6381bc1ef82083 l Clinton Regrets Extending Support To Dictatorship ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday admitted that the United States had made a mistake in past to support the dictators but in the same breath she assured that this mistake would not be repeated in future.

“The US secretary of state in her meeting with parliamentarians acknowledged that the United States had made a mistake in the past to lend its support to successive dictators and assured that in future no relation would be established with individuals but with the state and people of Pakistan,” said Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza while talking to a group of journalists at her Chamber at the Parliament House.

Earlier, Hillary Clinton held an interactive meeting with Farooq H Naek, Chairman Senate, Dr Fehmida Mirza and parliamentarians of all shades of opinion at the Parliament House. Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Opposition Leader in the Senate Wasim Sajjad, parliamentary leaders of all the political parties, including Faisal Saleh Hayat of the PML-Q, Jehangir Tarin of the PML-F, Farooq Sattar of the MQM, Senator Haji Adeel of the ANP, Aftab Sherpao (PPP-S), Senator Abdul Rahim Mandokhel of the PKMAP, Senator Ishaq Dar and women parliamentarians, including Kashmala Tariq of the PML(LM), Fauzia Wahab and Sherry Rehman also attended the meeting.

In three hours interaction with Hillary Clinton, all the parliamentarians voiced their concern over continued drone attacks in the tribal areas and the presence of Blackwater in Pakistan.

However, one dissenting voice in support by a senator from Balochistan was also echoed in the meeting. “Yes, few parliamentarians supported the drone attacks,” said the speaker.

The sources said while replying to Sherry Rehman’s question on the presence of private security guards, Clinton promised that they should abide the law of land and assured that she would take up this issue.

The speaker said the meeting was held with open mind in which the members expressed their concern over the trade deficit between the US and Pakistan and asked the US secretary of State to move ahead to remove the existing trust deficit.

“The parliamentarians were of the view that the United State should have to take the steps to remove the trust deficit,” she added. She said the parliamentarians also raised their concern over the US past practice of not fulfilling its pledges and promises and told her that if the Washington wanted to bridge the gap of trust deficit then it should realise the pledges and fulfill its promises with the people of Pakistan.

Clinton told them, Fehmida said, the Obama administration had reviewed the past policies of the US and now decided to interact with the people of Pakistan and parliamentarians for which a mechanism was being devised.

The speaker said about continued drone attacks, Clinton told the parliamentarians that the opinion in Pakistan was divided over this issue as there were people who described the drone attacks as a positive step.

About the Kerry Lugar Law, the speaker said the US secretary of State was of the view that the United States wanted to help the democracy in Pakistan and the aid was also being provided under the KLL for this purpose. However, the speaker said Hillary Clinton assured the parliamentarians that on her return to Washington, she would convey their reservations regarding the conditionalities in the KLL to the US administration.

The speaker said Hillary Clinton appreciated the sacrifices of the Pakistan armed forces in the war against terror. She said the United States would provide the assistance for the training of parliamentarians and staff of the Parliament House.

Answering another question, she said the parliamentarians called for writing off Pakistan’s loan as an old ally and Hillary Clinton assured that she would take up this issue with the US treasury. However, the US secretary of State said that there would be conditionalities if the loans were written off, the speaker said

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has rejected the government’s offer of allotment of a residential plot worth Rs30 million in Islamabad, it is learnt. GM Sikandar, former housing and works secretary and presently member of the federal services tribunal, told media on Friday that in line with the government’s policy the housing ministry had issued an offer letter to the chief justice of Pakistan for the allotment of a 600 sq yard residential plot in I-8 Sector of Islamabad on August 10 this year but the same day the government had to cancel the allotment after Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry refused to accept it. 479334641d2089 l CJP Refuses Plot In Capital’s Posh Area ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has rejected the government’s offer of allotment of a residential plot worth Rs30 million in Islamabad, it is learnt.

The housing ministry that had taken the initiative apparently to please the chief justice was given a dressing down and had to undo everything within hours. Sikandar confirmed that the ministry had also sought the list of other Supreme Court (SC) judges, who were to be provided the second residential plot in Islamabad in line with the official policy.

By surrendering his right protected under the stated government policy, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry seems to have subtly rejected the plot politics of Pakistan, which enables a select few influential groups to get the lion’s share in state resources, leaving nothing for the poor and the needy.

Interestingly it was soon after the November 3, 2007 PCO of General Musharraf that the then ruling junta made the new policy whereby the judges of the Supreme Court were entitled to get two residential plots in Islamabad as was allowed to the federal secretaries and BS-22 officers of the federal government.

The immediate beneficiaries of the policy were all the five judges of the Supreme Court, who had taken oath under the PCO including Justice (retd) Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice (retd) Nawaz Abbasi, Justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, Justice (retd) Javed Buttar and Justice (retd) Saeed Ashad. All these PCO judges were given additional residential plots within a few weeks of the November 3 episode.

Sources in the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) said that these PCO judges were even taken to D-12 sector to select the plots of their choice for their services to the dictator of the day.

A few weeks before November 3, 2007 the then Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo moto notice of the government’s decision to allot two residential plots to federal secretaries in Islamabad.

While issuing notices to all concerned, Justice Iftikhar had questioned how the government could distribute the state land to a select group like sweets. But before he could decide the case, Musharraf imposed his unconstitutional PCO following which the PCO judges took no time to dismiss the suo moto notice. Consequently, they too got the additional plots..

Ghost Adventures Live,Ghost Adventures Live Show:Security was tight at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Friday, where Ghost Adventures kicked off its first seven-hour live event. The excitement was high both inside, where the Ghost Adventures crew looked for paranormal proof, and outside, where the believers could not wait to see what they found.

Curious on-lookers started gathering at the hospital while preparations were still being finalized. The thrill of the Halloween Eve show began Thursday night for the crew, right after rehearsal.

“The guys got on a live chat …and we had record numbers of people show up with minimal promotion for the chat,” said Travel Channel Executive Producer Charlie Parsons, “But we blew away the records on our live chats, and I think that’s a good harbringer for tonight.”

Fans of the show of the hospital were easily as excited for Zak, Nick, and Aaron to search for ghosts.

“Every chance I get I try to come down and help out with anything that’s going on, try to volunteer,” said Dawn Ferrebee, who drove in from Salem. “Plus, I love the Ghost Adventures.”

“Listen, honest to God, we watch these guys every week when they’re on,” said Chuck Rogan from Lumberport. “They’re fantastic.”

A few brought their own proof the hospital is haunted.

“It looks to be like two male doctors in a window a long time ago,” explained Kay Beane, who took the pictures.

Fans got a surprise when the crew came to get advice on where they should look.

“The tunnels,” said Beane. “They have places down there where they used to chain the patients.”

“I found that I’ve heard a lot of stories from the from the 4th floor,” claimed Ferrebee. “I hear it’s pretty active.”

Ghost Adventures Live runs until 3 a.m. Saturday morning. If you would like to see what is going on inside the hospital, click on the link below.

Kathy Gloddy,Michael Oher Football Player:The ABC News magazine 20/20 will bring national eyes to the November 1971 unsolved murder of Kathy Lynn Gloddy, the 13-year-old girl who was beaten, raped, hit over the head, and run over by a car at least four times and left on a logging road.

Kathy Lynn’s family
has never given up the hope that those responsible for the brutal murder of their youngest sister would be brought to justice.

“We are excited that 20/20 has chosen to take on Kathy’s case,” remarked Janet Gloddy Young, one of Kathy’s three sisters. “We are hoping through continued media exposure and through the creation of the Kathy Lynn Gloddy Reward Fund we will be able to find some answers and peace for our family.

07fbaac768gloddy Kathy Gloddy,Michael Oher Football PlayerNews crews spent some time in Franklin filming the area off Webster Road where Kathy Lynn’s body was found and taping the candlelight and daisy vigil family and friends held for Kathy Lynn this past summer.

In addition, retired Massachusetts Police Chief and Detective Thomas Shamshak has been helping the family not only with their search for justice but with their efforts to create and fund the first-ever cold-case unit in the state.

After the Gloddy sisters spent months testifying in both the state Senate and the N.H. House of Representatives, Gov. John D. Lynch signed the New Hampshire Cold Case unit into law in the Governor and Council’s room with the family invited as special guests.

The murder investigation has taken a number of twists and turns recently, most notably when elderly Florida resident Ernest Dukette went into a police department and said he believed he was with Kathy Lynn when she died but could not remember if he had raped her.

Although Dukette later recanted his statements, saying he was ill and confused from various medications he was taking, New Hampshire authorities reopened the case and exhumed Kathy Lynn’s body in hopes modern DNA mapping techniques could be used to either confirm or deny his statements.

Dukette died
in August at Old Town, Fla., and never spoke another public word about Kathy Lynn and what he may have known about her murder.

Kathy Lynn’s brother
, Roger, now living in Colorado, has said Dukette had a reputation for drinking and being rough with women.

While Dukette took his secrets to the grave with him, Senior Assistant State Attorney Will Delker said the case would continue to be open and his investigators had reason to believe that more than one person was involved in Kathy Lynn’s murder.

The last night of Kathy Lynn’s life, the young athlete, poet, and conservationist took her German Shepherd out for a walk and stopped by a variety store for ice cream and a can of potato sticks — her favorites. She never made it back to her home. more info

Travel Channel,Ghost Adventures Live:News Corp and Scripps Networks Interactive are lead bidders for Cox Enterprise’s Travel Channel, and talks are now focused on the winner forming a joint venture with Cox, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The winning party would contribute cable networks and cash, and own roughly 65 percent of the new company, while Cox would contribute Travel Channel and hold a minority stake, the sources said. The majority stake has not been finalized and is still being discussed, one of the sources said.

The joint venture is currently being valued at above $900 million, but that valuation is “a bit complex and is still being worked out,” one of the sources said. The new company would take on debt to pay Cox a cash dividend, the sources said.

All sources spoke on condition of anonymity because the details are not public.

Travel Channel is known for programs such as “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations,” in which author and chef Bourdain travels the world to showcase local cuisines; and “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern,” in which the food columnist tries unusual delicacies such as lamb eyeballs and squirrel brains.

If News Corp wins, it will likely contribute the National Geographic Channel, that person said. It was unclear which cable assets Scripps Networks would contribute if it won the auction, but it owns a variety of “fine-living” genre channels such as the HGTV, Do It Yourself and Food Network.

News Corp declined comment while Cox and Scripps Networks were not immediately available.

A joint venture would help Cox avoid the big tax bill it inherited as part of a 2007 deal to swap its 25 percent stake in Discovery Communications Inc, the sources said. It received the Travel Channel and $1.275 billion of cash for that stake.

PRIVATE EQUITY UNLIKELY

Private equity firms Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, Thomas H. Lee Partners and Providence Equity had also submitted bids for Travel Channel, which sources said ranged between $700 million and $800 million.

Initial expectations for the Travel Channel ranged from $600 million to $700 million. With current discussions including other cable assets in a joint venture, the valuation of an independent Travel Channel was unclear.Reuters
