Disney’s buckles up for worldwide release of ‘Tron Legacy’

Tron: Legacy, a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that is unlike anything ever captured on the big screen is all set to release on December 17 worldwide. The film will bring alive a visually stunning world created by Joseph Kosinski and scored by Grammy Award-winning electronic music duo Daft Punk.

The multi-layered offering will go beyond cinema, with mobile and online games, merchandise and special offers. Tron: Legacy will be the only movie ever in India to be supported with a wide-ranging gaming catalogue comprising a collection of six games across all digital platforms Multiplayer online, 3D Online, Mobile and IOS.

Mahesh Samat, managing director- The Walt Disney Company India said, “Tron: Legacy is a great example of how Disney can offer unique and immersive experiences of its story and characters across multiple platforms. We can’t wait for kids and families to enjoy this incredible film, as it hits Indian screens this week.”

Disney home entertainment will release the visually stunning world on Blu-ray discs, DVDs and VCDs in February 2011 giving fans yet another opportunity to experience the Tron: Legacy.

Suspended IPL chief Lalit Modi fears termination

MUMBAI: Suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi will be stripped of his posts by the country’s powerful cricket board on Wednesday, an official said, capping his incredible demise.

Modi was suspended as the IPL chairman in April by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), owners of the hugely popular Twenty20 IPL tournament, following allegations of corruption, indiscipline and money-laundering.

He was also been suspended as one of the five vice-presidents of the BCCI and removed as chairman of the T20 Champions League, a separate club tournament organised jointly by India, Australia and South Africa.

The BCCI is now expected to formally remove Modi from all the posts he held at its annual general meeting in Mumbai, completing his fall from one of the most powerful world cricket figures to a tarnished outsider.

Facebook membership hits 500 million mark

SAN FRANCISCO: The number of people using Facebook hit the 500 million mark on Wednesday, meaning one in every 14 people on the planet has now signed up to online social-networking service.

“As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them,” Facebook found Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post.

“This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world.”

To celebrate, the California firm introduced an application that lets members of the online community “tell the incredible stories of the moving and interesting ways they”ve used Facebook.”

Examples given by Zuckerberg included Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen jogging with Facebook fans during his term as Danish prime minister and a US woman using the service to battle breast cancer.

“Our mission at Facebook is to help make the world more open and connected,” Zuckerberg said.

“Stories like these are examples of that mission and are both humbling and inspiring. I could have never imagined all of the ways people would use Facebook when we were getting started 6 years ago.”

Chicago ST Patrick s day parade 2010

The Taoiseach has begun a five-day official visit to the US. The visit will culminate with a St Patrick’s Day meeting in the Oval Office at the White House with US President Barack Obama.

Yesterday evening, Brian Cowen arrived in Chicago where he attended the Irish Fellowship annual St Patrick’s dinner.

Today, he will be one of the main guests at Chicago’s St Patrick’s Day parade, traditionally one of the biggest held in the US.

Cimate Change Film Premieres In Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN: A short film highlighting the impact of climate change on the Barrier Reef has made its global premiere in Copenhagen.

The film is produced by New South Wales far south coast filmmakers ToniHousten and Bettina Richter, both of whom are in the Danish capitalfor the event.

The screening was the only Australian contribution to the cultural program that forms part of the United Nations’ climate change conference in theDanish capital.

Ms Housten says it is a significant historic event.

“Oh it’s amazing, to have brought this idea from its genesis a year ago in theBega Valley and having such support where we come from and the success of our fundraiser and all of the support from our community right through to this incredible conference in Copenhagen, we’re just thrilled” she said.

She says the film’s screening has played a tiny part in the effort to reduceglobal warming.

“We went to the massive demonstration with over 100,000 people,” she said.

“There’s a real mix of what’s possible and the conflict of agendas and the spirit and sense of can we get these agreements?”

The pair hope to secure a worldwide distributor for the film at the festival.
