Karachi: Swine flu patient dies

Karachi trendpk.com: A patient of swine flu died in Karachi on Saturday and Health Department has also verified his death.
According to Sindh Swine Flu Cell Dr Soraish Kumahr, 48-year Iftikhar Ullah, a patient of swine flu was admitted in Abbasi Shaheed hospital on 29th of December. Iftikhars blood and other tests were sent to National Institute of Health but he died on late Friday. The doctor said that the reports have declared that Iftikhar was a patient of swine flu. On the other hand, doctors have decided a complete check up of Iftikhars family.
Mohmand: 50 killed, 70 injured in twin suicide blasts
At least 50 people including two tribal leaders were killed while around 35 got injured in two suicide blasts at Political Agent’s office in Ghalanai, the chief town of Mohmand tribal region on Monday.
The first blast took place at the PAs office while the second one occurred in the lawn. Tribal leader Malik Saleem Mohmand and Malik Kachkol were among those killed while the assistant political agent got severely injured.The attack was carried out by two suicide bombers and targeted a local administration compound in Ghalalnai, the main town in Mohmand, about 175km (110 miles) north-west of the capital Islamabad.
Over 100 people were said to be in the compound, where talks were taking place between government officials, tribal elders and local anti-Taliban groups.
The injured were being shifted to Peshawar hospital while the security agencies cordoned off the area.
KP information minister Mian Iftikhar, while talking to mediapersons vowed complete elimination of the terrorists from the land. He also confirmed that the number of those dead in the attack is 50.
Iftikhar said that the terrorists could not demoralize the nation and added that targeting mosques, jirgas, hospitals and public places is against Pakhtoon traditions. These terrorists are not humans, they are savages, the minister maintained.
PU Harassment Case: Prof Iftikhar Baloch Gets Clean Chit form Police
Police acquitted Professor Iftikhar Baloch of the Punjab University of harassment case.
Meanwhile, Baloch withdrew his interim bail application.
Principal of Environmental Sciences Department Prof Iftikhar was alleged of harassing two women after which he was suspended from the said department and was transferred to Geology Department.
The revelations of the incident led to huge protests by the varsity students. On Saturday, the police presented its report to the session judge while the probe report being carried out by the university administration has not been prepared yet.
Saudi Prince writes to CJP over costly lodgings for Pak Hujjaj
Saudi Prince Bandar bin Khalid bin Faisal on Wednesday wrote a letter to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry alleging Pakistans religious ministry of committing huge corruption in provision of residences to the Hujjaj at Makkah.
The Saudi prince, in a letter to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, accused the Federal Religious Affairs Ministry of funds embezzlement.
He addressed the CJP divulging that the Pakistan’s Religious Affairs Ministry rejected the Saudi offer pertaining to the residences for the 35,000 pilgrims costing just 3,350 riyals, which was just 2 kilometers away from Haram and committed for the lodgings costing 3,400 to 3,600 riyals.
Taking the suo moto notice on the letter, the apex court directed the concerned ministry to file a reply in this respect within 15 days.
Religious Affairs Ministry denies allegations
However, Ministry for Religious Affairs denied the allegations.
Secretary Religious Affairs Agha Sarwar Qizalbash said that the government took Rs 2,380,00 which is 3,600 riyal from each pilgrim for Hajj expenditures.
Peshawar: 5 killed, 20 injured as blast rocks mosque
At least 5 people have been killed while 20 others injured when a bomb blast ripped through a mosque at Pishtakharra, Peshawar, Dunya News reported on Friday.
Several people had been offering the Juma prayers when the explosion occurred. Police said that 1.5kg explosives were used in the bomb.
According to initial reports, the bomb was planted at the mosque’s verandah. Police and rescue teams have reached the place and kicked off the relief activities.
The injured are being shifted to the nearby hospitals.
Increase in number of casualties is feared due to high intensity of blast.Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain has confirmed that some three people have been killed while 20 others got severely injured in the explosion.
Mian Iftikhar termed the terrorists act a reaction against the ongoing military offensive in the northern parts of the country, adding that such nasty incidents would continue to occur till the complete flushing out of the terrorists.
NADRA staff tortures SAMAA reporter in Shikarpur

SHAIKARPUR: The officials of NADRA tortured SAMAA’s reporter, Iftikhar Arain, and snatched his camera on Thursday when he reached the office to cover the complaints received by the people.
According to the details, Iftikhar reached at office and covered complained received by the people but NADRA staff made him hostage, tortured and snatched his camera. Iftikhar is also given life threats by the NDARA staff.
Several journalists reached at NADRA office after the incident and chanted slogans against the attitude of the staff. They also demanded the authorities to register a case against the NADRA staff.

LAHORE: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday took suo motu notice of police torture on protesting lawyers in Lahore.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Chaudhry summoned Punjab’s Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, DCO, RPO and CCPO before the Supreme Court on October 4, 2010.
Police baton-charged lawyers who were taking out a rally on Thursday.

ISLAMABAD: Traffic police have fined the vehicle of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, SAMAA reported Thursday.
Police fined the vehicle on Margalla road for over speeding. Police said that the driver of the vehicle was not carrying the documents of the vehicle either.
SSP Traffic Dr. Moeen said that the vehicle was not kept in police custody.

Mian Iftikhar warns of more militant attacks

PESHAWAR: Information Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mian Iftikhar Hussain said on Saturday that militants are taking advantage of the nation’s existing flood disaster and planning more attacks.
While talking to media about the incident of a militant attack on an army office in Peshawar Cantt., Mian Iftikhar Hussain feared more such attacks and terror activities.
“We are still trying to find out how militants entered in the territory and what their intended target is,” said KP Information Minister.
“They have been surrounded by security agencies and so far there are no casualties,” he told reporters.
He urged the people to unite to fight against militants.
Suspected militants attacked an army intelligence office in Peshawar, officials said, setting off a gunbattle that paralyzed parts of the city.
