Ranbir Kapoor represented by KWAN for corporate endorsements

Ranbir Kapoor will be represented by KWAN exclusively in the corporate endorsement space.

Ranbir’s last release Raajneeti has just had the second biggest opening weekend ever. In a short career of just six films so far, Ranbir has balanced commercial blockbusters like Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani, which was the second biggest grosser of last year, with critical favourites like Rocket Singh-Salesman of the Year and Wake Up Sid to become the face of contemporary Indian cinema. Ranbir’s upcoming releases include Siddharth Anand’s Anjaana Anjaani and Anurag Basu’s Silence – both opposite Priyanka Chopra and Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar.

Ranbir and Katrina Are Back Together

MUMBAI: After the super success of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, they have become the hottest onscreen pair in Bollywood today. And now, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are ready for an encore. They will star in Imtiaz Ali’s next, his long-in-the-pipeline project Rock Star.

The film has passed through the hands of many potential rock stars. Imtiaz first offered it to John Abraham. Excited as hell, John had begun to prepare for the part and even started to learn the guitar in 2008.

Then, Imtiaz found an option – Saif Ali Khan seemed perfect for Rock Star because he was almost one in real life. If he played the role, he didn’t even need to start learning the guitar. However, Saif and Imtiaz did Love Aaj Kal instead. During the making of the film, Rishi Kapoor, who also starred in it, was so impressed by Imtiaz that he swore he would make the director work with his son Ranbir.

Says a source, “Imtiaz and Ranbir met many times in the past few months and discussed several projects. But it was Rock Star that Ranbir liked the best.”

We hear Ranbir will be learning to play the guitar for the part as soon as he finishes with Siddharth Anand’s Anjaana Anjaani. Ranbir was heard telling a friend, “Who wouldn’t be excited about playing rock star? It’s a dream role.” To add to the magic, Ranbir’s co-star in Rock Star is Katrina Kaif – a combo every filmmaker in Bollywood wants to get together.

Attempts are on to sign Katrina for the only other film Ranbir has signed for 2010, which is being directed by Anurag Basu. However it’s the Imtiaz Ali project that Katrina has apparently said yes to so far.

And contrary to perception that AR Rahman is doing the music, it’s apparently the tried and tested Pritam

Chakraborty. “After Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, who wants to break the Imtiaz Ali-Pritam team?” wonders a source close to the project. “Ranbir will go all out to prepare for his part as a rock star. He wants to look every inch the part. That includes the sinewy muscled physique and expertise with the guitar strings.”

‘2009′ A Disastrous Year For Bollywood

NEW DELHI : The Hindi film industry never had it so bad. Recession, a producer-multiplex strike, and a string of duds led to one of the worst years for Bollywood. Experts say it suffered a loss of about Rs.700 crore (Rs.7 billion) in 2009.

“2009 has been a disastrous year for the Hindi film industry. We’ve had everything, from swine flu, cricket matches, elections to a strike against the industry this time,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

“And then we had major flops like ‘Chandni Chowk To China’, ‘Aladin’ and ‘Kurbaan’ to name a few. People have lost almost 75-100 percent for a movie. Though the actual losses cannot be accounted, it is huge and more than Rs.500-700 crore,” he added.

Film critic Omar Qureshi echoed the same.

“It has been one of the bad years. Unfortunately, some of the big movies failed this year. Even Diwali, when we release the biggest movies of the year, was such a disappointment with failures in ‘Blue’ and ‘Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna’.”

The year started with not-so-happening movies like “The President Is Coming”, “Bad Luck Govind”, “Kaashh…Mere Hote” – none of them could ignite the box office.

It was followed by massively promoted big budgets like Warner Bros co-production Rs. 51-crore “Chandni Chowk To China”, Shah Rukh Khan’s home production, the Rs.23 crore “Billu”, and UTV’s Rs.45 crore“Delhi 6″ – all of them failed at the ticket window.

So far 120-odd films have released, but hits are few and far between. Movies that made business include low-budget ones like “Raaz - The Mystery Continues”, “Dev D”, “13 B”, “Phoonk”, “New York”, “Wake Up Sid”, “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”.

Big-starrer and big-budget films like “Love Aaj Kal”, “Kaminey”, “Wanted”, “All The Best”, and “De Dana Dan” too clicked at the box office.

Films like “Luck By Chance”, “Firaaq”, “Gulaal” and “Quick Gun Murugun” couldn’t get the cash registers ringing, but received appreciation from audiences and critics alike.

The first few months were spent reeling under recession. Then came another blow in the form of the film producers-distributors’ tussle with multiplexes over revenue sharing. It led to a two-month strike – from April 4 to June 5 – and witnessed a virtual drought of movies. During that period, gap fillers like “Coffee House”, “99″, “Suno Na” and “Detective Naani” were released.

As soon as the strike got over, IPL matches and elections started, leading to low footfalls in theatres.

Bollywood events also took a nose dive in the wake of swine flu which led to the closing of cinema halls temporarily as well as cancellation of shootings.

“The year has been a tough one because of a couple of reasons. First, for three months there were no releases which caused a dent and a lot of movies bunched up that further ate one another’s revenues. Then, because of the abundance of movies, audiences declined,” Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

Adarsh, however, felt “the two main reasons for the industry’s debacle this year have been the remuneration of actors and corporates that acquired movies at exorbitant prices, leading to doomsday.”

