Nawaz calls for joint efforts against terrorism

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday called for joint efforts to combat the menace of terrorism in the country.
Addressing Sialkot Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Nawaz said, Joint efforts are needed to eliminate terrorism and unemployment in the country.
Nawaz said that Musharraf should be held accountable for every misdeed he committed. He said that only 5 percent duty should be imposed on import and export, and lamented over the debate about imminence of martial law. He maintained that the government has not done anything remarkable in its two and a half year tenure so far. Nawaz said that one-man show in the country has unleashed problems in the country.

Action against terrorists in Punjab vital: Iftikhar

PESHAWAR: Information Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhaw Mian Iftikhar Hussain said terrorists in Punjab carrying out terror activities and this conspiracy should be curbed unitedly regardless of sects.

Talking to media here, Mian Iftikhar said terrorists are neither Pathan nor Punjabi, however, terrorist centers and their mentors are present in Punjab. He urged the Punjab government to be more focused on terrorism as the activities in the name of Bralvi and Duobandi sects posing great threat.

Provincial information minister said Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif is willing to curb terrorism. He said terrorism would be eliminated through joint efforts of all the provinces and institutions.

Iftikhar dubbed the authorities given by18th amendment to provinces as revolutionary and said it will be show positive results in future.

Twelve Americans held in Yemen: State Department

WASHINGTON: Twelve US citizens have been detained in Yemen, US State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters here Monday, following reports of foreigners arrested with links to Al-Qaeda.

“I”m not going to get into any specifics,” Crowley said at a briefing where he was queried by journalists about the alleged links to the extremist group. The spokesman added words of praise for the two governments” joint efforts against terrorism.

“We have great cooperation with the government of Yemen,” Crowley said. “Together we are doing our best to help Yemen reduce the threat posed by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.”

Talking to media men in Lahore, Nawaz said he has also talked with the prime minister to expose the people which had written off loans.

He said violation of the constitution and the law has created problems. He said law and order and economic woes are the major problems of Pakistan.

Former prime minister said only government is not responsible for poverty alleviation and economic problems and called for joint efforts to deal the problems.
