1475 People Lost Their Lives in Flash Floods: Kaira
Pakistan News: Federal Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira informed that the government and the Army is actively involve in building temporary bridges to restore the road links which were washed away due to recent flash floods.
He was speaking at press conference in Islamabad where he said that the federal government has accumulated vaccination to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases. He added that 1475 people lost their lives, over 2052 people were injured while at least 970,520 houses were destroyed.
Kaira informed that as many as 73 helicopters were participating in the relief operations.

Pakistan News: The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has announced that the Federal Cabinet has given green signal to three development projects that depend on Financial Aid. He also announced that Salaries of Officers of the Armed forces have been raised by 15% while the salaries of Soldiers of the Armed forces have been raised by 20%. Asian development bank RPP report was presented in the cabinet meeting. A new Power Plant to be established in Guddu.
Kaira was speaking at a post cabinet meeting press conference he said that the Cabinet was also given a review regarding supply of Sugar in the country. Utility stores would provide sugar at discounted prices. Due to lack of Sugar Cane crop, country is facing an acute shortage of 1.2 million tons of sugar. TCP has been order to import of half million tons of sugar immediately. 3 million tons of wheat stock expected to remain by the end of the year.
The Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin gave briefing on state of the Economy, he also informed that Imports have reduced by 3%, while textile export have shown increase. According to him Quetta Police salary issue had been resolved. Foreign Exchange Reserves have reached to $ 15.9 billion. Current account deficit have improved by 78%.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that enforcement of NRO verdict is being directed as per the directives of Prime Minister Gilani.
Talking to media outside National Assembly, Kaira assured that confrontation would not arise among the institutions, and added that the government believed in freedom of judiciary.
The minister said that the country did not afford any clash and urged the lawyers should also avoid the same after assurance on government’s part, adding that the reservation of the blackcoats must have some base. Hailing the national cricket team, Kaira deplored the attitude being meted out to the team during IPL auction.

Lahore, Pakistan:- Pakistan’s Nuclear Weapons Are Safe: Kaira, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that Pakistan’s atomic arsenal is safe and secure; and terrorists would be wiped out. Giving a briefing to media after Cabinet meeting in Islamabad, he said that Pakistan will not allow any terrorist to use its soil for terrorism purposes.
He said that terrorists want to demoralize and defame Pakistan in which they could not be successful. He said that Senator John Kerry in his 2-day visit to the country fully assured that the US honours Pakistan’s sovereignty, and the US wants to strengthen Pakistan’s economy through a non-military aid in the form of Kerry-Lugar Bill. He said that PM Gilani in the meeting condemned the killings of innocent people in an attack in Iran and he ensured Iran government to fully support in this regard. He said that Pakistan wants good relations with its neighbours.
The PM told in the meeting that Pakistan’s reserves have reached at 14-15 billion dollars and inflation would be decreased to single digit, Kaira told. The PM also briefed the Cabinet meeting about his recent visits to China in which China assured to support Pakistan in security and defence, Kaira said.

Punjab shows flexibility in National Finance Commission ( NFC ) meeting
QUETTA , Pakistan – Punjab shows flexibility in National Finance Commission ( NFC ) meeting, National Finance Commission (NFC) has agreed to award revenues generated through General Sales Tax (GST) on Services to provinces, which will result in additional revenue of 60 billion rupees for the provinces.
Punjab Finance Minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira stated this while briefing the newsmen after NFC’s first day session in the provincial capital, which met with Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tareen in chair.
Provincial Finance Ministers Tanveer Ashraf Kaira (Punjab), Muhammad Hamayun Khan (NWFP) and Asim Kurd Gailoo (Balochistan) along with other federal and provincial government officials attended the meeting.
Terming the decision regarding the GST on Services a big progress, Tanveer Ashraf Kaira said the provincial governments, particularly Sindh, had reservations on the issue because the federal govt was receiving the tax unconstitutionally.
He said after the expert opinion, the federal government accepted the GST on Services as a provincial right and in future would be given to the provinces.
Replying to a question, he said the federal govt would continue its collection as practiced in the past, but later on, would transfer the amount to the provinces.
Kaira said the agenda was comprised of three points: vertical and horizontal distribution of resources, GST on Services and Gas Development Surcharge (GDS), adding that issues of GST on Services and GDS were discussed Monday’s session and a consensus was reached on the first one.
As far as GDS was concerned, the committee, which was formed in the last session, submitted its report, Kaira informed the journalists.
