Federer slips in Rome drizzle, Djokovic cruises
Even a great champion You can’t go 100 percent winning throughout the season,” the Swiss told a news conference after his error-strewn 2-6 6-1 7-5 second round defeat.
“Sometimes when you are winning, it seems too easy. When you lose you realize how tough it is to dominate the tour. So I won’t get carried away with the defeat.”
The Swiss said his numerous past triumphs, including his 16th grand slam at the Australian Open in January, cushioned the disappointment.
“It’s easier to take because I’m used to so much winning,” said Federer, adding that he was not worried about his French Open title defense after making the worse possible start to his claycourt season. The French Open starts on May 23.Roger Federer appreciates a reality check from time to time. The world number one got one on Tuesday when he was stunned by Latvian Ernests Gulbis to exit the Rome Masters

The Raiders are “preparing the process” of releasing JaMarcus Russell, according to ESPN’s John Clayton.
NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi was all over this story as soon as the Jason Campbell trade went down. Despite coach Tom Cable’s protestations to the contrary, the Raiders were simply not going to risk an injury that would guarantee Russell $6.45 million more than he’s already stolen. Al Davis’ hand-picked No. 1 overall pick in 2007 will likely be axed before this weekend’s minicamp, and he may struggle to find a second opportunity elsewhere.

Jason Mayhem Miller
Jason Mayhem Miller wasn’t fighting on the card at Strikeforce Nashville Saturday night but he still managed to
make himself part of the action. Following the main event fight between Jake Shields and Dan Henderson, Mayhem stepped into the postfight interview on CBS to solicit a rematch with Shields (Shields beat Mayhem in November). Miller may have been playing around but Shields’ friends in the ring took it seriously and a brawl ensued. Watch Gus Johnson and CBS lose their minds over this Jason Mayhem Miller brawl incited at Strikeforce in Nashville that was brought to my attention by Michael David Smith at Fanhouse:
Miller may have been messing around but the guy throwing punches and kicks in the left corner of the video clearly wasn’t. MMA already gets a bad name for the violent nature of the sport so this is the last problem it needed on a night where they’re on a major network like CBS. My guess is with their ratings not doing much better than Spike TV, these sorts of incidents will make other networks further reluctant to televise the sport. At least Aoki didn’t break anyone’s arm in the ring this time; he was too busy getting dominated by Gilbert Melendez.

Rumors are swirling that after the acquisition of Donovan McNabb by the Washington Redskins that as many as 5 teams are interested in now back-up quarterback and restricted free agent Jason Campbell. Those 5 teams appear to be the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and an unnamed team. While it shouldn’t be too much of a shock there is this much interest in Jason Campbell, it is interesting as to how many quarterbacks the Jaguars have been linked to this offseason. Is it a bit of foreshadowing?
Star-divide
Today I had originally planned to write about how the trades recently made by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns helped Jacksonville’s chances of either landing Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen or trading down, this certainly changes things. It’s likely nothing happens with Jason Campbell until draft day, as a couple of the teams interested have a shot at draft a quarterback early. There is a nice situation that could occur for the Jaguars however, if their interest is serious.
The first question you have to ask when looking at their interest in Jason Campbell is; Is he better than David Garrard?
I don’t think you can give anything more than a “maybe”. Sure, if you were to just ask people and not show them the numbers, most would say absolutely lot. I like to look into the numbers, though. We’ll compare the last two seasons of Jason Campbell and David Garrard and see just how far apart they are. I understand that in 2007 Garrard would dwarf Campbell, but 2007 was essentially Campbell’s first full-time season starting.
