PML-Ns parliamentary committee to submit recommendations to Nawaz today
Fifteen-member Parliamentary committee of PML-N headed by Raja Zafarul Haq will present its recommendations to the party chief Nawaz Sharif regarding formation of new provinces.
The committee has proposed that the new provinces should be formed on administrative and population basis instead of ethnic basis.
It has been stressed in the recommendations that distribution of resources should be made certain before the formation of new provinces on administrative basis instead of dividing one or two provinces.
PML-N will decide its policy today regarding formation of new provinces in the light of committee’s recommendations.
Sheikh Rashid sees bleak outlook for govt
KARACHI: Chief of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid Saturday said it seems from the overall situation in the country that the government got caught out at slip.
Talking to media after a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Functional) chief Pir Pagara at Kingri House here, AML chief said the national scenario is not quite satisfactory, adding, ‘Muslim League (Nawaz) never takes stand against the federal government, as they dread the formation of coalition government between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) in Punjab.’

KARACHI: Four factions of Muslim League agreed on Friday to form a new league, Muttahida Muslim League; sources said that Pir Pagara, chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, is to lead this new league.
Pir Pagara, after holding the meeting at his residence, Kingri House, confirmed with media persons that leaders of different factions of Muslim League agreed to form the new party.
“I am happy to see the formation of the Muttahida Muslim League,” Pir Pagara said.
He said that other factions of Muslim League would also be contacted to come under the umbrella, including the Sharif and Chaudhry brothers.
He said that the new party will form the government after winning general elections in the country.

US ‘concerned’ about Iran influence in Afghanistan: WHouse

WASHINGTON — The White House said Monday the world has “every reason to be concerned” about Iranian influence in Afghanistan, after President Hamid Karzai admitted receiving bags of cash from Tehran.
Bill Burton, the White House deputy spokesman, told reporters traveling with President Barack Obama that the administration had seen the reports about the payments made to Karzai’s chief of staff.
“And I think the American people and the global community have… every reason to be concerned about Iran trying to have a negative influence on Afghanistan,” he said.
He added Iran had a responsibility to exert “a positive influence on the formation of a government there, and to ensure that Afghanistan is not a country where terrorists can find safe harbor, or where attacks can be planned on their soil.”

Babar asks Shahbaz to treat allies like N MPAs
Federal Law Minister Babar Awan on Sunday called upon Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to treat his allies in the same way as he treats his party MPAs.
Talking to mediamen at Lahore Airport, Babar quipped that the Punjab government should give due heed to dengue virus instead of political virus, adding that the former could catch mosquitoes, if not the absconders.
Replying to a question about the interim short order by the Supreme Court regarding the judges appointment issue in 18th amendment, the minister said the SC orders are being implemented in letter and spirit and the government would assist the apex court and Bars in the formation of judicial commission, which would be set up soon.
When asked for his take on the court ruling, he said I would speak on it in the Parliamentary Committee for Constitutional Reforms (PCCR) meeting, scheduled to be held on November 1. It has been demanded in the letter that bar councils should appoint their representative for judicial commission. According to article 175-A, one representative of Pakistan Bar Council will be present in the judicial commission formed for judges of Supreme Court; where as each representative of provincial bar councils related to provincial high courts will be present. Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will call the meeting of judicial commission. On 21st October, in the decision of 18th amendment case, Supreme Court ordered to implement article 175-A with immediate effect, according to which the judicial commission and parliamentary committee was to be formed for appointment of judges.

Kalabagh Dam has only been discussed since 1953, Pervez Ashraf
Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that consensus on the construction of Kalabagh Dam is only possible if the three provinces review their resolutions passed on the issue, otherwise how could it be constructed.Talking to media at Lahore Airport, the minister said that the dam has only been discussed since 1953. He further opined that rumors about change of government started soon after the formation of government but the government would complete its tenure.
Tehran: Assad meets Ahmadinejad
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met in Tehran and discussed bilateral relations, including investment, development and increasing trade between the two countries.
The two leaders also expressed their support for the formation of an Iraqi national unity government that represents all Iraqis, and Ahmadinejad briefed Assad on developments related to Irans nuclear programme, the report added.
Shia Ulema Council demands suspension of Rehman Malik

KARACHI: The Shia Ulema Council (SUC) has demanded the government to suspend Interior Minister Rehman Malik for his suggestion to limit religious activities as terrorist attacks can be avoided.
The Secretary of the SUC for Sindh, Nazir Abbas Naqvi, during his press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday, was of the view that Rehman Malik being the interior minister, should avoid passing such advice.
He said that the government should take appropriate measures. Naqvi said that the Punjab government was not serious in the formation of the Judicial Commission. SAMAA
