Johnson axed from Australian Ashes team

ADELAIDE: Paceman Mitchell Johnson has been dropped from the Australian team for Friday’s second Ashes Test against England at the Adelaide Oval.
Australian captain Ricky Ponting said on Thursday a final eleven would be decided before the start of play, but confirmed Johnson had been omitted from the 12-man squad.
Fast bowlers Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris, who were added to the squad after last Monday’s drawn Gabba Test, are vying for places in the team.
Australia – Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Simon Katich, Shane Watson, Mike Hussey, Marcus North, Brad Haddin, Xavier Doherty, Doug Bollinger, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus. (12th man to be named). AGENCIES
Australia beat England in 4th ODI
LONDON: England recorded their best run of eight consecutive one-day victories leading up to today”s London encounter, but Australia found their A-game to gain some revenge with a comprehensive 78-run defeat. Their mammoth 290 for 5 was set up by an aggressive Ricky Ponting and a fluent Michael Clarke, while Ryan Harris took 5 for 32 to thwart a reply led by Michael Yardy”s first international fifty.
By the time Yardy, a useful middle-order accumulator for Sussex, dug in with a 63-ball 57, England had wilted to 90 for 4. Andrew Strauss, dropped off Shaun Tait”s second ball, flayed some cracking cuts in his steady 37 before falling to another sharp burst from the towering pacer. Before that, though, Ryan Harris had castled Craig Kieswetter with an in-cutter to end a 37-run stand, and then trapped Kevin Pietersen after he had struck two handsome fours off Doug Bollinger.
Tait romped back for a superb second spell that yielded two maidens and the scalp of Strauss, while Paul Collingwood was a bit unfortunate when an outside-leg-pitched Steven Smith delivery gave the leggie his first scalp. Eoin Morgan, typically enterprising and bold, allied to add 50 with Yardy, who then shared 48 with Tim Bresnan.
Morgan (47) hit three sixes, one of them plowed off successive deliveries into the midwicket crowd, but Harris returned to find his edge to Tim Paine before Smith (2 for 59) drifted one around Luke Wright”s pads to bowl him (151 for 6). Yardy and Bresnan then chivvied the equation to 93 in ten overs, but after seeing the left-hander to his fifty, Bresnan holed out to long-on off Harris. Bollinger and Harris wiped off the innings to complete a professional thrashing and avoid a whitewash.
The victory, though, had been set up by a fine alliance between Ponting and Clarke. Ponting may be a bit older and slower, but retains his bristling aggression, while Clarke, after months of having his one-day spot questioned, showed his capabilities as a fluent stroke-player and finished a run shy of a century. Paine in particular had been pained in an opening partnership of 33 in 55 when Bresnan grabbed his first wicket of the series, and despite Shane Watson”s clean thrashing (41, five fours and a six) over cover and down the ground, it wasn”t till Ponting and Clarke laid a platfrorm that Australia really dominated proceedings.
Watson slog-swept to his downfall (73 for 2) but Ponting”s strengths had been fed as he clipped and cut his way into form, and Clarke–dropped early off Graeme Swann–then drove two boundaries off the culprit, James Anderson. Not much effort was required for the rate to skip at a run a ball through the middle overs, with intelligent running and sharp placement from the pair, who shared 155 before Ponting, opting for the third Powerplay, found Strauss at cover straight away.
Cameron White (17) put on 35 with Clarke, but the icing on the cake was a peach of a cameo from Steven Smith, who bunted four fours in an 8-ball cameo to take the total skimming to 290. It was a stout performance to end England”s flurry of victories, and an ample reminder of just how competitive this Australian side can be at their best.
Two matches in T20 WC today
BARBADOS: Two matches would be played today in Twenty20 World Cup; first one to be played between top favourite Australia and Bangladesh and second between South Africa and minnows Afghanistan.
Australia are looking to line up an all-pace attack to crush Bangladesh on a bouncy Kensington Oval wicket here in their second league match of the World Twenty20 Wednesday.
Australia outclassed Pakistan in their first match and are keen to pick an extra pacer in Ryan Harris at the cost of a slow bowler on a track they feel will assist pace and bounce unlike the slow surfaces at St Lucia and Guyana.
Australian coach Tim Nielsen said Harris, who has replaced an injured Brett Lee in the squad, could join speedsters Dirk Nannes, Shaun Tait, Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson.
“I don”t think there”s a risk in doing it (playing Harris),” Nielsen said.
“The conditions in Barbados will suit our quicks, so I hope they (Bangaldesh) have been practising against fast bowling.”
Nielsen said they would like to try out their bench strength before the important Super Eight matches.
“We have played in St Lucia, we”re in Barbados for a couple of games and then hopefully back in St Lucia for the semi-finals and then back in Barbados for the final.
“We had to think about those things initially. All the players are preparing well enough that even the four guys that didn”t play in the first game could slot in quite easily and fulfil the role they were selected for,” Nielsen was quoted as saying in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons, however, feels Australia would commit a mistake if they play an extra pacer.
“We”ve played practice matches here. There”s nothing lightning quick about it.”
“They can talk it up as much as they like. It will be quicker than most other wickets, definitely quicker than St Lucia. But it”s also spinning and that will suit us,” said Siddons.
If Harris is included, then their leg-spinning all-rounder Steven Smith may have to go out.
For Bangladesh to qualify to the Super Eight stage, they will have to beat Australia by a big margin. Bangladesh gave a good fight to Pakistan after being set to chase 171 runs but fell short by 21 runs.
As for Australia, it would be important for them to keep the momentum going after getting off to a good start with a 34-run win over defending champions Pakistan.
“We have got a good squad and the important thing would be to adapt to conditions. The players have done well in format in the last couple of months and we are motivated to perform better in Twenty20 cricket,” Clarke said.
Nielsen said they are not taking Bangladesh lightly as they have the potential to wreck their ship.
“We”re aware that Bangladesh probably could have won their game against Pakistan. They got to a situation where they needed 50 runs off five overs and a lot of teams have done that before.”
On the other hand, defeats against India have put Afghanistan and South Africa in sudden-death mode going into their floodlit clash in Barbados on Wednesday. Left to rue lapses in the field and a delayed surge with wickets in hand in St Lucia, South Africa now have an opportunity to set things right with a clinical performance and progress into the Super Eights.
The conditions in Bridgetown, generally supportive of fast bowling, should encourage their seam-strong attack against an opposition whose weakness against the short ball was exposed by Ashish Nehra. Afghanistan impressed in small doses, but with just two batsmen reaching double-figures in a score of 115 they had little to fight for against the Indian batting line-up.
Afghanistan”s struggles off the field, and their success against the odds on it, have contributed to a general eagerness among cricket fans to see them do well. In a tougher scenario, against a determined South Africa in a must-win game, they have another chance to win hearts, and they would want to do that with a more collective effort.

