LAHORE: Two more heart patients, after consuming the suspicious medicines, lost their lives Tuesday, pushing the overall death toll to 121 in Punjab.
The string of deaths spurred by the dubious medicines of Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) could not be stemmed despite all the frenzied efforts by the government of Punjab.
According to sources, Central Drug Laboratory of Karachi declared one of the seven PIC medicines as substandard.
Meantime, the investigations under Punjab’s aegis also revealed that some PIC officials are involved in the scam as some deficient medicines were changed without keeping back their records.
Also, the federal government banned the sale of heart medicines manufactured by as many as five pharmaceutical companies. TrendPK

CIA police disbanded in Karachi

KARACHI: Responding to the reports of corruption, Capital City police have disbanded CIA on Saturday, reports TrendPK.
Meanwhile, the officials as well as the employees of the agency have been directed to immediately report to CCPO.
DIG Investigations has also issued notification regarding disbanding of CIA, sources said, adding that the decision was reached following the alleged reports of corruption, bribery and under arrest torture by the agency. TrendPK
DIG Investigation injured in Quetta suicide attack; one killed

QUETTA: At least one man was killed while another seven sustained injures in a powerful suicide explosion at the home of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigations police in Quetta, TrendPK reported Thursday.
DIG Investigations Wazir Khan Nasir and his son Zubair Khan have been reportedly injured in explosion.
According to details, a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the wall of DIG home on Gulistan Road, which killed one person and wounded seven others.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) police, Daud Junejo, said attacker first opened fire and then blew up his explosive-laden car, killing his guard at the gate. He said DIG was slightly wounded in the attack.
Balochistan has long been hit by a low-level insurgency by nationalists aimed at seeking a greater share of profits from natural resources.
Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has strongly condemned the attack and ordered investigation.TrendPK
ICC Satisfied After Players Ban
ICC chief executive, Haroon Lorat said ICC is satisfied with the ban on three Pakistani players. He said that he was expecting the same from the tribunal and they have decided the case well. He added that tribunal was independent tribunal and the hearing was conducted in the unbiased way.
Salman Butt has been banned for 10 years, Asif for seven years while Amir has been banned for 5 years. The decision is welcomed by the ICC. Lorgat said that the team hearing the case was the experience team and they done total independent work and ICC is fully satisfied with the performance of the tribunal.
Lorgat said that he was confident that the players will get punishment for their doings. He added that they have done corruption in the game and they have to pay for it. He also said that corruption in the game will never be bear by any mean. He committed on zero tolerance.
The chairman of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) Ronnie Flanagan added that the investigation against the corruption was initiated far before the news was broke by the news of the world. He said that ACSU gather evidence against the players and completed the investigations against them. Now Asif and Salman Butt have a chance to reduce their punishment up to 5 years.
India refuses to share Samjhauta probe details with Pakistan

NEW DELHI: India has refused to share details of the Samjhauhta bombing probe with Pakistan, TrendPK reported on Tuesday.
According to media reports, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the External Affairs Ministry to tell Pakistan that it cannot share details of the Samjhauta blast investigations right now, as investigations are at a preliminary stage and it would be premature.
This comes a day after Pakistan asked India to provide an early update to it on the investigations into the 2007 Samjhauta Express train bombing in the wake of RSS leader Swami Aseemanand’s confession about the involvement of Sangh activists in the attack.
India’s acting Deputy High Commissioner G V Srinivas was called to the Foreign Office by Director General (South Asia) Afrasiab Mehdi Hashmi, who said information on progress in the investigations should be provided by New Delhi “at the earliest”.
Aseemanand, 59, recently confessed to the involvement of Sangh activists in several terrorist attacks, including the bombing of the Samjhauta Express that killed as many as 68 people, including 42 Pakistan nationals.

SC Dismisses Plea to Stop Steel Mills Graft Probe
ISLAMABAD, News Trends: Supreme Court (SC) dismissed plea filed here in order to plead the court to stall the investigations into Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) corruption worth billions of rupees.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry expressed disapproval when the PSM’s counsel Fakhrud Din G Ibrahim pleaded the court for order to stop the investigations into PSM corruption.
A three-member bench headed by the CJP Chaudhry heard the case regarding the PSM corruption. Also Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Wasim Akhtar was present during the hearing.
FG Ibrahim submitted that the FIA investigations into the Mills corruption is causing loss to the PSM; accordingly, this process should be stanched.
Police capture two terrorists from Lyari, Karachi

KARACHI: Police on Thursday apprehended two criminals wanted in target killings of doctors and religious leaders from Lyari, Karachi.
Both men are affiliated with a banned outfit, Sipah-e-Sahaba.
Police said that Abullah has been held during a raid in Behar Colony. Abdullah was wanted by CID.
The government announced a Rs. 0.5 million cash award for him – dead or alive.
He killed several people including Dr. Badar and Maulana Maviya in Lyari.
