DUBAI: England seamer Stuart Broad grabbed 4-36 to shoot out series leader Pakistan for 99 on the first day of the third and final Test on Friday.

James Anderson took 3-35 and finished off Pakistan for its sixth lowest ever total against England when he clean bowled Umar Gul midway into the second session.

Pakistan ran into trouble soon after captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to bat. Anderson struck in the first over and Broad dented the middle-order with three wickes in space of 16 deliveries.

Asad Shafiq fought a lone battle with 45 off 78 balls before he was trapped lbw by left-arm spinner Monty Panesar (2-25). Pakistan has an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. AGENCIES

England 29/0 (12.0 ov)
England trail by 239 runs with 10 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
Stumps – Day 1
England captured the last four Australia wickets for 89 runs to limit the hosts to a first innings total of 268 before stumps on the first day of the third Test in Perth on Thursday.
After resuming on 179/6, Australia’s rearguard was halted by paceman James Anderson in the fourth over after tea when wicketkeeper Brad Haddin nicked a thick edge to Graeme Swann at slip to go for 53.
Anderson then bowled paceman Ryan Harris for three in his next over to leave Australia 201/8 before fast bowler Mitchell Johnson produced a fighting half-century in a solid return to the side after being dropped following the first Test in Brisbane. Johnson’s heroics were ended by Steve Finn, however, who dismissed the paceman for a top-scoring 62 after enticing him into a poorly hit pull shot straight to Anderson at square leg. Spinner Graeme Swann then had Ben Hilfenhaus out for 13, caught by Alastair Cook at short leg to leave Siddle stranded on 35 not out.

HOBART: England signalled the probable makeup of their first Ashes test bowling attack on Monday with the decision to send four players to Brisbane early rather than playing a warmup match in Tasmania.

Pacemen Stuart Broad, Steve Finn and James Anderson, and offspinner Graeme Swann would leave Hobart on Wednesday, after the first day of England’s four-day match against Australia A, to begin preparations for the Nov. 25 test, coach Andy Flower said.

“The conditions in Hobart are very different in Brisbane and the ones we will be facing in the first test,” Flower told reporters in a wet and chilly Hobart.

“We want to give that group of bowlers a little head start in those conditions so they’re going three days earlier than the rest of us.”

Flower added while they had signalled their likely bowling attack for the first test there was still a possibility

LONDON: Stuart Broad delighted a capacity Lord’s crowd on Saturday by following up a splendid innings of 169 with two wickets in 10 balls on the third day of the fourth test between England and Pakistan.

Broad shared a world-record eighth-wicket partnership of 332 with Jonathan Trott (184) after England had been reeling at 102 for seven in their first innings on Friday.

They recovered to reach 446, a total which assumed intimidating proportions when Pakistan stumbled to 46 for three at tea.

Broad, taking the new ball from the Pavilion end, moved a delivery away from Yasir Hameed (2) who was comfortably caught at second slip by Graeme Swann.

Imran Farhat fell to James Anderson for six, edging a catch to wicketkeeper Matt Prior. Broad then bowled Pakistan’s leading batsman Mohammad Yousuf for a duck.

England lead by 146 runs with 1 wicket remaining
Pakistan transformed the third test against England at the Oval Friday in a spectacular passage of bowling immediately after tea on the third day.
Six England second innings wickets fell for 26 runs as they collapsed from the comparative comfort of 194 for three at tea to 221 for nine when bad light stopped play. England, who are 2-0 ahead in the four-match series, hold an overall lead of 146 with one wicket in hand.
After Alastair Cook had ended a batting slump stretching back to the start of the season with 110 including 16 boundaries, England appeared in no trouble on a good pitch against some lacklustre bowling.
Cook made a fast start after coming into the match with 106 runs from eight innings. He scored two boundaries in succession through the slips off Mohammad Asif and carved Wahab Riaz for another four through the vacant fourth slip position. Cook continued to go for his shots, contributing 87 in a second wicket partnership of 116 with Jonathan Trott before he was out after more than doubling his previous test aggregate of 106 runs from eight innings this season.
His hundred came up in bizarre circumstances when Asif, who looked out of sorts all day, gathered the ball on the bounce and threw it over wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal for four overthrows. England’s rot started in the first over after tea when Kevin Pietersen was clean bowled through the gap by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal for 23.
Ajmal, who had toiled throughout the afternoon session without reward after dismissing nightwatchman James Anderson for 11 with his first delivery of the innings, followed up by bowling Eoin Morgan for five.
In the meantime Trott, who had crawled to 36 in 3-1/2 hours, was caught in the gully off Mohammad Amir. He failed to score from 110 of his 130 deliveries.
Paul Collingwood (3) and Matt Prior (5) were caught behind off Amir, who was now jagging the ball late off the pitch at high pace from the Pavilion end and Graeme Swann (6) became Ajmal’s fourth victim when he was also bowled.
When the players left the field, Amir and Ajmal had taken six wickets between them after the tea interval.