Captain Phil Harris Death
Captain Phil Harris Death, Meet Jake Harris, he is Deadliest Catch’s Phil Harris’ son. Following his father’s death earlier this month, he is allegedly being charged with a DUI. Find out more incriminating details and see photos and a video here.

Not only is Jake Harris reportedly accused of a hit-and-run, but has also allegedly been arrested on charges including drunk driving in Washington state, all apparently taking place on Thursday night around 9 p.m.
As a biography, not much is known about Jacob “Jake” Harris. His is 24 years old. He is most-known as one of two sons to Captain Phil Harris from the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch”. Jake and his brother Joshua (Josh) served on the fishing vessel called, “Cornelia Marie” as deckhands.
According to reports, Deadliest Catch’s Phil Harris’ son was reportedly accused of a hit-and-run accident and fled the scene traveling northbound on Interstate 5. It is said that he seemed to be impaired following the stop at the exit of Mercer Street, close to Downtown Seattle.
Futhermore, Dan McDonald, a spokesperson for the Washington State patrol said that the BMW 3 Series he was driving happened to be registered to his late father that which he was seen driving “erratically”. In addition, he was driving with a suspended license. So Jake was taken into custody on misdemeanor charges including: Hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, and suspicion of DUI.
In the event leading up to the arrest, McDonald stated that Harris “failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a toxicological test … After further investigation, it was found that he was involved in a hit and run with another occupied vehicle earlier in the evening. He had rear-ended another car.”
It is said that he was booked at a nearby jail and held on $2000 bail.
On the death of Captain Phil Harris, executive producer Thom Beers said that the Discovery Channel will air a “Deadliest Catch” marathon on Sunday. He also shared this about the loss of Cornelia Marie’s captain and the future of the show:
