Vegetables prices drop as Karachi tense

KARACHI: The prices of vegetables in vegetable market go down due to tension prevailed in Karachi.

Talking to Geo News, Deputy Secretary of Welfare Association of Wholesale Vegetable Market Haji Javed told Geo News that because of deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, vegetables prices have plunged and today tomato is available at Rs. 35 to 40, potato, onion, lady finger is at Rs.20 and palak is at Rs5 per kg.

LB polls schedule to be announced before Aug 22: Punjab govt

LAHORE: Punjab government has assured Lahore High Court that schedule for local bodies election will be announced before August 22.

Additional advocate general Punjab on behalf of Punjab government during hearing of petitions filed by local council association and former Nazims against delay in local bodies elections made the assurance.

The petitions stated that delay in local bodies elections is an open violation of constitution. The lawyer of government in today’s hearing informed the court that 17-member committee has been constituted for the arrangements of local bodies polls and date will be announced before next hearing.

PM directs rules be followed on degrees issue

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani directed Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman to follow the rules and regulations in connection with the verification of degrees, Geo News reported Monday.

The PM held a 45-minute tete-e-tete with Dr Javed Leghari, the HEC chairman here.

According to sources, the HEC chief briefed the PM regarding the development in verification of degrees.

He also primed the PM about the pressure he and his family received, as some universities did not cooperate in the process.

According to official statement, Dr Javed Leghari also briefed the premier about the ongoing projects of the HEC and its financial condition.

The PM also directed him to hold meetings with the concerned ministries to expedite the on time completion of current projects.

The HEC sources said the PM assured Dr Javed Leghari of his cooperation and urged him not to capitulate to any pressure in connection with the degrees verification.

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission Javed Leghari met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at Prime Minister’s Secretariat here on Monday and briefed him about confirmation of the degrees of the parliamentarians in detail.

Militant Captured With 120 Kg Explosives

SARGODHA, PAKISTAN: An alleged terrorist has been arrested from Kandian area of Sargodha, Geo News quoted DIG as saying Wednesday.

RPO Javed Islam said the arrested terrorist belong to Miranshah.

The DIG said 120 kilogram of explosives have been recovered from the terrorist.
