Daniel Radcliffe thinks ‘Harry Potter’ deserved more Oscar nominations

TrendPK.com: ‘Harry Potter’ wrapped up its franchise this last year, but only received three Oscar nominations which Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t agree with at all.
Radcliffe revealed recently that he is bothered by the film only receiving the three nominations in technical categories, states UsMagazine.com. “I don’t think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids’ films, unless they’re directed by Martin Scorsese. I was watching ‘Hugo’ the other day and going, ‘Why is this nominated and we’re not?’ I was slightly miffed,” Radcliffe revealed.
And while he can deal with it, he thinks the film isn’t getting proper recognition: “It’s kind of disheartening. I never thought I’d care. But it would’ve been nice to have some recognition, just for the hours put in.”

LOS ANGELES: “Hugo,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″ and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” have won the top prizes from the Art Directors Guild, which handed out its annual awards for film and television work on Saturday night.
The ADG separates its movie awards into three categories — Period Film, Fantasy Film and Contemporary Film — which allows it to salute a broad range of movies, only a few of which are Oscar contenders.
“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” won for contemporary film, “Hugo” for period film and “Harry Potter” for fantasy film.
Even with 15 nominations spread out over the three categories, the ADG overlapped with the Academy’s nominees only in three films: “Hugo,” “Harry Potter” and “The Artist.” The other two Oscar nominees, “Midnight in Paris” and “War Horse,” were not in the running at the ADG Awards.
The “Harry Potter” series received an additional salute in the form of the Cinematic Imagery Award, which was presented to the films’ creative team by actor Gary Oldman.
Television awards went to “Boardwalk Empire,” “Mildred Pierce,” “Modern Family,” “Saturday Night Live” and last year’s Academy Awards show.
The awards took place at the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, and were hosted by Paula Poundstone. Presenters and performers included James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller from “The Artist,” Ed Asner and Ben Vereen.

Harry Potter wins big at Teen Choice Awards

TrendPK.com: Another Teen Choice Awards show, another big night for the “Twilight” franchise.
“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” took home four surfboards last night, including Choice Vampire for Robert Pattinson and Choice Movie Actor Sci-Fi/Fantasy for Taylor Lautner.
While Kristen Stewart didn’t grab a trophy on the evening, “Twilight” co-stars Kellan Lutz (Choice Movie Male Scene Stealer) and Ashley Greene (Choice Movie Female Scene Stealer) earned surfboards for their work on the “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” film.
“Twilight” has two last shots at grabbing trophies for the Teen Choice Awards, as “Breaking Dawn” will be broken into two separate films. That’s plenty of waves the “Twilight” stars can ride with all of those surfboards they are bringing home.
Emma Watson teases “Harry Potter” at MTV Movie Awards

TrendPK.com: Emma Watson appeared on stage at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards last night and thanks “Harry Potter” fans for their years of support.
Then she expressed her appreciation and gratitude by showing them an exclusive clip from the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
The clip, essentially, shows Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) meeting Lod Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) in the Forbidden Forest for their monumental face off. Then that scene bled into footage we’ve already seen in the final “Hallows” trailer. We have a brief look at it below.
Watson and the clip received tremendous applause, though “Potter” still took a backseat to “Twilight” during Sunday night’s telecast.
Daniel Radcliffe’s New York Property Empire Grows

Daniel Radcliffe is wasting no time and is expanding his property portfolio whilst staying in New York. He has now purchased his third property in Manhattan for $5.65million. He is currently Britain’s wealthiest young star, his net worth is a mere 45.6million pounds since completing a decade of work on The Harry Potter films.
Radcliffe is currently in New York starring in the Broadway musical comedy “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”.
Daniel Radcliffe is proving himself to be a wise young man when it comes to investing his earnings. He’s making a difficult transition in his career now and he is said to be determined to pull it off. He has starred in one of the biggest movie franchises so far and not just that, but as a child. Many child actors have failed to continue their success and fame into adulthood. So far 21 year old Radcliffe is making some smart choices both artistically and financially.
J.K. Rowling plagiarism lawsuit dismissed in U.S. courts
Last October, a judge allowed a plagiarism lawsuit levied against “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling to proceed in court. But that case will only go so far.

This morning, Judge Shira Sheindlin dismissed the case in U.S. courts, writing, “The contrast between the total concept and feel of the works is so stark that any serious comparison of the two strains credulity.”
She was referring to comparisons made between Rowling’s fourth “Potter” story, “The Goblet of Fire,” and British author Adrian Jacobs’ book “The Adventures of Willy the Wizard.” At the time, PR reps for Jacobs’ estate said it would be a “billion-dollar case,” according to The Guardian. Now it won’t be a case at all.
“The court’s swift dismissal supports our position that the case was completely without merit and that comparing Willy the Wizard to the Harry Potter series was absurd,” said a spokesperson for Rowling’s American publisher, Scholastic.
Emma Watson beats Kristen Stewart on Forbes’ “Couples” list
On-screen couples appeared to be a thing of the past. Where Hollywood used to flock to see every Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn collaboration, those pairings are few and far between in the modern age of single-serving celebrities.

Which makes this list from Forbes Magazine all the more interesting. The editors decided to rank the “Top Grossing On-Screen Couples,” using as a criteria that the actors “had appeared on screen together more than once in the last 10 years.”
So who topped the list? Sorry, “Twi-hards,” but it was “Harry Potter” starlets Rupert Grint and Emma Watson who were named No. 1 on the chart. As Forbes pointed out, the duo’s contributions to the “Potter” franchise have helped the series earn “a whopping $6.3 billion so far,” and is on track to pass $7 billion when part two of “The Deathly Hallows” arrives this summer.
Next on the list were Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler for their work in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” films. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley landed in the No. 3 slot for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. They might have moved even higher had they stuck around for the fourth “Pirates,” due in theaters this summer.
So where are Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, power-couple extraordinaire of the beloved “Twilight” series? They’d be at No. 5, right behind “Titanic” twosome Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

LOS ANGELES: The new Harry Potter movie has broken box office records around the world, taking some 330 million dollars globally in one of the biggest weekends of all time, its makers and estimates said Sunday.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One” made 125.1 million dollars in the United States and scored Britain’s biggest ever opening weekend with 28 million dollars, said Warner Brothers, the studio behind the franchise.
In Australia the movie made 15 million dollars while it earned 12 million in Russia — both the highest opening weekends of the Potter series, which will climax with the Part II of “Deathly Hallows” next year.
“This is truly a motion picture phenomenon, and it is just the beginning for the penultimate release of the franchise,” said Dan Fellman, head of US distribution.
