KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Wednesday exempted industrial units of the metropolis from electricity load shedding.
A KESC spokesman said that industrial load shedding has been completely ended.
The spokesman, however, said that three to four hours of power cuts would continue in residential areas.
He said that gas supply continues to remain at 70 MMCFD.
The prolonged and unscheduled power cuts ended after Pakistan State Oil (PSO) increased oil supply to the KESC.
A PSO spokesman announced that the KESC would get daily oil supply of 2, 500 furnace oil at the prices of gas.
The spokesman said that supply of furnace oil on subsidized rates was started in line with the government’s order. Trend Pk

No let-up in power cuts

KARACHI: The ongoing electricity crisis continues to irk people, leading to four hours of power outages in urban areas and up to seven hours in rural parts.
According to PEPCO sources, the current electricity demand has been recorded at 14,600 MW against the available supply of 13,500 MW, causing a shortfall of 1,062 MW.
In order to fill the shortfall, extended load shedding is being carried out across the country.
According to sources, power generation through thermal plants grew from 5,100 MW to 6,287 MW following the improvement of water flow in rivers.
In addition, Karachi has received 710 MW of electricity over the last 24 hours. SAMAA
Separate power rates for day and night
LAHORE: Pakistan Power Electric Company (Pepco) has fixed separate rates for day and night, Geo News reported Thursday.
According to a decision made by the Pepco ”Peak Hours”, from 06:00pm to 11:00pm, rates were fixed at Rs 11.77 per unit, while, ”Off Peak Hours”, 11:00pm to 06:00pm, rates were fixed at Rs 07.18 per unit.
According to Geo News correspondent, new meters would be installed for the purpose at the consumer”s cost.
The decision has been taken to discourage the power demend, according to Pepco.

Quake jolts Quetta
QUETTA: Strong quake jolted Quetta and adjoining areas on Wednesday, Geo News reported. The quake triggered panic among the local residents and they rushed to open places.
PEPCO submits load shedding schedule in court
LAHORE: Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has submitted the schedule of load shedding in the court.
According to report, load shedding is being carried out for six hours in Shaikhupura, four hours in Lahore, six hours in Farooqabad, six hours in Qusoor, six hours in Choni, four hours in Gujaranwala, six hours in Sialkot, Gujrat, Lala Musa and Kharian, four hours in Faisalabad, six hours in Sargodha, Channiot and Toba Tek Singh, three hours in Islamabad, six hours in Rawalpindi, Jehlum, Chakwal and Wah Cantt, five hours in Multan, six hours in Khaniwal, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Report said cement industry getting power supply 24 hours whereas sugar, fertilizers, chemical and textile sectors are exempted from load shedding.
Fourteen Hours Of Load Shedding Announced In Balochistan
QUETTA PAKISTAN : Fourteen hours of load shedding has been announced in various rural areas of a Balochistan province.
According to the report, KESCO Chief Shafiq Khattak said fourteen hours load shedding will be carried out in various rural areas of Balochistan.
He said KESCO was facing 858MW power shortfall and it required 1200MW power. Explosions of power transmission tower for the last three years have caused loss of Rs 200 million, he added.
