“Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” – Reviews are in!

TrendPK.com: Directed by Kevin Tancharoen (2009’s “Fame”), “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” depicts a Glee concert in East Rutherford, New Jersey during the cast’s Glee Live! In Concert! tour. The film features backstage footage and a familiar setlist of songs from the show’s first and second seasons.
While Gleeks won’t get a chance to weigh in on the concert movie until this weekend, “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” currently sits at 65% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and seems to deliver exactly what it’s promising: a 3D concert for only the most die-hard Gleeks.
Here’s what critics are saying:
“You get the feeling that you’re actually there, with the best seat in the house.” — Jessica Bakeman, Minneapolis Star Tribune
“Even the uninitiated could do a lot worse than this 80-minute musical valentine to the outsider in us all.” — Lael Loewenstein, Variety
“The Fox TV phenomenon is the Lewis & Clark of discovering new revenue streams. And this big-screen iteration is just as buoyant and bright-eyed as the rest of the franchise.” — David Hiltbrand, Philadelphia Inquirer
Then things started to turn a little more negative:
“It’s a thin feature, but undeniably entertaining, providing the fanbase with the colorful, boppy good time they’ve been longing for during the summer hiatus.” — Brian Orndorf, BrianOrndorf.com
“I’m calling bullsh** on this 3D concert movie. The movie plays like an evangelical prayer meeting, though I’d hold the hallelujahs.” — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
“Sprinkles only a few highlights of real musical talent through an otherwise blatant pat-on-the-back montage.” — Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter
“It strains to celebrate diversity and individualism, while its processed music exemplifies strict corporate teamwork.” — Stephen Holden, New York Times
“Even the totally Gleeked-out, most ardent fans of Fox’s hit television show Glee may find that the franchise’s latest endeavor leaves little to sing about.” — Joy Tipping, Dallas Morning News
New Harry Potter movie breaks box office records

LOS ANGELES: The new Harry Potter movie has broken box office records around the world, taking some 330 million dollars globally in one of the biggest weekends of all time, its makers and estimates said Sunday.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One” made 125.1 million dollars in the United States and scored Britain’s biggest ever opening weekend with 28 million dollars, said Warner Brothers, the studio behind the franchise.
In Australia the movie made 15 million dollars while it earned 12 million in Russia — both the highest opening weekends of the Potter series, which will climax with the Part II of “Deathly Hallows” next year.
“This is truly a motion picture phenomenon, and it is just the beginning for the penultimate release of the franchise,” said Dan Fellman, head of US distribution.

mortal kombat rebirth

Just under eight minutes of something related to Mortal Kombat has been posted on YouTube. The video features Jax — sans cybernetic arms — grilling a mysterious perp in a police station. Through some (laborious) exposition, he describes new humanized (and gross) versions of Reptile and Baraka, along with Johnny Cage and a young, beardless Shang Tsung.
At first glance, one might assume it’s footage from the new, possibly derailed Mortal Kombat movie. Another possibility, given the video’s proximity to E3 and its introductory nature, is that this is a tease for the next Mortal Kombat game. Furthermore, the name of the newly created YouTube account is MortalKombatRebirth, which sounds like a perfectly suitable title for a new entry in the series. A third and altogether frightening possibility: This is all a prelude to a new movie / game tie-in.
We know Warner Bros. is interested in the franchise, so it’s safe to assume something is on the horizon. We’ve contacted WBIE for more info. One way or another, it seems likely we’ll hear more by next week.I guarantee that the tone of the short differs from anything you’ve ever seen out of the “Mortal Kombat” universe. There’s some “Saw” in here for sure, that gory, grainy feel, like you need to take a bath after watching it. It’s dead serious and pretty in-your-face with the gore. Also, it’s great. I have no idea if it’s pegged to a movie or a video game or if it’s just a standalone piece of awesome tape — we’ve reached out to Warner Bros. for comment — but I would guess that it is definitely not fan-produced. Check it out after the jump.

