BENGHAZI: The head of rebel forces in eastern Libya said on Thursday that an air strike on a rebel position appeared to be a case of “friendly fire” by NATO forces but said it did not create tension between the two.
Wounded rebels being brought to a hospital in Ajdabiyah in rebel-held east Libya said on Thursday they were hit by a NATO strike on trucks and tanks outside the contested port of Brega.
“We are not questioning the intention of NATO, because they should be here to help us and the civilians, but we would like to receive some answers regarding what happened today,” Abdel Fattah Younes, head of the rebel forces, told a news conference. “We would assume it was NATO by mistake, friendly fire.”
Rebel fighters had put the death toll at five. Younes said the toll so far was four dead, 14 wounded and six missing. AGENCIES
PCB Appointed Javed Miandad as Batting Consultant
Javed Miandad is likely to become batting coach of Pakistan. PCB sources said that PCB is negotiating with Javed Miandad for appointing him as batting coach for Pakistan team. Currently he has been appointed as batting consultant for Pakistan team. On the willing of president of Pakistan,PCB chairman Ijaz Butt is considering Javed Miandad for the job of batting coach.
There was some news that PCB was looking for some foreign coach but all the news were dejected when it was disclosed that Miandad could be the new batting coach. Pakistan team training cam is starting from 7th December in Lahore for preparation of New Zealand tour. It is expected that he will join the camp.
According to information he also showed his intention to join Pakistan team as coach and he will be part of Pakistan team during the New Zealand tour. Ijaz Butt wants to take full advantage of Miandad’s experience that is why they decided to give him coaching responsibility.
Pakistan is lacking batting coach and it is expected that his appointment will definitely help the batting of Pakistan team. Pakistan manager Intikhab Alam, showed hi s unawareness of any news of appointment of new coach. World cup is approaching and board is planning to have full time batting coach that will help young players to improve their batting.
Afghans Koran burning protest continues on 3rd day

KABUL: Demonstrators took to Afghanistan’s streets for a third day on Sunday to protest against a U.S. preacher’s plan to burn copies of the Koran even though he has since withdrawn the threat.
Chanting “Death to America” and “Death to Christians”, demonstrators clashed with Afghan security forces in Logar province, south of the capital Kabul.
The pastor of an obscure U.S. church has abandoned plans to burn the Moslem holy book on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States. But there were at least three incidents of desecration in New York and Tennessee on Saturday.
Word of the intention to burn the Koran had already triggered outrage in Afghanistan and across the Muslim world.

LAHORE: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhry has taken suo moto notice of the lynching of a 40 year old person in Lahore, after allegation of theft, SAMAA reported on Tuesday.
The Chief Justice has ordered Punjab Police’s Inspector General to forward a detailed report of the incident by September 6.
According to a notification issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Chief Justice has taken suo moto notice after reading a column in a newspaper.
The column of the newspaper described that laborers of a fruit market in Lahore killed a 40 year old unknown person under the assumption that he entered a shop with the intention to snatch fruit.

WASHINGTON: Israel”s Prime Minister has called off his trip to Washington next week to attend a conference on the spread of nuclear weapons, officials in his office said, fearing Israel would be singled out over its own nuclear programme.
Benjamin Netanyahu had said he would attend the conference to underline the dangers of terrorists acquiring nuclear weapons, but suddenly called off the trip less than two days after he announced he would take part.
Officials in his office said that Netanyahu reversed himself because some nations planned to use the conference to target Israel over its barely concealed nuclear weapons programme. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity.
In Washington, National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer confirmed that Israel had informed the US that Netanyahu would be staying home, sending his deputy, Dan Meridor, instead.
The Israeli officials did not name the states thought to be planning to single out Israel, which has not signed the nuclear nonproliferation treaty. Muslim nations – including Egypt, which has a peace treaty with Israel – have often complained about Israel”s nuclear programme.
Israel has not admitted to possessing nuclear weapons, preferring a policy it calls “ambiguity”. Based on evidence, international experts have estimated that Israel has dozens, possibly hundreds, of nuclear bombs.
The most detailed evidence emerged in 1986, when a former technician at Israel”s main nuclear facility leaked pictures and information to the Sunday Times. The technician, Mordechai Vanunu, was captured and served an 18-year prison sentence in Israel.
Announcing his intention to fly to Washington, Netanyahu told a Jerusalem news conference on Wednesday that he did not expect pressure over Israel”s nuclear programme there.
“I”m not concerned that anyone would think that Israel is a terrorist regime,” Netanyahu said. “Everybody knows a terrorist and rogue regime when they see one, and believe me, they see quite a few around Israel.”
For years, Netanyahu has been leading a campaign to publicise Iran”s nuclear programme, charging that it is meant to produce nuclear weapons. Israel has called for stiff sanctions against Iran, but at the same time has not taken the option of a military strike against Iranian nuclear facilities off the table.
Never forced Shoaib to marry: Ayesha
KARACHI: Ayesha Siddiqui, the alleged wife of Shoaib Malik, Saturday said that she had never forced Shoaib to marry her and that it was Shoaib himself who first expressed the intention of getting married.
Talking exclusively to Geo News, Ayesha Siddiqui clarified that she had never chatted with Shoaib over the Internet nor did their first meeting took place on the Internet.
“We first met in Dubai in the year 2000 … I never even recognized in that meeting that he was a Pakistani cricketer,” she claimed.
To a question, Ayesha said: “At first we were only good friends and it was Shoaib himself who disclosed to the media that we had met in Dubai.”
She said her second meeting with Shoaib took place in Jeddah and that Shoaib came to India by receiving a visa from Kenya.