“The costing this year was the biggest spoilsport. It was so huge that it ruined the industry. The industry was thrown to the lions because of actors’ fees and it was very difficult for the producers to recover the investments,” he said.

Most big-budget films received tremendous openings courtesy round the clock promotions but fell flat at the box office.

Some of them were “8X10 Tasveer”, “Kal Kissne Dekha”, “Kambakkht Ishq”, “Luck”, “Dil Bole Hadippa”, “What’s Your Raashee?”, “Do Knot Disturb”, “Blue”, “Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna”, “London Dreams”, “Aladin” and “Kurbaan”.

Bollywood now awaits the much-talked about “Three Idiots”, which is releasing Dec 25. Trade pundits hope that the Aamir Khan-starrer repeats the same success story that “Ghajini” created when it was released last year on the same day.

They also suggest some revival strategy in the new year.

Qureshi said: “We must look at reinventing scripts with a good story and a good star cast. You cannot insult the audience now and take them for granted. You have to make intelligent movies. Look at a very intelligent stupid movie ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani’ that worked wonders.”

Said Roy Kapoor, “2010 should be high on creativity and hope the production costs come down and a model is developed that is more effective than it was ever before.”

MUMBAI : With hits like ‘Wake Up Sid’, ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’and ‘Rocket Singh’, Ranbir Kapoor has arrived with a bang as the dashing actor gets catapulted into the league of B-town superstars!

Done with playing the boy-next-door roles, this mushy actor has finally set his eyes on ‘coming of age’ roles and will be leaving his scrawny image for a brawny one. It is believed that the actor is contemplating developing a sinewy physique for upcoming projects. Ranbir wants to go for mature roles and therefore wants to flaunt a well sculpted hot body, much like his contemporaries.

Grapevine has that Siddharth Anand’s ‘Anjana Anjani’ and Imtiaz Ali’snext flick requires a strong image.

Talking to a news daily, a source said, “Both the characters require Ranbirto play a man and not a boy. In all his films so far he has played a boy just stepping into maturity and facing the hardships of life. In ‘Anjana Anjani’he plays a man on the move and must match his physical appearance withPriyanka Chopra who’s chronologically older than Ranbir and therefore automatically perceived to be older than him by the audience.”

As for Imtiaz Ali’s flick, for the first time Ranbir will portray the character of an intense lover.

Of late, the actor is busy pumping iron to build a fantabulous body as Ranbirhimself confirms, “Yes I am beefing up my physique for next year. Change is good, don’t you think?”

Shilpa Shetty to Get Married on November 22, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her millionaire fiance Raj Kundra will get married in a private ceremony in Khandala near here on November 22.
Shilpa has confirmed her wedding date on her blog. The wedding venue will be Shilpa’s friend-cum-business partner Kiran Bawa’s bungalow. The sangeet and mehendi ceremonies prior to the wedding will also take place at the same venue, Shilpa’s spokesperson said here today.The guest list will be restricted to family members and close friends of the couple. The marriage ceremonies will be a mix of Punjabi and South Indian rituals. The wedding will be followed by a reception here on November 24. Designer Tarun Tahiliani is designing the 34-year-old bride’s wedding costume.
The actress got engaged to Kundra late last month at his Juhu residence. Even though Kundra is an NRI settled in London, he has purchased a house in Juhu and the couple plan to live here after marriage.

The Salman-Aamir comic capers may not have stormed the box office in the 1990s, but today, she has dedicated fans who do not miss it in countless TV re-runs. Ajab Prem … have to suffer the same fate and can kick some fun moments in the here and now, more than in the future.

And why not! Because not only Ranbir and Katrina, the rest of the cast is way too crunchy. Of course, the brat is the ninth head of the drop of Ranbir Prem, Happy club president who hangs out with all the losers in the city, call a Fawwari a Ferrari and kidnaps young girls to be sent packing their boyfriends, for life. He falls in love with Jenny (Katrina Kaif), the prettiest town rookie, he’s smart, sassy, orphaned and in need of a friend. And yes, it is a vegetarian with a penchant for puddings ki chutney to pakodas moong dal. But that is a true home of our hero takes time to learn, along with another fact of life that makes it difficult for him to cross the fine line between best friend and boyfriend. But Ranbir-Katrina Dosti gets its flavor from the other characters too. Como, Ranbir-loving mother (Smita dad Jayko-Darshan Zariwala) who love him anyway and the local gift Sajid (Zakir Hussain) who does not have a functional cell phone, or a loaded gun. All you have is hot air. The plot moves like a jolly ride in the territory of fantasy as Ranbir comes to bringing the love story of Katrina to a logical end. Of course, he manages to succeed, despite its awkward shape and ends stealing the show with his crazy antics, their clever phrases and some comic sense of timing. Katrina matches him step by step, creating the perfect tango has only a few minutes of boredom: clumsy half late and a climax where most of the jokes have been there felt.

But that’s just a minor irritant. For some of the scenes to give all your landscaping Vasool entertainment. View Ranbir Katrina companion to a dance party with a permanent waltz in its path and a silly grin on his lips or see Don baby pink blouse to save his skin and perform a monologue with Jesus is fun unlimited. Add to upbeat music score with this Pritam Neeraj Shridhar, Atif Aslam, Hard Kaur, Sunidhi Chauhan and Mika raise a toast to the happy song and dance and Raj Kumar Santoshi writing some of the funniest dialogue in recent times and has a great escape awaiting you at your favorite Audi this weekend. Go, have a ball.
