Magnitude 7.4 quake hits Pakistan: USGS

ISLAMABAD: A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck southwestern Pakistan, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Tuesday.
It said the quake was very shallow at a depth of 10 km (6.3 miles). It struck 55 km (34 miles) west of Dalbandin at 1:23 a.m. local time on Wednesday (2023 GMT on Tuesday).
There was no immediate report of damage from the area which lies close to Pakistan’s troubled border with Afghanistan.
The Pacific Tsunami Center said the onshore quake had not triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
A major quake of this magnitude is capable of causing widespread and heavy damage and could pose fresh strains on a country still reeling from devastating floods last year which left more than 10 milllion people homeless.
Cyber crime wing: hacker of website of President of Pakistan arrested
Cyber crime wing has raided and arrested the hacker of the official website of the President of Pakistan, trendpk.Com reported on Monday. The wing has constituted a special committee for monitoring the hackers of official websites.
The cyber crime wing arrested a person named as Shahbaz from the area of Pindi Ghaip who hasd hacked the official website of President of Pakistan two days ago. Cyber crime wing has obtained a 3-day remand of Shahbaz and started investigations.
Indonesia volcano kills 64 in latest eruption
Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano killed 64 people and injured dozens when it erupted again on Friday, with scores more suffering severe burns and breathing problems.
The latest deaths bring the overall toll to more than 100 since the country’s most active volcano started erupting on October 26. An estimated 75,000 residents have been evacuated from the area.
Mount Merapi, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, is located in a densely populated area in central Java.
The latest eruption began late on Thursday, sending residents streaming down the mountain with ash-covered faces.
Karachi: CID Police arrests child trained for suicide attack
CID Police in Karachi have arrested two terrorists from the area of Sohrab Goth Karachi along with a young boy who was being prepared for a suicide attack, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.
Of those arrested, Muhammad Islam has said that he was prepared for the suicide attack by people named as Zahir Shah and Rauf. The child also said that he was threatened to be slaughtered in case of leaking the secret of suicide attack to anyone. He added that he was a student of grade 9 and he was told that suicide attack would take him to Jannaah. The child said that those who trained and prepared him used to meet him in different mosques and madrassaahs.
Karachi: 6 dead, 13 injured in violence incidents
At least six more people have died while 13 are injured in fresh incidents of violence in Karachi. Police have arrested two alleged suicide bombers belonging to the banned militant organization Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan. Police also confiscated a large number of weapons and ammunition from the bombers, Dunya News reported on Monday.
According to the police two dead bodies have been found from the area of Liaqatabad who are said to have been tortured to death. Some unidentified gunmen shot 25-year-old Abdullah Bengali to dead when he was present inside his house. Ayub Bengali (45) ans Arshad (33) were also killed in North Nazimabad and Jahangir Park respectively. A dead body of a 25-year-old man was also found in the precincts of Quaidabad Police station near Daud Chorangi. More or less 13 people were injured in firing incidents that occurred in different parts of the city.
On the other hand Sindh Rangers have arrested at least 11 people, including their leader, accused of target-killing in Karachi. According to the rangers, a team of Sindh Rangers raided a house in Landhi and arrested 11 people who were accused of being paid for target-killing in the city. The team also confiscated weapons and ammunition from them. Sources have also revealed the fact that the leader of those arrested, Maqboola, has been a member of a political party in past and now he has been involved in target-killing and was paid for the killings.
Karachi: death-toll on rise, fresh incidents claim 7 more lives
Violence continues and claims at least seven more lives in Karachi, Dunya News reported on Monday.
According to police, unidentified people gunned down a person named Asif Baloch near Malir Daud Goth. The deceased was recently selected in Police and was going for training when fires were shot on him. Dead bodies of a man and a woman were also found from the area of Mangho Pir who were tortured to death. The faces of both the dead bodies were found burnt. Police have declared the incident as a consequence of personal differences.unidentified dead bodies were also found from Moti Mahal and Awami Colony. A security guard was also killed by a bullet-fire near Hussainabad. Police said that the dead got killed from a fire of his own gun. Unidentified gunmen shot Muhammad Azam dead in Baldia Town, leaving Khurshid and Fazal injured.
On the other hand police and rangers are patrolling in the city continuously.
Suicide bombers of Abdullah Shah Ghazi incident identified
Suicide bombers who attacked at the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Karachi have been identified. Police has arrested the mother of a suspected suicide bomber from Daska.
According to the police officials, one of the suicide bomber has been identified as Badshah Gul who belongs to Waziristan; where as the other bomber has been identified as Ishtiaq who belongs to Tehsil Daska of Sialkot. Police officials say that Ishtiaqs mother identified her son when the CCTV footage was played on tv chanels. Ishtiaq had been missing from his house prior to the Eid-ul-Fitr, the sources added. Police then arrested Ishitaqs mother from the area of Daska and his mother Munawar Bibi claimed that her son had been missing from home since one month. She identified her son through the CCTV footage which was on-aired on tv channels. Munawar Bibi also told that Ishtiaq used to run from house quite oftenly so thats why we did not file a report in the police. DPO Sialkot told that actual investigation will be completed after the DNA.
Eight dead as cargo plane crashes near Kabul
A cargo plane operating on behalf of a US-based company crashed into mountains and burst into flames near the Afghan capital on Tuesday, killing all eight crew on board, officials said.
The plane had taken off from Bagram, one of the largest US-run military bases in Afghanistan, 60 kilometres (40 miles) north of Kabul.
Local aviation officials said the plane was carrying goods on behalf of the US-led NATO force in Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), but an ISAF spokesman said only that he was checking those reports.
Officials gave no immediate word on the cause of the crash, which happened after dark. Five months ago an Afghan passenger jet crashed into treacherous mountains near Kabul during bad weather.
A C-130 cargo plane operated by National Air Cargo was on its way from Bagram to Kabul, Mohammad Yaqoob Rasouli, the director of Kabul International Airport, told. It disappeared from radar screens at 19:25 (1455 GMT) six miles on the radar screen northeast of Kabul airport, Rasouli told.
The tower saw a fire in the same location and we also got telephone confirmation from the area of a crash, he said, adding The plane had eight crew members: six Filipinos, one Indian and one Kenyan. Search operations have already begun.
A spokesman for Afghanistan’s ministry of transport and civil aviation told that all crew on board perished. They are all dead, said the spokesman, Nangyalai Qalatwal.
Gas cylinder injures two brothers in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Two brothers were injured on Hali Road when a gas cylinder exploded in a Rickshaw Spare Part factory, SAMAA reported Wednesday.
The explosion was so powerful that people from the area came out of their houses. The walls of the factory collapsed injuring two brothers, Yousuf and Riaz, seriously.
Both brothers have been taken to Civil Hospital.
Police cordoned off the area soon after the explosion which occurred due to gas pressure, police informed. SAMAA
NATO supply goods stealers apprehended
Five men accused of stealing NATO supply goods have been apprehended by Islamabad police. Police has seized wireless sets, helicopter spare parts, army communication equipment and two vehicles used to supply military weaponry from the suspects.
According to police officials, suspects with the help of drivers of NATO trucks used to steal and sell NATO supply goods in the open market. Suspects, who belong to the area of Landi Kotal, were arrested from the area of Dhok Paracha. Police said suspects have also stolen 6 NATO containers.
SP Sadar, Captain Liaqat Ali told Dunya News that a special team has been constituted to catch the other people linked to this network and to recover the stolen goods. Suspects have been handed over to CID police for further investigation.
