I would contest next general polls, says Musharraf
Former president General Pervez Musharraf announced that he would surely contest the next general election in Pakistan.
Addressing the first ever meeting of his newly-formed political party – All Pakistan Muslim League in London, Musharraf said that multiple challenges are facing the country as both PPP and PML-N failed to govern the country, and added that he decided to join politics on being forced by people.
He maintained that politics should be above personal interests and added that he would return to the country and would face the circumstances bravely.
The meeting, which was held at Musharrafs London residence, was attended by over 50 people including Barrister Saif and Rashid Qureshi. The meeting also deliberated upon Musharrafs return to Pakistan and other party matters. Musharraf would be leaving for US on May18.

ISLAMABAD Pakistan: Senate unanimously approved ‘Election Rules Amendment Bill 2009,’ eliminating the graduation condition and paving way for people with limited formal education to contest general elections. The graduation condition for contesting elections was introduced in 2002 by the then president General Pervez Musharraf, had badly disappointed the politicians, particularly the major political parties as a large number of their candidates were below graduation rather matriculates.
The bill was passed in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s judgement dated April 21, 2008 in which the apex court had declared as null and void the provision of Article 8A of the conduct of General Election Order, 2002 (Chief Executive Order No 7 of (2002) and clause (cc) of sub-section (1) of section 99 of the Representation of the people Act, 1976 on account of their being inconsistent with Articles 17 and 25 of the Constitution.

WASHINGTON , US: Former president General Pervez Musharraf has said that the US and Pakistan both lost track of al Qaida chief Osama bin Laden five years ago.

Musharraf, who is on a lecture tour of the US currently, told students and delegates at a college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, that both Pakistani and US intelligence have failed to collect any details regarding Laden’s whereabouts, and now they are even unable to ascertain whether he was dead or alive.
Musharraf also said there is a need of a multifaceted strategy to deal with the Taliban effectively.
He said that while the al Qaeda should be eliminated from Pakistan by force, dealing with the Taliban would require a military, political and socio-economic approach.
The former general underlined the fact that the Taliban was a widespread organization with no central command.
“The Taliban is not a monolith, but rather a spread out organization with no single commander who could be removed for the command structure to be destroyed,” he said.

Eight Of A Family Members Killed In Faisalabad
FAISALABAD: Unknown militants have gunned down at least eight persons a family in Kaleem Shaheed Colony here early on Thursday.
Women and children are also among killed persons, witnesses claimed.
Police have ascertained the deaths of eight people in the shooting incident while they have also cordoned off the firing scene and launched investigation, claiming that they have commenced search operation to seize culprits.

Govt Keeping In View The Prevailing Challenges: Kaira
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Wednesday Peoples Party’s stance was very clear in the parliament from the day one that the government wanted political reconciliation keeping in view the prevailing challenges being faced by the country.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had promoted politics of reconciliation in the country.
He said “we cannot move forward in the atmosphere of confrontation and tension”. He said Benazir Bhutto initiated politics of dialogue with other political parties, General Pervez Musharraf and international community for restoration of democracy in the country. The minister said that as a result of this dialogue both Benazir and Nawaz returned home, election was held and an era of prosperity dawned in the country.
He said that when Nawaz Sharif demanded impeachment of Pervez Musharraf it was Asif Ali Zardari who advised him to be patient by taking other political parties into confidence.
The minister said Pervez Musharraf resigned before impeachment and without using force or resorting to violence as PPP believes in slogan of Benazir Bhutto ,” Democracy is the best revenge.”
He said “we should avoid indulging in controversies which harm the interests of the country.”
Replying to a question, he said “PPP is a part of a coalition government both in the center and provinces and they have to consult coalition partners and take them on board.”
The information minister said the prime minister had also stated that all political parties on Article 6 should be consulted for tabling consensus resolution.” If two major political take decision in their own capacity without consulting other political parties it would not be good for the parliament, democracy and political harmony in the country.”
He said their decision would have been different had the Peoples Party been ruling without coalition partners. “We have to take coalition partners on board for strengthening the democratic system,” he said.
Answering a question, he said PML(N) did not need permission from anybody for tabling a resolution in the parliament.
