HUNTSVILLE: British Prime Minister David Cameron Friday warned against “the destruction” of BP as its shares plummeted close to a 14-year low amid the battle against the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The new British leader, who will hold his first bilateral talks Saturday with US President Barack Obama, said it was important for transparency over the British company”s liability in the catastrophe.
“I think it is also in all our long-term interests that there is some clarity, some finality, to all of this, so that we don”t at the same time see the destruction of a company that is important for all our interests,” he told Canadian broadcaster.
BP has increasingly come under fire from the US administration for triggering the country”s worst ever environmental disaster when a BP-leased rig exploded in the Gulf in April.
Despite desperate efforts, BP is still not capping all of the estimated 35,000 to 60,000 barrels of oil spilling into the sea every day.
The British energy giant said Friday it had spent 2.35 billion dollars (1.9 billion euros) on compensation and clean-up costs as the giant slick washes up on the southern US coast.
But the final costs are likely to be even higher, with BP already having agreed to pay 20 billion dollars into a compensation fund over the next five years.

“We”re extremely concerned about these reports and will closely follow developments,” he told a news conference. He said China was worried the show of naval force could unsettle the region. “Under current circumstances, all the parties concerned should exercise calm and restraint and do nothing to escalate tensions and harm the interests of countries in this region,” Qin said.

JJ Abrams’ Secret Super 8 Movie Is Not A Cloverfield Sequel Yesterday several sites unrelated to this one started circulating the rumor that JJ Abramsâ mysterious, secret film project Super 8 was actually a sequel to Cloverfield. They said it with such certainty that everyone seemed to believe it. JJ Abrams, however, now says theyâre full of it. Talking to NY Mag he says of the film, âit has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, despite your expert reporting.â
That seems pretty definitive. So what is it? Weâll find out Friday morning shortly after midnight when the filmâs first trailer debuts in front of Iron Man 2 here in America. For now Abrams, as he did with Cloverfield, is going to extraordinary lengths to keep it under wraps. The movieâs trailer was even sent to theaters in special canisters which required a code to be opened.
Check back here on Cinema Blend first thing Friday morning and weâll have all the details

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday ordered re-negotiation of the agreement on the supply and pricing of natural gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin between the two Reliance groups within six weeks, based on the governmentâs policy on the subject.
A three member bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice P. Sathasivam also asked Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries and Anil Ambani-led Reliance Natural Resources to place the new agreement before the company bench of the Bombay High Court.

The chief justice, who read out the operative parts of the much-awaited judgment, said the agreement between the two brothers should serve as the âguiding toolâ in reaching the new gas supply and pricing pact within the guidelines of the the government.
The agreement between the two brothers concerned the price, quantity and tenure of gas supplies by Reliance Industries. It called for 28 million units of gas a day to be sold to Reliance Natural Resources at $2.34 per unit for 17 years.
âWe respect the judgment of the honourable Supreme Court and note that the Supreme Court has safeguarded the interests of over 25 lakh Reliance Natural Resources shareholders,â said Reliance Natural Resources chairman Anil Ambani.
Addressing a teleconference with reporters, he said the apex court had made it clear the arrangement between the two companies should be suitable to both parties, adding he now looked forward to an expeditious and successful re-negotiation within six weeks.
âWhile giving the guidelines for an expeditious finalisation of the gas supply agrement between Reliance Industries and Reliance Natural Resources, by majority judgment the honourable Supreme Court has upheld Reliance Natural Resourcesâ case,â he said.
âThe honourable Supreme Court has upheld the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18, 2005, served as the backdrop for the scheme and is the guiding force and the basis of the scheme of arrangements for business reorganisation of Reliance Industries.â

Fire Nancy Pelosi
Fire Nancy Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi doesnât represent the interests of the American people. Sheâs a San Francisco liberal with âvaluesâ to match. Even Saturday Night Liveâs New York City liberals mocked her. Sheâs weak on terrorism, votes for every tax increase and big budget that comes along, and would probably tomorrow admit to being socialist if it wouldnât cause such a head ache for her already-far-left agenda.
She promised the most ethical Congress in history. She delivered one of the most corrupt. She promised accountability and transparency. She delivered an historical level of under-handedness, back room dealing, and hidden bribes. She has lied every step of the way, doing whatever is necessary to push her far-left agenda down the throat of an unwilling public.
Republicans are in a strong position to take back the House majority and fire Pelosi in the 2010 midterm election. In terms of candidate recruitment, fundraising, and issue development, we are far ahead of where we were at this point in 1993 â and you remember what happened in 1994.
