Rajinikanth turns 60

MUMBAI: The Indian nation’s biggest screen idol Rajinikanth celebrates his 60th birthday today.

The megastar who usually prefers to celebrate this day out of town, has decided to spend the day with his family after many years.

2010 has been a really good year for the icon, both career and family wise. While Enthiran has gone on to become the biggest commercial hit ever, on the personal front two new additions to his family have kept Rajini busy.

The actor”s daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth got married to Ashwin, and keeping the new son-in-law entertained alongwith the baby grandson, Linga (Aishwarya Rajinikanth and Dhanush’s son) seems like a nice way to celebrate his birthday.

So it”s no surprise that despite millions of religious fans lining up for special poojas and welfare activities for their favourite idol, Rajini prefers to keep it within the family this year. Happy Birthday, Rajinikanth!

A source close to the director has quoted, “Shawn hasn’t taken a sabbatical after Hide & Seek. At the moment, he is busy with his writers planning two

big films. Probability is that one of the films might go on floor by next year.”
We tried to contact the director and surprisingly he didn’t deny the news. Shawn quotes, “Yes, I am highly busy scripting my two films right now and both the

films will be starring Bollywood’s biggest names. That’s all I can say.”

Special show reel on Big B’s life and epic films to be shown before KBC 4

At a celebration party at the Marriott on Monday evening, the Big B would be cutting a 68-kilo cake, 1 kilo for each year of his life.

While the world sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to the Big B, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan sing together for the first time in a song composed by the Big B himself! Find that hard to believe? But it’s the truth.

The Big B is a huge aficionado of music and singing. He in fact intends to learn to play the piano soon. But for now he has turned composer for a song that has been sung by the Big B and Abhishek Bachchan.

The song would be part of a comprehensive bio-documentary showcasing the 68-year life-span of Amitabh Bachchan which will be telecast on his birthday on Monday. The Big B has not only taken active and complete interest in the material going into the audio-visual show reel–going so far as to provide never-before pictures, advising on the footage to be used and making suggestions on chronological data relating to his life story– the mega-star has also taken time off from his cluttered schedule to compose the theme song.

While the Big B himself is characteristically dismissive of what could be seen as his first decisive step into direction and filmmaking, Ajit Thakur CEO of Sony Entertainment, the channel which will be telecasting the historic bio-documentary sheds startling light on the project. “Mr. Bachchan has indeed composed a song for the show reel and also sung for it along with Abhishek and composers Vishal-Shekhar.”

The show reel introducing the new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati has virgin footage and rare pictures of the Big B beginning with his birth in 1942 to present-day.

Informs a source from the channel, “The show reel contains never-before pictures episodes, incidents, scenes and dialogues from Mr. Bachchan’s life and films. For instance he will be reciting a poem by his father poet Harivanshrai Bachchan that he has never recited publicly before. There will be pictures of the Big B and his family that have been brought out into the open for the first time.”

In fact the Big B has personally supervised every aspect of the showreel, lent pictures and footage from his own private library, selected the footage that has grown into the show reel, and zeroed-in on the relevant sequences from his films which he has re-enacted for the first time.

Says the source, “Some of the most famous sequences and dialogues such as the temple scene in Yash Chopra’s Deewaar from Mr. Bachchan’s films have been handpicked by him and re-enacted specially for this show reel on specially erected sets representing the original.”

And in the inaugural episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the first contestant from a small village will be told that the optimum prize money is not Rs. 1 crore but 5 crores.

The surprise on the contestant’s face is the Big B’s biggest birthday gift.

Lata Mangeshkar turns 81

MUMBAI: The Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar turned 81 on Tuesday. The renowned playback singer grows younger with her voice even as she gets older.

Popularly known as ‘Lata di’, she started her singing career in 1942. Till now she lent her voice to over one thousand Bollywood movies.

Lata di sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages. He exceptional voice quality and singing caliber took her to ‘Gunnies Books Of World Record’ for maximum recording in the world during 1974-1991.

She bagged several awards during her singing career, which includes Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989), Maharashtra Bhushan Award (1997), NTR National Award (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001) and three National Film Awards.

Katrina gets the biggest birthday surprise ever

For her birthday this week Katrina Kaif, got a surprise she would never forget. While Katrina was shooting with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol at the Running Of The Bulls festival in the crowded streets of Pamplona in Spain, director Zoya Akhtar shouted in the dictaphone for the shooting to be halted.

Suddenly the noisy festive bustle went quiet and Zoya announced it was Katrina’s birthday. Everyone was ordered to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Katrina.

Recalling the emotional moment with great pleasure Katrina says, “Suddenly there were 500 people Spanish, Indian and every nationality you can imagine, on this main street of Pamplona singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me. It was an awesome moment and the best birthday gift I’ve ever had. It was very considerate of Zoya to arrange this surprise for me.”

The whole cast was shooting together in Spain for Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara by participating in one of Spain’s biggest festive events, the Encierro, or Running Of The Bulls festival.

Nicki Minaj on 106 And Park, Happy birthday to Nicki Minaj! The rapper appeared on the BET television show “106 and Park” today, where she was presented with a birthday cake one day early. Wearing a long blonde wig and some seriously shiny fuschia leggings, she was all smiles while getting the birthday treatment.

Happy birthday After the audience sang a chorus of “Happy Birthday,” Nicki expressed her gratitude for the baby pink cake, saying, “Thank you guys for having us!” She went on to promote her movement Young Money, the group of young rappers formed by Lil Wayne. “We just want to say how much we love Wayne and how much we love you guys for supporting us.”

The new Young Money album is out December 21st, so Nicki encouraged fans to pick up the “classic” album.
