N.Waziristan: Troop killed in Afghan mortar shells attack

A security personnel got killed while three others injured when fired from Afghanistan hit a military checkpost in North Waziristan, trendpk.com reported on Wednesday.
Sources said that as many as ten mortar shells fired from the Afghan side hit Bange-i-Dar checkpost in Ghulam Khan town in North Waziristan tribal district.As a result, four security men got injured of whom one succumbed to his injuries later. The wounded have been shifted to CMH located at Bannu.
The attack was ensued by an exchange of fire between Pakistan and Afghan forces, which is still continued.
Swabi: 2 cops killed, 6 hurt in Police Lines suicide attack
Two police personnel got killed while six others injured in a suicide attack at Police Lines in Swabi, Dunya News reported Monday.
According to DIG Mardan, the attack was a suicidal attack; the attackers were trying to barge into Police Lines, when he was intercepted by a police positioned there.
At least six cops including an inspector are injured in the attack, the police official said.
Both the attackers also got killed in the exchange of fire between the police and unidentified miscreants that ensued after grenade attack.
The police put security cordon off the area while the wounded have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
Two terrorists perish as forces foil suicide attack
MARDAN: A suicide plot, which might prove to be deadly, was foiled when two suicide bombers were killed in a bid to carryout a suicide attack on security forces present within Punjab Regiment Center (PRC) here in Mardan, Geo news reported Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, four security men sustained minor injuries in retaliatory firing, Geo news reported.
According to details so far reached here, terrorists launched a suicide attack on PRC in Mardan, injuring four security soldiers on Thursday morning, but failed to obtain ill-desired results as security forces retaliated in be-fitting passion, killing both suicide bombers on the spot.
Heavy contingents of police and rangers have placed a stern cordon around the incident site with some reports of exchange of fire between forces and miscreants, it has been learnt.
Four militants killed in Swat
SWAT: Four militants were killed during security forces operation in different areas of Swat.
According to official sources, four militants were killed during exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Miandam area in tehsil Khawazakhela. Forces also recovered rifles, grenades and knives from their possession.
On the other hand, security forces in Peochar area in tehsil Matta killed a militant whereas unknown gunmen shot dead two persons in tehsil Kabal.
Dr AQ Khan says my services never valued
Nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan deplored that he gave his life but his services have never been valued, adding that only fake degree holders are given privileges in this country.
Talking to media, after the LHC decision allowing him free movement, on Friday in Islamabad, a beaming Khan said that Ch Shujat often called him to ask after him, but Rehman Malik never fulfilled the promises he made with him. He said that the consequences of Musharrafs actions are being borne by the whole country and added that he left his matter to Allah Almighty. Earlier, Lahore High Court ruled that his movement could not be restricted as he is a free citizen of the country and disposed off the case filed by Dr Khan challenging his movement.
The court ordered the Law ministry should abide by the deal the government made with the nuclear scientist regarding his security and look for it that Khan is not harmed. Dr Khan contended in his request that he was put under arrest in the pretext of protocol, while the government argued otherwise.

Lahore: 80 killed as Ahmadi worship places assailed
At least 80 people were killed while 108 others, including a DSP and three cops, injured as terrorists assailed two Ahmadi worship places with hand grenades and opened indiscriminate firing simultaneously at Garhi Shahu and Model Town in Lahore on Friday.
Police managed to overpower the terrorists holed up in the Model Town worship place, whereas SSP (Operations) told the reporters that Ahmadi worship place in Garhi Shahu has also been cleared of after operation. Police said two suicide jackets and eight hand grenades were also recovered from the scene.
At least 70 people have been killed in both the attacks, Sajjad Bhutta, the top city administrative official in Lahore, told reporters.
Doctor Rizwan Nasir, head of the rescue 1122 in Lahore, said 108 people were wounded as police continued to search for any remaining attackers.
One terrorist also was arrested in the operation. Heavy contingents of police rushed the site, while Rangers were also called in to take control of the situation. The injured have been shifted to hospitals; the number of wounded have not been ascertained so far.
Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (Punjab Wing) claimed responsibility of the attacks.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the incidents would generate greater resolve to combat extremism.It’s a reminder to the nation that Pakistan will achieve its destiny only after we get rid of the worst type of extremism and fundamentalism, he told a news conference. The entire nation will fight this evil.
Punjab’s Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the arrested attacker was not a Punjabi. He said the attacker seems to be a Pashtun and possibly had a link to Waziristan.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) said it had warned of threats against the Ahmadi community centre in Lahore for more than a year and demanded foolproof security and protection from the government. It expressed concern over the increasing sectarian dimension of militancy in Pakistan, which it called a big security threat to the entire society.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, MQM leader Altaf Hussain and other key political leaders have condemned the attacks on Ahmadi worship places in Lahore and said that worship places of all the sects and minorities should be respected.
Armed men kill religious party member in Karachi
At least one person was killed and other sustained injuries during exchange of fire between members of a religious party and unidentified armed persons in Orangi area of Karachi, Dunya News reported on Friday. According to police, members of Ahl-e-Sunnat were returning from a martyres conference when unidentified persons opened firing on them, killing a boy named Shahazad on the spot. Angry people set a mini bus and motorcycle on fire. Heavy contingent of police was called after the incident.
Upper Dir Clash, 1 Militant Killed
UPPER DIR: One militant killed and several others injured in a clash between national lashkar and militants in Upper Dir.
According to sources, exchange of fire between militants and national lashkar tool place overnight in Ghazigai area. One militant was killed and several others wounded during firing.
Meanwhile, militants’ hideouts in tehsil Maidan of Lower Dir shelled from Timergira Scouts cantonment on Sunday night. Search operation of security force also underway in different areas of tehsil Maidan.
Curfew will be relaxed till 8:00 pm in tehsil Maidan, Dir media center announced. Swat media center announced curfew relaxation in Mingora city, Fizzagat and Charbagh till 7:00 pm whereas in Khwazakhela, Matta, Badara and Dareshkhela till 6:00 pm. Markets in Sakhakot, Dargai and Buttkhela remained open from 3: pm to 8:00 pm.
Federal Cabinet Condemns Gojra Riots
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is presently chairing a meeting of the Federal Cabinet here at PM Secretariat.
It was the first meeting of the cabinet after last week’s verdict by a full-bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan that declared the imposition of emergency on November 3, 2007, illegal and unconstitutional and decided to trail all those judges who took oath on PCO in Supreme Judicial Council.
According to the channel, the initial inquiry report of inter-communal riots in Gojra was tabled before the cabinet.
Cabinet members while expressing their grief and condemnation on the incident vow to protect the minorities in the country.
The cabinet would deliberate on the political situation of the country following the SC ruling besides discussing the law and order, rehabilitation of internally displaced persons of Malakand division, ongoing power crisis and other issues in its today’s sitting.
The cabinet would also approve the MoU recently signed with France on enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence.
Law and order and special security arrangements for Ramazan are also on cabinet meeting’s agenda.
