Ashfaq Ahmad Khatak, General Manager Operations Pakistan Railways told this while talking to APP here on Saturday.

He said the PR administration has taken the decision in response to financial pressure as the prices of fuel and other utilities have risen substantially.

He said that fares of passenger trains run on short-distance sections, such as Lahore-Narowal, Lahore-Lalamusa,Lahore-Jaranwala as been increased by 10 per cent.fares for Mail and Express long distance inter-city passenger trains has been raised by 15 per cent, the fares for Non-stop passenger trains and freight trains has been increased by 20 per cent.

The GM said, the PR administration wanted to increase fares of freight trains by more than 20 per cent, adding that in order to facilitate the traders, the freight charges have been increased by only 20 per cent. He said the decision would be effective from Feb 1. Ashfaq Khatak stressed that the decision of increasing fares was taken after the approval of the cabinet.

Suspended trains engines to be used in freight service

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has announced suspension of six more passenger trains due to financial hardships faced by the train service.

GM Railways Ashfaq Khattak has refused to give timetable for the restoration of suspended trains and said at the moment it is not possible to give any specific time period for the restoration of trains.

Three trains are being suspended from Saturday today including Sakhi Abbas Express, Karachi-Mirpur Khas Express and Sialkot Express. The service of Chiltan Express and Tezro will be suspended from July 20 and Shalimar Express from July 29, the railway.

Talking to Geo News GM Railways said Railway facing deficit of Rs.1.5 billion annually because of these trains. The engines of suspended trains will be now be used to run freight trains as more than 60 freight trains are stuck at different stations due to non-availability of engines.

7ff6b612d1ervice Kotri Railway Track Restrored For Train ServiceKARACHI: The railway track, broke down due to freight trains’ collision here, has been repaired after 15 hours of rescue efforts, Geo news reported.

Divisional Superintendent Railway Karachi Aftab Memon, talking to Geo news early on Friday morning, claimed to have repaired the effected railway track near Kotri, saying the train service on the track has been restored now.

He said the delayed trains bound to interior Sindh from Karachi will be passed on the track in first phase while the train, meant for providing helping hand in rescue work in Korti, has arrived here.

DS Railways said this mishap has adversely affected the schedules of trains and now we will leave no stone unturned to fix the delays.