activision bungie

Bungie has signed an exclusive deal with Activision that will now result in the house that Pitfall built exclusively distributing Bungie’s next big franchise for the next ten years. Of course Microsoft still owns Halo, so we won’t be seeing this with the Activision brand on it or the franchise appearing anywhere else.
Based on the information so far, the deal covers a completely new intellectual property that Bungie must create. No word yet on what will become of the IP following the end of the deal. There’s also no word on whether it could include something in the Marathon Universe.
The biggest question is who will take over work on the Halo franchise? Check out the very first details of the deal as reported by CvG below:
Bungie has just signed a ten-year exclusive multiplatform deal with Activision.
The pair have announced today that they have entered into an exclusive ten-year partnership to bring Bungie’s ‘next big action game universe’ to market.
Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices.
Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The alliance provides Bungie its first such partnership since splitting with Microsoft in 2007.
Activision claims the deal ’significantly broadening its global reach by providing the resources and support to develop, distribute and release games worldwide on multiple platforms and devices’.
To date, Bungie’s Halo games have generated approximately $1.5 billion in revenues, according to The NPD Group, Charttrack and GfK.

Sam Waterston:In a previous article on S. Epatha Merkerson opened leaving ‘Law & Order “that I mentioned how it takes the output of a cast member of long-term to call the attention of fans and spectators. Well, the other thing that fits the same people to care is the intersection a character of a ‘Law & Order’ show to another. That’s because these people rarely have made appearances in other members of the franchise’s 250 years of state television.
In this case, Sam Waterston’s Jack McCoy will be appearing in an episode of “Law & Order: SVU.” Now, as Waterston has appeared on the show twice before in his office, this is the first time the District Attorney McCoy will be displayed in the SVU squad room. This will be the first time working with actor Christopher Meloni Waterston. It will be interesting to see how these two characters react to each other.
This episode “very special” “Law & Order: SVU premieres’ at the 28th with special guest star Sharon Stone April.
Scooby Doo the mystery begins
Scooby Doo the mystery begins, Tune into Cartoon Network at 7:00 p.m. ET to watch Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins, a live-action movie to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Scooby Doo. The movie tells the story of how Mystery, Inc. began, including the adoption of Great Dane Scooby. I like the idea of celebrating the anniversary of this wonderful, kooky cartoon. But I think doing an animated movie or re-booting the franchise in a back-to-basics series would be a much better tribute than a live-action movie. Bleh.

Google Monopoly city streets
Google Monopoly, Increasingly these days you hear the words “Google” and “monopoly” in the same sentence. There is no shortage of fears that the search giant is getting too powerful in the search and online advertising space. But today, the two words are being joined for an entirely different reason: The board game Monopoly is about to launch an online version with Google Maps.
All the details aren’t clear yet, as the game won’t launch until September 9. But it would appear that Hasbro, makers of the Monopoly game, is attempting to turn the franchise into a massively multi-player online game. Called “Monopoly City Streets,” here’s a brief description that is offered on the teaser site.

MCB Will Purchase RBS Pakistan’s 99.37% Shares
KARACHI: The Royal Bank of Scotland said on Wednesday that MCB Bank agreed to buy 99.37 percent of RBS Pakistan shares for around $87 million.
A source had told Reuters on Monday that the deal would be valued at around $90 million.
The Pakistan sale is part of moves by part-nationalised RBS to sell assets globally as it tries to exit up to 36 countries and focus on its mainly U.K. core businesses.
“This is an important transaction for us as it strengthens our franchise in the key urban centers and broadens our product offering to our retail as well as corporate customers,” Mian Mohammad Mansha, Chairman of MCB, said in a letter to the Karachi Stock Exchange confirming the deal.
MCB will add more than 75 RBS Pakistan branches in 24 cities, taking its total network to 1,139 branches, while its deposits would increase to 413 billion rupees ($4.98 billion).
MCB said it would fund the transaction entirely through internally generated cash reserves and would not be contingent on any external fund raising.
