West Indies Fast Bowler Jerome Taylor Arrested
KINGSTON: Jamaica and West Indies cricketer Jerome Taylor has been charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest after a confrontation with officers in a bar in which he had been drinking, police said on Thursday.
Taylor, 25, was released on bond on Thursday following the incident late on Wednesday at Junction, St Elizabeth, a rural town southwest of the Jamaican capital Kingston.
The fast bowler, who returned from the West Indies’ recent Test tour of Australia after suffering back strain, is due in court on Jan. 12. He was also charged with improper conduct.
If convicted of any of the charges, Taylor could be fined or spend up to six months in prison.
Police said Taylor was drinking in the bar late on Wednesday when officers went in to close it after the operator had gone past the legal closing time. Taylor tried to prevent them from closing it and verbally abused them, police said.
Taylor, a native of St Elizabeth, has taken 82 wickets from 29 Test matches for the West Indies.

Iranian Ambassador speaks high about Pakistan-Iran relations
Lahore, Pakistan:- The Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan, Mashaallah Shakri has said that Pakistan enjoys high status culturally in Iranian policy. “The cultures of our two countries are not deniable and there need for a framework for far improved and better cultural relations”, he said while addressing the “Meet the Press” program at Karachi Press Club on Saturday.
He said the present level of relationship between Pakistan and Iran was not unsatisfactory but he was not satisfied with the present level of relation which should have been much more. In this regard he specially referred to Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline agreement and said that this pipeline will reach Pakistani border within a year. Plus, he said, Iran is ready to provide 1000 MW of electricity and is ready to double it. The Ambassador said that Iran does not make hollow promises to meet the energy requirements of Pakistan.
He said that offer made to help Pakistan in power generation would take time to materialise and such power supply would cost 15 cents per unit while electricity supplied to Pakistan will cost only 6 cents and with this Pakistan will have enormous economic gain. Replying a question about recent tragic suicidal attack in Iran, Mr Shakri said that Iran has provided all the evidence, information and documents to Pakistan. The Iranian Ambassador urged the Pakistani media to use its “Qalam” against oppressors and the negative propaganda being carried out against it from the West.
