COLOMBO: Pakistan’s president arrived in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Saturday to begin a four-day state visit.
President Asif Ali Zardari was met off the plane by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and observed the traditional honour guard ceremony.
According to government officials, Zardari was accompanied by his foreign and defence ministers as well as around 40 other delegates.
Zardari is expected to visit parliament on Sunday, and to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart and other government officials on Monday.
It is thought that the main subjects of the talks will be enhanced economic and defence cooperation between the two south Asian countries. AGENCIES
Pak Would Welcome Dialogue With India: FM Qureshi
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: India is signaling that it is ready to hold bilateral talks, a move Pakistan would welcome if the talks lead to the resumption of full dialogue, which India suspended in late 2008, foreign minister said on Thursday.
“There are now signals emanating from India that they are willing to talk bilaterally,” Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a British news agency. “We welcome this … if it leads to resumption of the composite dialogue.”
India suspended official talks, known as the composite dialogue, on a range of issues including the disputed Kashmir region, after alleged Pakistan-based militants attacked the Indian city of Mumbai in November 2008.
