Inflation up by 22pc: SPI
Weekly inflation up by 22 percent during the week ended on Dec 23.
According to Sensitive Price Index (SPI), the inflation showed an increase of 0.48pc as copared to the last week ended on Dec 15. The prices of tomatoes surged by 14 percent and reached 80 per kilogram which was four times high as compare with corresponding period of the last year. The prices of onion also showed an increase of 150 percent as compared with the last year. Egg prices closed at 88.44 per dozen.
A nominal decrease was observed in the prices of sugar and potato, while meat and beef prices remained unchanged.

National Assembly standing committee for food and agriculture has rejected RGST, trendpk.Com reported on Saturday.
On the other hand FBR has confessed that the imposition of RGST would cause an increase in the inflation rate. Javed Iqbal Warraich presided over the meeting of standing committee for food and agriculture. During the meeting the members of the committee said that the agriculture sector is already under stress and that it should be saved from RGST. Imposition of RGST on agricultural sector would increase the prices of fertilizers, seed, pesticides and agricultural machinery which, in turn, would affect the peasants.
On the other hand standing committee has recommended to lift the ban on export of Gurr from KhyberPakhtunkhwa. Standing committee has constituted another committee to to deal with export of Gurr to Afghanistan from KhyberPkahtunkhwa.

Street crime on rise in Karachi ahead of Eid

KARACHI: Karachi is witnessing a sharp surge in incidents of street crime ahead of Eid ul Adha.
According to official figures, 192 vehicles, 695 motorcycles and 978 mobile phones were either snatched or stolen in different parts of the country’s largest city over the last 15 days.
On showing resistance, nine citizens were murdered and 33 others were wounded.
Despite tall claims of heightened security, 122 people were robbed of cash outside banks and automated teller machines (ATMs).
The growing incidents of street crime have added to the woes of the inflation-hit public. Trend Pk
