It has been noticed time and again that producers refrain from releasing their movies during the holy month of Ramzan. The reason being, a big chunk of movie-going audience abstain from watching movies during this month, which in turn makes a big dent at the box-office.

That explains why major film-makers either release their films before the holy month of Ramzan or during Eid festivities.

This year, the holy month of Ramzan will begin on the sunset of Sunday, 31 July and will continue for 30 days until Tuesday, 30 August. Surprisingly, Prakash Jha has decided to release AARAKSHAN during Ramzan this year – on 12 August. Not only Jha, even Y-Films, the youth film studio of Yash Raj Films, will release their film MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE on the same date 12 August.

Isn’t Jha making a mistake by releasing his multi-starrer AARAKSHAN during Ramzan? “See, it’s a long weekend – a 4-day weekend – since 15 August is a national holiday. Besides, AARAKSHAN gets a clear run of 2 weeks till BODYGUARD arrives on Eid 31 August, so why should I miss out on this period? The release schedule is packed with multiple films every single week and this seems to be the most appropriate period, in my opinion,” Jha reasons.

NEW YORK : The ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York Saturday had seen construction for the new World Trade Center buildings taking shape, including a memorial for the nearly 3,000 people killed by terrorists that day.

But this year, the commemoration was shaken by two particular outside events: A surge of anti-Muslim feelings reeling across the country over plans to erect a mosque and Islamic community center just two blocks from Ground Zero; and the determination of a Christian pastor in Florida to spark a mass burning of the holy book of Muslims, the Quran.

Contrasting with such tensions is the mood of joyful religious celebrations at week’s end. Muslims have ended their holy month of Ramadan with Eid-ul-Fitr, on Saturday, while Jews have celebrated their New Year, Rosh Hashana.

When their teacher backed one of their classmates into a corner, students at a Houston-area charter school thought it was a joke – but it allegedly turned into a shocking and brutal beating that was caught on tape.

Cell phone video of alleged beating at Houston-area school. (KHOU)

Sherri Davis, a science teacher at Jamie’s House Charter School, allegedly backed 13-year-old Isaiah Johnson into a corner and began beating him while his classmates watched. Davis was immediately placed on administrative leave in late April, when the incident took place, but after the video was revealed she was fired.

“It was horrifying,” said Sue Jones, spokesperson for the school. “There’s just no other word for that.”

The school is also looking into allegations that other teachers stood by and didn’t intervene, saying they will take action if that is the case.

Now I know kids are sassy, disrespectful, and often way out of control, but as someone who has worked as an educator, it is beyond inexcusable to behave in such a manner. You don’t let your emotions get out of control, and violence is not a way to teach anything. there is now way to validate such behavior, teachers are role models and supposed to be a trusted mentor. It is disgusting. The alleged teacher beating caught on tape, shows student Isaiah Johnson cornered and hit by Houston teacher Sherri Davis. Get the details and watch the video here.

vesna vulovic(May 12) — They’re calling it a miracle, and it’s easy to understand why. But the 8-year-old Dutch boy who survived today’s Libyan jet crash is just one of a number of young people who have lived to tell about their airline disasters:
Vesna Vulovic: In January 1972, a suitcase bomb planted by Croatian separatists exploded on a Yugoslav Airlines flight near Hermsdorf, Czechoslovakia. Vulovic, a flight attendant, was the sole survivor of the 28 people on board. Serving food at the time of the explosion, Vulovic woke up on a snow-covered mountain after a 33,000-foot fall that fractured her skull and both legs and broke her back in two places.
