Traders’ leader shot injured in Karachi, people block road in protest
KARACHI: Some unknown armed attackers shot injured a leader of the traders on M.A. Jinnah Road here on Tuesday; angry people torched tyres and blocked the road while protesting against the armed attack on a fellow businessman and market leader.
The protesting traders have informed that every now and then the criminal extortionists create troubles for them and distribute chits for extortion money; despite regular complains the law and order enforcement agencies have failed to tackle those culprits.
They added that today some identified armed attackers shot injured the President of Spare Parts Market, Salim Memon, for not paying extortion money.
Angry traders closed all markets and torched tyres to block M.A Jinnah Road for expressing their displeasure over the armed attack on a fellow trader and market leader.
The traders continued their protest and kept M.A. Jinnah Road blocked for more than one hour. After intervention of the local MPA and assurance from the high officials of the police for tackling the culprits the protesters spread away.
After disappearance of the protestors the police and rangers resumed the traffic. TrendPK

KARACHI: After the funeral of Mutahida Qaumi Movement’s slain leader, Dr. Imran Farooq, on Saturday, the traffic was very thin and petrol pumps remained closed on the second day of mourning in the metropolis.
According to details, the petrol pumps of M.A.Jinnah Road, Liaqatabad, Kharadar, Mithadar, Azizabad, Nazimabad, Federal-B Area and many other parts of the city were kept closed while most of the roads also remained vacant.

Quetta shut to protest Nur Mengals murder
A shutter-down strike is being observed throughout Balochistan, including the capital Quetta, against the assassination of BNP leader Nurud Din Mengal.The strike call was given by Baloch National Party.
On Wednesday, unidentified armed men gunned down central leader of the BNP-M, Mir Noor-ud-din Mengal in Kalat.
Mengal was a member of the central executive committee of his party. All the markets at Jinnah Road, Saryab Road, Brori Road, Jail Road, Sabzal Road and Qambrani Road remained shut.
Heavy contingents of police are deployed at all the important places. Mastung, Khuzdar, Mangchar, Wadh , Lasbella, Hub, Noshki, Dalbadin, Turbat Mand, Gawadar, Mach and other areas also observed strike.
Surveillance cameras on major roads in Karachi off

KARACHI: The surveillance cameras on major roads of the city have been switched off for last three days due to replacement of the contractor.
These cameras are installed on more than 40 major spots to monitor traffic accidents and terrorist activities. The roads include M.A. Jinnah Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Defence and Clifton.

May 12 perpetrators, victims both in govt: Aitzaz
ISLAMABAD: Former President Supreme Court Bar Aitzaz Ahsan has said those responsible for May 12 tragedy and victims both are part of government.
Talking to media, Aitzaz said investigations for May 12 carnage will be started even now. Replying to a question regarding restoration of Swiss cases, he said government should write a letter to Swiss officials. The Swiss government and courts will likely not take any action on it. He said arrest of Benazir’s killers is a responsibility of government and if it will not happen, workers of Peoples Party will react aggressively.
May 12 mayhem: Lawyers stage sit-in, hold rally
KARACHI: The lawyers on Wednesday boycotted court proceeding and took out a rally from Karachi City Court to M A Jinnah Road to commemorate the martyrs of May 12 carnage.
Responding to the call of Sindh Bar Council, all city courts wore a deserted look due to the lawyers’ protest. The prisoners were not brought to the courts for hearing.
Mahmud ul Hasan President Karachi Bar Association, Rashid A Rizvi President SHBA, Salahuddin General Secretary KBA and others addressed the general body’s meeting.
The speakers said everybody knows that both killers and victims are sitting together in the government. They also expressed their disappointment at the government as well as Supreme Court about investigation of May 12 carnage.
The lawyers’ leaders called for a fresh inquiry of May 12 incident from any other court instead of Sindh High Court on the footsteps of Indian Supreme Court, which had held an inquiry into Gujrat riots.
The Karachi Bar passed a unanimous resolution, announcing that fresh application would be submitted in the Supreme Court about reopening of May 12 inquiry.
Following the meeting, the lawyers took out a rally and staged a sit-in.
Eight including DSP, cameraman killed in Quetta blast
QUETTA: The death toll in Quetta Civil Hospital blast has been raised to eight. DSP headquarters Zahir Shah Kazmi and a cameraman of a private channel also among the deceased.
Earlier, a bank official Arshad Zaidi was severely shot and wounded at Mannan chowk who was brought to Civil Hospital at Jinnah Road where he was succumbed to injuries. Large number of people was gathered at this occasion when the blast occurred. The blast damaged the emergency department and nearby buildings. Emergency has been imposed in the hospital and FC has cordoned off the area after the blast.
DIG Investigations Quetta has confirmed that eight people have been killed and 35 wounded in the blast. PPP MPA Agha Nasir Shah also sustained injuries in the blast.
Talking to media DIG Investigations Quetta Qazi Abdul Wahid said a suspected head and an arm have been recovered from the blast site. He said it could be a suicide blast.
Karachi Unrest: Three Buses Put On Fire

KARACHI PAKISTAN : Some unidentified people set three buses alight on Thursday morning to protest the murders of four MQM (H) members the other day, which sparked unrest in the metropolitan.
Chaos enveloped parts of the city while buses were being torched at Natha Khan Pul, MA Jinnah Road and Kala Pul in Defence.
However, police said that no life loss was occurred.
Crackdown in Karachi Soon: Rehman Malik
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said crackdown against illegal immigrants will be launched soon in Karachi.
Talking to media after appearing in National Accountability court Malik has asked the illegal foreigners to leave within 15 days after this deadline they will be deported. He said Karachi will be cleared like Swat.
He said inquiry has been ordered for yesterday’s killing in Lyari. About blast occurred today in Karachi, he said the blast happened in a house of man identified as Riaz who shifted to Karachi from Swat two years back.
Malik said landlord across the country have been directed to inform police before giving their property on rent. Police strength will be increased in Karachi. One report on MA Jinnah Road incident has been received whereas another is in last stages, he added.
