He had the guts to tell his mentor in his face that his script for the remake of Sholay would never work.

Mohit paid heavily for his outspokenness. He was banished not only from Ram Gopal Varma’s production house but also from Bollywood.

Last heard he had walked out of Ghajini because he found his role (of the cop) too inconsequential.

Thereafter, Mohit seemed to disappear from the face of earth. His phone number has changed and apparently he has gone back to his family business in Panipat and Delhi.

But now one sees him part of the ensemble cast in debutant director Akshay Shere’s Emotional Aatyachar.

Mohit and Shere go a back a long way, to their days together in Ram Gopal Varma’s production house. Even Shere seems unaware of Mohit’s whereabouts. But he does let out that Mohit was in hospital lately.

“I think it is for some intestine or stomach problem. Too much work-out has taken its toll on him,” informs the director.

Ironically, the bout of ill health has deprived Mohit of the little bit of attention that his new film would have got him.

Even more ironically, director Mohit Shere says Mohit plays, “A businessman who meets some bizarre people.”

Sounds like Mohit’s own story.

US to help flood-hit Pakistan in weeks ahead: Clinton

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton vowed Wednesday that Washington will help Pakistan, a top ally in the fight against militants, cope with its flood disaster “in the days and weeks ahead.”

Clinton promised sustained American aid as the Pakistani government comes under fire over its handling of the devastation and a group believed to be a front for Islamist militants sent its own relief to flood-hit areas.

The United States has already committed 10 million dollars in aid, US helicopters have rescued hundreds of people and delivered “critical supplies, including hundreds of thousands of halal meals,” the chief US diplomat said.

“We”ve sent over boats to help with search and rescue, water purification units to provide clean water for thousands of people, and temporary bridges to replace bridges damaged by the floods,” she told reporters.

“This represents just the start of our efforts. We will continue to help Pakistan in the days and weeks ahead,” Clinton pledged.

Clinton also urged Americans to make ten-dollar aid contributions by using their cell phones to text the word SWAT to the number 50555.

The funds “will help the UN High Commissioner for Refugees provide tents, clothing, food, clean drinking water and medicine to people displaced by floods,” she said.

The floods have swamped the Swat Valley, a stronghold of the Taliban and its Al-Qaeda allies. Pakistan launched a major offensive in Swat last year to clear it of Taliban and restore government control.

The US aid effort is part of an international relief campaign after the flooding that has claimed the lives of up to 1,500 people and affected 3.2 million, including 1.4 million children, according to UN and Pakistani figures.

Clinton said “helping each other in times of need” is an essential element of the budding US partnership with Pakistan, in which Washington has earmarked 7.5 billion dollars in development aid over five years.

PESHAWAR: Federal Home Minister Abdul Rehman Malik has announced Sitara-e-Shujaat award for martyred chief of FC Siffwat Ghayur, who was killed in a suicide attack in Peshawar yesterday, Geo News reported.

On the occasion, he said Siffwat Ghayur, through laying down his life in combating militancy, has given a new ray of courage to our forces.

Talking to newsmen here at Peshawar airport, Malik said terrorists have now shifted their agenda by targeting senior officers and prominent personalities in order to gain some respect in the eyes of people. “But we will continue taking on terrorists”, he vowed.

Terrorists are paid assassins who cannot demoralize our forces in eradicating their dogma from the face of our country, he maintained.

Vowing to increase the numbers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, Malik accused Taliban of misusing name of Pakhtuns to trigger anarchy in Karachi.

“Taliban are non-state actors who are resorting to label of Pakhtuns for spreading panic in Karachi”, he observed.

Minister also visited the house of Siffwat Ghayur and expressed condolence with family of martyred FC chief and also offered fateha.

Later, Abdul Rehman Malik announced award of plots for children of Siffwat Ghayur from federal government.

KARACHI: General Secretary Pakistan Muslim League-Q Haleem Adil Shaikh Friday vehemently condemned the adoption of resolution against media by the Punjab Assembly.

In a statement, he said media is playing role of an active opposition by representing the poor and downtrodden segments of the society and this, he added, has scared the two ruling parties.

Haleem Adil Shaikh said the recent move has lifted the veil from the face of Pakistan Muslim League-N, which raised vociferous slogans in favour of free media in the past.

“Opposition, as a norm, represents the people but here the N-League has become Team-B of the government.”
