Arbor Day was first celebrated back in 1872. Prizes were given to those who planted the most trees on that day. More than one million trees were planted on the first Arbor Day in Nebraska, but the it didn’t officially become known as “Arbor Day” until 1874.
Arbor day was created in honor of pioneer J. Sterling Morton from Detroit, who moved with his wife to Nebraska and quickly planted trees, shrubs and flowers upon their arrival.
Morton later became editor of a big newspaper in Nebraska, which he used as a forum to spread enthusiasm for trees and nature. It was Morton who first proposed the tree-planting holiday back in 1872.

Well, we off to the Kentucky Oaks this morning….maybe hoping to see some celebs but mainly just have a great time! I decided not to wear my Amy Butler dress but just some black slacks….boring, I know! But looking at my legs they look horrible, so I decided against it. I will still have to show some photos of the dress on here though! Have a great Friday!
