Rajkumar Hirani directs Shah Rukh Khan in an ad film

Not too long ago, the ace director Raj Kumar Hirani made news when he decided to rope in his star from 3 Idiots, Kareena Kapoor, for an advert. The director who ventured into films following a successful career in advertising has now shot an ad with none other than SRK.

It is being said that the director has apparently shot an ad with King Khan for a fairness product. The two were in the past supposed to work together for 3 Idiots but the deal didn’t work out and the rest as they say is history.

The said commercial was shot in Filmistan studio in Mumbai yesterday and it will go live on air in few weeks.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra slams legal notice on makers of The 4th Idiot

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 3 Idiots may have raked in a lot of moolah for the maverick filmmaker but the film did face its share of controversies. First it was author Chetan Bhagat who accused the makers of not giving him enough credit for the storyline. While that issue died its own death in due course of time, now the makers seem to have another controversy to take care of.

Apparently, Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury (who deals with memory enhancement techniques) has gone ahead and made a 35 minute animation film called The 4th Idiot. The movie starts where 3 Idiots ends i.e. at Phunsuk Wangdu’s school and tells the story of a young boy Pappu who achieves his many dreams using the techniques taught by Rancho in 3 Idiots. What’s even more surprising is that Omi Vaidya, who was seen as Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, has given his voice-over for this animated film. The 4th Idiot was to be screened for students at the World Unity Convention Centre in Lucknow recently. However, the makers seem to be in a soup now as Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions have taken legal action against them

Vidhu Vinod Chopra is furious with the makers of this film for using a similar title, story idea and setting in their film. He has even slapped a law-suit on producer-director Biswarop Roy Chowdhury for copyright violation. Chopra is now awaiting the verdict on this case.

MUMBAI: 3 Idiots Breaks Ghajini Records Ghajini , Aamir Khan starrer comedy-drama “3 Idiots” has created a record by grossing over Rs.100 crore in its first four days. Reliance BIG Entertainment, distributor of the film, released about 2,000 prints across 40 countries.

Based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller “Five Point Someone”, the film has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

“We are privileged to have been associated with ‘3 idiots’ and its immensely talented team led by Vinod, Aamir and Raju. The ramp-up to Rs. 100 crore in 4 days is phenomenal and we are confident that the film will continue to blaze new records in the weeks to come,” Amit Khanna, chairman, Reliance Big Entertainment, said in a statement.

Added Chopra: “Response has been overwhelming from all over the world. Aamir, Raju and I knew from the responses earlier on that people liked the film but this is something else? We have got reports from places like Australia that they have reduced ‘Avatar’ shows and increased ours.”

Released on Dec 25, its box office collection has beaten the initial earnings of another Aamir starrer “Ghajini”, considered Hindi cinema’s highest grosser till date, with 30 percent more earnings till Sunday night.

“‘3 Idiots’ is the highest grossing Hindi film ever in Australia on its opening weekend. Similarly in the US, I have been given to understand that ‘3 Idiots’ would be highest ever for a Hindi film,” said Chopra.

The paid previews of the movie also garnered over Rs.9 crore worldwide, above those of the paid preview collections of “Ghajini” that was Rs.7 crore globally.

The film, which reportedly cost Rs.80-100 crore, also stars R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Movie Review 3 Idiots: 3 Idiots; Star cast: Aamir Khan as Ryan, Kareena Kapoor as Neha Kurien, Sharman Joshi as Alok, Madhavan as Hari and Boman Irani as Professor Kurien; Director: Rajkumar Hirani; Rating:

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani the flick opens with Farhan(R. Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) beginning a journey in search of their lost friend Ranchoddas Shaymaldas Chajaad (Aamir Khan) who leaves college all of sudden.

The movie proceeds through narrations that take you into the flashback when Rancho, Farhan and Raju arrive at a premier engineering institute to begin their course.

The three are roommates and go about their life at college in a lively way occasionally Raju and Farhan being worried about Rancho’s antiques.

The so called “villain” of the flick whose ways are against that of Rancho is the Dean of the college Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani). In addition, to make matters worse Rancho happens to find love in his daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor).

The movie has some really hilarious moments with wedding reception mayhem of Viru’s oldest daughter played by Mona Singh, Raju’s father being reached to the hospital in a very funny way on a two-wheeler and so on.

The first half keeps you at wits end. But, enter second half and you are no longer given the same experience of the first half. The end stretches a bit too long and some things are just too away from spontaneity.

The music is light and entertaining. On the whole a decent flick. Only time will tell if it joins the ranks of Aamir Khan’s other blockbuster movies.

3 Idiots works and how! With a good grip on emotions and entertainment, 3 Idiots is the biggest hit of 2009 for sure. Take it from us.
