star visits Toronto. Earlier, AJ ghost-produced some of Akshay’s films. Now they’re openly into joint ventures. Akshay has virtually seen Vinay grow up in front of him. The boy completely idolizes Akshay to the extent of imitating his mannerisms and watching all his films repeatedly.”

When Vinay wrote the father-son story in Breakaway, he not only borrowed scenes from his own life with his father-figure Akshay, the boy insisted on creating a cameo for his idol. For the first time, Akshay Kumar will appear as himself on screen.

Confirming this, Anupam Kher who plays Vinay Virmani’s father in Breakaway says from Toronto, “Akshay will appear as himself in the film. Breakaway is an emotional father-son story. I accepted the film because I’ve a very powerful role as a father.”

Anupam tried to grow a beard for the part. But finally gave up. “The facial growth was just not sufficient. So Vinay will have to make do with a beardless father.”

Fresh case of attempted forced marriage of minor girl surfaces

DADU: An attempt was filed to marry a three-year-old minor girl to a six-year-old boy in Mehr Tehsil, Dadu on Thursday.

Parents of the innocent girl, Zahida, managed to take their daughter to Dadu Press Club 30 minutes before the marriage was to take place. They staged a demonstration and demanded immediate justice.

The girl’s father, Shadi Khan, told journalists that his father-in-law had been forcing them to marry Zahida to his grandson.

Khan also moved an application in District and Sessions Court, Dadu.

On this, a District and Sessions judge summoned all parties, including the SHO of the concerned police station to the court on October 23. SAMAA
