PPP resolves action against Musharraf, aides

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) here held its Core Committee (CC) meeting late on Saturday night.

Core Committee meeting reviewed report, investigated and presented by UN’s three-member independent panel to figure out causes of Benazir Bhutto assassination.

According to knowledgeable sources, In connection with UN investigative report, the meeting decided to move court against those officials from previous government, which were named as being responsible for allowing assassination on former premier Benazir Bhutto to happen due to non-serious security measures and former President Pervez Musharraf is no exception.

Also, the alleged suspects’ names will be put on Exit Control List (ECL), sources said.

Pakistan welcomes UN report on Bhutto assassination

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Friday welcomed a report by a UN-appointed panel which said the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto could have been averted.

A spokesman for President Asif Ali Zardari — Bhutto”s widower — said in a statement “the Pakistan Peoples Party welcomes this endorsement as the main thrust of the UN report”.

The independent panel Thursday said the 2007 murder of Bhutto was avoidable and the authorities deliberately failed to properly investigate her death.

Presidency expresses satisfaction over UN report

ISLAMABD: The president house camp has expressed contentment over investigative report of UN’s independent panel, which looked into assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, Geo news reported.

President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said following the news conference from UN commission, which investigated Benazir’s assassination, has proved PPP’s reservations true.

We always insisted that former president Musharraf-led government was responsible for killing of Benazir, he said.

After the presentation of report, Farhatullah Babar told Geo news that his party’s stance over UN’s investigative report will come to surface after a through review of report.

6 Accused in Murtaza Bhutto murder case acquitted

KARACHI, Pakistan News : A local court on Friday acquitted six accused in leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case on Friday.

The accused included Mazhar Memon, Asghar Ali, Asif Ali Jatoi, Mehmood Bhallai, Ghulam Mustafa Chandio and Akhter Ali Mirani.

Mir Murtaza Bhutto, brother of former premier Benazir Bhutto, was killed in an alleged police encounter.

In September 1996, according to police, Mir Murtaza Bhutto and his companions were stopped near his residence in Clifton, Karachi. He was gunned down along with his eight party workers.

In this regard, Clifton police had registered a case in which the shootout was declared a police encounter.

The judgment in the case was reserved by Sessions Court-East judge Aftab Ahmed Khan after arguments concluded last week following years of hearing.

The accused are alleged to have opened fire on the police party stationed near 70-Clifton, which was supposed to inspect Bhutto’s convoy, on September 20, 1996. Bhutto along with many of his companions was killed in the mysterious shootout later in the evening.
