Musharraf supports military intervention in Karachi

LONDON: Former President General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf has also supported calls for military intervention in Karachi, where a fresh wave of violence killed over 60 people in a few days.

Former Governor Moinuddin Haider has blamed political parties for the breakdown of law and order in the country’s commercial capital.

Speaking at TrendPK program ‘Is Haftay’, Musharraf said foreign powers are not behind the Karachi mayhem, but he said that these powers could manipulate the situation due to our internal weaknesses.

“There are gang wars in the city. The government, if willing, can contain the violence,” says the former president.

“The killing of 20 to 30 people on daily basis has proved that political leadership has failed.”

He said police and rangers could bring the situation under control, but despite all their powers, if rangers have failed to maintain security, army must be deployed in the city.

Expressing his views on the issue, former governor Haider said that efforts being made by political parties to take control of Karachi were leading to such a grave situation in Karachi.

“Who are the killers and who are being killed; police, rangers and all political parties know everything,” he commented. TrendPK

Thus, Sarah Palin used her hand as part of the job she was hired to do for the Tea Party Movement. The finding, noted in several blogs, took the Internet by storm on Monday. Sarah Palin wrote the words “Energy”, “Tax” and “Lift American Spirits” in that order in her left hand’s palm. It was Palin’s palm-up pose that allowed the photo capture of what she scribbled. All this from a person, Sarah Palin, who criticized President Obama for using a teleprompter, yet did so in the same Tea Party speech where she was using her left hand’s crib notes, and also used one at the Republican National Convention.

Sarah Palin made a surprise appearance on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” on Friday — and turned the tables on actor William Shatner.

In recent appearances on the late-night television show, Shatner has adopted a serious pose and recited some of Palin’s less serious observations.

He was brought out again Friday to read passages from Palin’s blockbuster “Going Rogue.” The carefully selected passages included ones about rapper Kid Rock and stalking sheep.

Afterward, it was Palin’s turn to read from Shatner’s autobiography, “Up Till Now.” The former Alaska governor’s selections included one in which Shatner talks about visiting an African elephant “in my underwear.”

After the readings, there appeared to be no hard feelings. The two left the stage arm-in-arm.
