U.S. moves WikiLeaks soldier Manning to Kansas jail

WASHINGTON: The Obama administration, under criticism for its treatment of the U.S. soldier accused of leaking secret documents that appeared on the WikiLeaks website, is transferring the detainee to a Kansas jail.

Jeh Johnson, the Pentagon’s general counsel, said on Tuesday that Bradley Manning was being moved from a Marine base in Quantico, Virginia, to a detention facility at the Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas military base.

“Given the length of time he’s been in pretrial confinement at Quantico … and given what the likely period of pretrial confinement in the future … we reached the judgment this would be the right facility for him,” Johnson told reporters in a hastily announced briefing at the Pentagon.

Officials declined to say when the transfer would take place but suggested it would be soon.

Manning is being held during the investigation of charges involving reams of sensitive diplomatic and military documents he is accused of leaking while posted as an intelligence analyst in Iraq.

The documents’ publication on the WikiLeaks website was a blow to U.S. diplomacy as allies and adversaries saw themselves mocked or second-guessed in secret diplomatic cables.

U.S. military officials did not say when Manning’s trial might begin. “We are probably months off from a trial,” Johnson said.

Manning’s lawyers have complained that the 23-year-old soldier was mistreated at the Virginia Marine brig.

Kept alone in his cell 23 hours per day, the Pentagon said he had been forced to sleep naked and woken repeatedly during the night to ensure he is safe. The Pentagon said this had happened only a few times.
Last month, President Barack Obama said he had been assured by the Pentagon that Manning’s treatment was appropriate.

Manning will be placed in a single cell in Ft. Leavenworth, officials said, but said he would not receive abusive treatment.

Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan Fight

Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan Fight, “They’re just very competitive, I mean, two Pro Bowl players that expect a lot out of each other,” Texans Coach Gary Kubiak said, “and before the day is over they get kind of tired of each other. I just think it’s a great battle. That’s what our business is about. You know, you don’t want things to get out of control like that, though. Two great players that need to be on the field, not off the field.”

f82561bc47Video.jpg Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan FightLike Kubiak, Tennessee Coach Jeff Fisher downplayed the incident.

“I didn’t think, based on what I saw and what I’m being told, that Cortland deserved to be kicked out of the game,” he said. “I’m sure they’ll handle that at the league level.” Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison cited Tennessee’s penchant for provoking opponents on “Football Night in America.”

“He’s one of the nicest guys in the league,” Dungy said of Johnson, “but I’ll tell you when I was at Indy, we played against Tennessee twice a year. I always warned my players, ‘You have to keep your cool, especially against Cortland Finnegan. He’s going to try to get on your nerves.’ ”

Harrison, who suffered a knee injury playing against Tennessee: “Well, coach, this is no surprise to me. This team … this is their personality. They’re dirty, they’re cheap and whenever we played this team, the coaches would always say, ‘Guys, beware. They’re gonna take a cheap shot at you. They’re gonna try to provoke you into doing something.’ “

All of which Capello has to consider before including him against the USA. He might prefer starting Jamie Carragher, a defender who has no illusions after 15 years in the business.

Against Japan, Johnson was unable to challenge as Marcus Tulio Tanaka fronted him with ease to score from a corner. Then he pushed down a Platinum Star player in the box 111 316808 Dempsey2 clint dempseyfor a penalty. There is enough footage from his Liverpool matches to show that Johnson loses composure when pressured.

Bob Bradley might put Dempsey out left and Donovan down the right in key match ups against Johnson and Ashley Cole. And Deuce does fancy his chances:

“Glen Johnson is a good player and very effective going forward,” he claimed. “But when he gets forward we have a chance to hit England on the counter and give them something to worry about. There will be holes in the pocket he leaves open. We have to be aware of that. Both their full-backs like to attack. But there is a risk involved in Ashley Cole and Johnson pushing forward which could make them vulnerable.”

Eric Eustace Williams (25 September 1911 – 29 March 1981) was the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. He served from 1956 until his death in 1981. He was also a noted Caribbean historian.

He won an island scholarship in 1932 which allowed him to attend St Catherine’s Society, Oxford (which later became St Catherine’s College), where he was ranked first in the First Class of Oxford students graduating in History in 1935, while representing the university in soccer. In Inward Hunger, his autobiography, he described his experience of racism in Britain, and the impact on him of his travels in Germany after the Nazi seizure of power.

His doctoral thesis, The Economic Aspects of the Abolition of the Slave Trade and West Indian Slavery, was both a direct attack on the idea that moral and humanitarian motives were the key facts in the victory of British abolitionism, and a covert critique of the idea common in the 1930s, emanating in particular from the pen of Oxford Professor Reginald Coupland, that British imperialism was essentially propelled by humanitarian and benevolent impulses. Williams’s argument owed much to the influence of C. L. R. James, whose The Black Jacobins, also completed in 1938, also offered an economic and geostrategic explanation for the rise of British abolitionism.

The 1961 elections gave the PNM 57% of the votes and 20 of the 30 seats. This two-thirds majority allowed them to draft the Independence Constitution without input from the DLP. Although supported by the Colonial Office, independence was blocked by the DLP, until Williams was able to make a deal with DLP leader Rudranath Capildeo which strengthened the rights of the minority party and expanded the number of Opposition Senators. With Capildeo’s assent, Trinidad and Tobago became independent on August 31, 1962.

Former Olympian and celebrated American sprinter Michael Duane Johnson quits reality TV show Celebrity Apprentice to attend personal matters. Donald Trump said that Johnson is free to comeback once he settled everything into place. It might be the first for the Donald since he has a record for despising quitters – for him quitters are losers. Well, perhaps Johnson did have a very convincing reason for Trump to give him another chance.
Johnson’s team – Rock Solid – managed to secure their first win for the season after 3 straight loss from the women. The task was to create a commercial for Right Guard Total Defense deodorant. On the other hand, the women’s team – Tenacity – suffered their first loss sending 3 group members to the board room. Among them were Holly Robinson Peete, WWE star Maria Kanellis and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks.

The Donald grilled the 3 and finally decided that it was Selita Ebanks who should leave Trump Tower. Perhaps it was another shocker for those who are new to watching this reality business show since Ebanks led her team to victory last week. Trump always want to see more than that. He wants to see a fighter in you – which unfortunately Ebanks didn’t show during the boardroom.

Selita Ebanks was the first from the Team Tenacity to hear the dreaded word “your fired!” from Donald Trump. For sure, the succeeding episodes will be more exciting.
