Religious leaders bitterly criticizes govt

KARACHI: The religious leaders of different sects have bitterly criticized the government on Monday after the explosion at the shrine of Sufi saint, Hazrat Baba Fareed Shakr Ganj, where eight people martyred and 14 others wounded.

The chairman of Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman termed the explosion as the failure of the present government. While talking to SAMAA, he said that the terrorists have penetrated throughout the country, adding that the government has not provided proper security to the people. “It seems that people of a particular belief are attacking shrines for their vested interests.”

City officials in Gainesville, Florida, have denied a burning permit to a local church that wants to burn copies of the Quran on the upcoming anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks.Gainesville officials say book burnings like the one planned by the Dove World Outreach Center are prohibited under the city’s burning ordinance. Interim Fire Chief Gene Prince further warned Wednesday that the church would face a fine if it went ahead with the burnings.The Dove World Outreach Center had announced the planned Quran burning last month on Facebook and urged other religious groups to join in remembrance of the fallen victims of 9/11 and to stand against the evil of Islam.We only did it because we felt there needed to be an outcry against Islam, because Islam is presenting itself as a religion of peace, explained Senior Dove World Pastor Terry Jones.Despite the warning from officials, Jones, who has written a book called Islam is of the Devil, sent out an e-mail saying the church would still burn Qurans.The Quran burning has been condemned by a number of Muslim and Christian groups.

PML-N workers and activists staged a protest in Mardan against the plane of Floridas insane priest Terry Jones from burning (God forbids) the Holy Quran on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attack and demanded death sentence for the fanatic.
The Protesters shouted slogans of America murdabad, and blocked the traffic. Minister Abdul Subhan Khan led the rally and declared crazy so-called priests plan as highly criminal act, saying that it would hurt the sentiments of Muslim Ummah. The protesters demanded ending of all diplomatic ties with the US and calling of UN and OIC meeting.

Gilani appreciates joint collaboration in relief activities

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday appreciated the opposition and civil society and federal and provincial governments for making concerted efforts to provide relief and raise donations for the flood victims.
Talking to Hamid Yar Hiraj, MNA who called on him at the PM House, Gilani said the government would continue its efforts till rehabilitation of all flood-affected people.
Hamid Yar Hiraj, MNA thanked the Prime Minister for his reconciliatory political approach and keen interest in relief and rehabilitation of flood victims. He also discussed development schemes of his areas.

Shawwal moon not sighted, Eid on Saturday

Once again two Eids would be celebrated in the country as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced to celebrate Eid on Friday while it would be observed on Saturday in other provinces.
The Reut-e-Hilal Committee which met in Karachi for moon sighting announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday as no moon sighting testimony was received from anywhere. The announcement was made by the Chairman of Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb- ur- Rehman at the local office of the Meteorological Department. All the Zonal Ruet-i-Hilal Committees met at their respective headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that Shawwal moon has been sighted in the province and Eid would be celebrated on Friday. Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour said that the provincial government has decided to celebrate Eid on Friday following the decision of the Zonal Ruet Hilal Committee, adding that the province will celebrate the festivity with simplicity.

Eid ul-Fitr being celebrated in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, after the announcement of Shawwal moon sighting by religious elders of Peshwar’s Mosque Qasim Ali Khan. Large and small congregations of Eid prayers were held in various areas of Peshawar and Nowshehra. Eid prayers were also offered insome areasof Dera Ismail Khan; where as Hazzara will celebrate Eid tomorrow.
A huge congregation of Eid prayers was offered at Charsadda Road in Peshwar, while hundreds of people offered prayers in main Eid Gah of Nowshehra. Local Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of D.I. Khan and Tank has announced to celebrate Eid tomorrow. Eid prayers were also offered in all three Tehsils of Khyber Agency which are Landi Kotal, Jamrud and Barra. While on the other side Eid will be celebrated tomorrow in different areas of Hazzara such as Abbotabad, Haripur, and Mansehra.

Khairpur load shedding protestors block road

KHAIRPUR: Protestors blocked roads and torched tyres in Khairpur to express their anger against the constant long hours of load shedding and a transformer that has been out of order.

According to details, the Sukkur Electric Power Company has continued 16 hours load shedding in Khairpur and a transformer of Banaras Colony has been out of order for many days.

After waiting many days, the people of the city are enraged at the long power breakdown.

The protestors burnt tyres on the road in front of the Civil Hospital Khairpur, and kept it blocked for some time.

Angry protestors demanded the concerned authorities to end the long load shedding in the area, and replace the transformer immediately. SAM

England set Pakistan 275 to win

CHESTER-LE-STREET: Openers Steve Davies and Andrew Strauss combined well as England made a positive start to the NatWest Series against Pakistan.

The duo helped the hosts race to 98 for one in 15 overs of a match reduced to 41 per side at Chester-le-Street.

Ruet-e-Hilal committee meets Wednesday

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for sighting of moon of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak 1431 Hijri will be held on Wednesday (August 11).

The committee will meet under the chairmanship of Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman in the building of Pakistan Meteorological Department, Main University Road, Gulshan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.
