Bollywood glamour glitters India Couture Week

MUMBAI: Top Bollywood stars lent their glamour to the HDIL India Couture Week in Mumbai, taking to the catwalk for celebrated fashion designers whose creations they are often seen wearing in their movies.

The Mumbai couture week opened on Wednesday with Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan showcasing designer Manish Malhotra’s Bridal couture collection.

A former Miss World who’s one of India’s most famous female faces, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was a known model before becoming a Bollywood superstar.

Giant spheres covered with marigolds and lit earthen lamps hung from the ceiling and set the mood for the opening show.

Malhotra unveiled his bridal creations ahead of the wedding season in India, using colors ranging from white to flame red, maroon, wine and jade green.

MUMBAI : Katrina Kaif Didn’t Like Salman Khan Dress, Here’s one man who knows how to win the hearts of women, be it by taking off his shirt or by going the extra mile to make them feel special! And this time, when Salman Khan came to the city, he held a screening of his forthcoming movie, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, exclusively for women.

And it’s not just the women who are on his side; he has the support of his friends too. Buddies Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda and Saif Ali Khan and brother Arbaaz Khan walked the ramp for his charity fashion show at HDIL India Couture Week 2009. “It was an amazing experience and I am so grateful that my friends made it a success,” he said. But, while all walked back home happy, Katrina Kaif wasn’t too happy. She sported an outfit that had a painting of Salman’s on it. “Honestly, she didn’t appreciate it much. Nevertheless, she enjoyed being a part of the show.” So does he plan to continue painting? “I don’t plan anything. I love painting and that’s why I do it,” he said.

“I respect women and the screening was a different experience altogether. It was a lot of fun,” he said. Watching the movie along with him were Sohail Khan, Sajid-Wajid, Sanjana Jon and Prem Soni, the director of the flick.

And that’s not all – he likes to bond with the common man too and it was Dus Ka Dum, the reality show that he hosted, that gave him a chance to interact with his fans. “It was an instant connect with people. They gave me a chance to be honest and I let them talk about their lives,” he said. And while the show ended on Diwali, Salman says, “I liked being on the small screen and hope to be back soon. I know people want to see me again.” From TV to cricket, is an IPL team on the cards? “I can’t say just wait and watch”, he said.

Walking The Ramp With Saif Was Special: Kareena Kapoor

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor, who strutted down the ramp for bridal collection of his friend Manish Malhotra on the current HDIL India Couture Week here with her boyfriend, Saif Ali Khan, says it was a very special show she.

“I’ve walked the ramp many times in the past for my friend Manish, but this was different and very special because for the first time I was walking with Saif.’s Always a special feeling to be with him,” said Kareena.

Saif added, “Yes, it was fun. We had fun during rehearsals as well.”

While sashaying down the ramp smiling Kareena watched as the audience Saif managed to keep a poker face.

The first row was occupied by a number of Bollywood celebrities who had to push for a place in the area full of entertainment.

Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Kajol, Imran Khan, Dino Morea, Uday Chopra, Sophie Chaudhary, and Boney Kapoor and Sridevi who came with her daughters, adds glamor quotient.

The collection is called “The Wedding of Doom” and the whole decorated with white curtains that fall from the ceiling like a dream sequence from a Bollywood film.

The background music of Hindi films had Chartbusters and emotional Atayachaar, Twist, Chor Bazzari among others.

The line had an interesting combination of colors like peach, ivory and beige. With minimalist embroidery and a lot of bling, Malhotra’s collection was elegant and sexy at the same time too.

“These days many people in India are having your wedding abroad. Last month I designed for a wedding in Portugal. I want people to know what colors and silhouettes to be used at weddings as” Malhotra said.

The range of all I had a girl can dream – from outside Kurtas Lehenga to shoulder, long jackets for elegant blouse.
