SC constitutes larger bench to hear 18th amendment pleas
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has constituted a five-judge larger bench headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk to hear various identical constitutional petitions filed against Eighteenth Amendment, Geo News reported Saturday.
Other judges include Justice Raja Fayyaz, Justice Rehman Hussain Jaffery, Justice Jawwad Owais Khawja and Justice Tariq Pervaiz.
Supreme Court (SC) will begin the hearing from April 28.
Nadeem Ahmad Advocate in his petition stated that formation of judicial commission is violation of article 175 of constitution. Ijazul Haq, Supreme Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi District Bar Association and others also filed petitions against some of the clauses of 18th amendment.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court has recommended to the Chief Justice for constitution of a larger bench for hearing of a petition with regard to appointment of the judges.
The bench also issued notices to the federation, Attorney General and four provincial advocate generals for delay in appointment of judges in the apex court.
A two-member bench of the court comprised of Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery and Justice Shakirullah Jan heard constitutional petitions with regard to appointment of the judges.
M. Akram Advocate in his arguments during the hearing contended that the judges should be appointed on vacancies within 30 days period and delay in it is equal to non-compliance of the court.
Justice Shakirullah in his remarks said appointment of judges in high courts is discretion of the Chief Justice.
The court also called the record of the proceedings of the case and adjourned hearing till February 18.

ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court (SC) took oath on Monday in a ceremony held at the Supreme Court here. The number of SC judges now reached to 17.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has administered the oath to the judges Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, judge high court of Sindh and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery, former judges high court of Sindh. Senior judges and lawyers attended the function.
The oath text included the wordings that judges will follow code of conduct of Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). The code of conduct of SJC has been changed recently which now included that interim constitutional order will not be abide.
