Karan Johar is kick starting his next directorial outing sooner than expected. Though he had made it pretty obvious that after his heavy duty My Name Is Khan, he would be changing gears to get into a far more comfortable zone, there were still speculations around what would be bringing on floors. The closest that one expected was a rom-com on the lines of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, his debut film.

Meanwhile there were rumours that kick-started about him launching Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan) and Alia Bhatt (daughter of Mahesh Bhatt). However, since there wasn’t any formal announcement from the man at the hot seat, one still waited with bated breath to know about his plans.

Well, the wait is over now with Karan Johar making it all official. He is all set to direct a young tale which is titled Student of The Year. The film would launch not two but three newcomers which include Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and also Siddharth Malhotra (who is different from the namesake director who recently made We Are Family.

Talking about the film, Karan Johar says, “Student of the Year will have everything that I love about movies. It will have songs, dances, happiness, fun and frolic all around.”

One does understand where Karan is coming from. After all not just My Name Is Khan but even his previous outing Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was a relatively seriously film. Though there were songs and dances in the film, at the core of it the film was about adult relationships. Even earlier his Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham had a massive look and feel to it with six heavy duty superstars coming together in one frame.

However, with Student of the Year, Karan Johar could well be bringing to fore the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai era, albeit in the 21st century avtar. Also, though he has worked with Shah Rukh Khan as an actor in each of his four films so far, he has no hesitation in making Student of the Year with rank newcomers.

“See, I may be looking at getting into a holiday zone with this film, especially after My Name Is Khan, but by no means would I not be working hard on it”, says Karan in his characteristic tone, “Yes, it’s a happy song and dance film with the tone and syntax being that of a holiday outing. Still from emotional energy perspective, the entire team will go all out to make it one super cool young flick.”

The name Shah Rukh Khan would still be involved in the film as Student Of The Year would be a joint presentation by him along with Karan Johar.

He came, he saw… but, he just couldn’t conquer! We are referring to the ironic situation of the VJ-turned actor Purab Kohli; despite having the gorgeous Deepika Padukone as his neighbour, he just couldn’t get his feelings across to her. No…. even before you can get into the layer of things, let us tell you that, the aforementioned was the ‘plot’ of the ongoing Nescafe series.

Well, as they say, the plot gets thicker. And the thickness now lies in the fact, that, now besides Deepika, Purab will now be joined by none other than the master filmmaker Karan Johar, according to Bollywood Hungama’s confirmed sources. The same source also added that the trio has even shot for the ad that shows Karan walking into Deepika’s house, even as Purab is trying hard to impress her. Despite knowing the fact that ‘he’ is Karan Johar, Purab pretends not to know him and hence starts asking him about his profession like ‘Are you a badminton player?” etc…

With KJo joining the gang, sipping coffee (or is it ‘Koffee’ now?), will just get even more stimulating. What say, folks!

Karan Johar might just win the award of “revelation king” what with so many secrets and speculations are brought to rest, and beans that were spilled on his show. Be it Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s break-up story or Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor’s affair, even Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka’s mutually animosity, it all came oozing out on ‘Koffee With Karan’.

And now with Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi making an appearance at the show as a couple, some interesting news is up for grabs as well. Lara and Mahesh have made a statement on the show that two will tie the knot in February; as for the date their families are busy fixing it.

There were lots of discussions about the marriage plans as the two looked clearly in love. As for the gossip part of it, lots of discussions took place on the past affairs, relationships and the link ups, a la Karan style.

Another Bollywood wedding waits in the coming New Year, and many a heart will break with Lara tying the knot.

Only last week we informed you about Karan Johar and SRK launching two newcomers namely Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan) and Sidharth Malhotra in their next co-production.

Now the buzz is that besides the two debutant leading men, yet another newcomer is being launched in this project. The girl in question is Alia (younger daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan) and in all probability she is the lucky one to have bagged this plum project.

The film is a love triangle with both the new boys vying for Alia’s attention.

Must say that the coming year is surely going to witness a lot of fresh talent.

One film that has been in the news ever since its announcement has been the remake of Agneepath to be directed by debutant Karan Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

By now its common knowledge that Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra star in the lead roles of this eagerly anticipated remake. However, the latest development is that besides Hrithik and Priyanka, Sanjay Dutt has also been signed for the film. Apparently, Sanjay would be playing the main villain in the remake (a role played by Danny Denzongpa in the original version)

It may be recalled that Hrithik and Sanju did clash with each other on-screen in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Mission Kashmir almost 10 years ago. Now with Hrithik playing the hero and Sanju the villain, it would be interesting to witness this clash all over again.

Karan Johar has a penchant for spotting talent. After all, he has launched many-a-talented directors in the recent past. Now, Karan along with good pal Shah Rukh Khan is all set to launch actors Varun Dhawan (younger son of director David Dhawan) and Sidharth Malhotra (not to be confused with director Siddharth P Malhotra) in a new project.

While the project will be co-produced by Karan’s Dharma Productions and SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment, the director of this venture is yet to be finalised.

Incidentally, both the newcomers Varun and Sidharth worked as Assistant Directors in Karan’s My Name Is Khan.

Must say that this is indeed a dream launch pad for the two new kids on the block.

The exclusive idea for Karan Johar’s next directorial venture is finally in place, thanks to his unscheduled time off due to a sudden bout of malaria.

Because of the illness, Karan had the time to ponder deeply over what he wants to direct next. After months of a mental block, Karan has finally zeroed in on the subject that he wants to take on next.

And here’s the arresting news: after My Name Is Khan, Karan will direct a full-on fun film filled with music and songs…lip-sync songs which were missing in Khan.

Weak but back with his sharp tongue, Karan says, “I suppose out of every setback some good is bound to happen. So yes, that elusive idea for my next film for which I had even taken time off to be in New York but came back empty-brained, is finally locked in.”
Karan has decided to make a complete departure from the mood of his last film My Name Is Khan. He will now make a full-on masti musical with at least 10 songs.

Says the excited director, “I don’t think I should be talking about it so soon. But I can’t help it. Yes, after a serious film like Khan, I am moving into the fun zone. I am doing a fun-and-frolic film. I don’t care if ‘frolic’ is too frivolous a word. That’s what I am doing in my next.”

Significantly, Karan’s next is going to be full-on musical. Says the director, “In My Name Is Khan, I couldn’t have my protagonist singing on screen. Though I’m very proud of its songs, I somehow feel deprived when I don’t do full-on lip-sync songs. My next will be a full-fledged musical with the characters singing away on screen. At the moment that’s all I can tell you.”

On Saturday evening, Karan had the Big B over for dinner. Would it be correct to assume that the mega-star would feature in Karan’s next directorial venture?

At the moment, all one can assume is that Shah Rukh Khan will definitely be a part of Karan’s masti-bhari musical.

Says Karan, “Amitji just came home for a conversation, dinner and an evening with me and my mother. Every time I speak to him, I feel blessed. I’m very fortunate to have not just known him but also worked with him. Of course I’d love to work with him again and with Abhishek.”

Karan intends to invite Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan as solo guests on this season of Koffee With Karan.

“With them, there’s no combination that makes any sense any more,” opines Karan.
After 9 days of no-work, Karan will now get back to shooting episodes of his new talk show Koffee With Karan which went on air on Sunday.

Sighs the filmmaker-turned-talkshow-host, “Fortunately, I had shot four episodes before I fell ill. So there’s a bank. I’m proud of what I’ve shot so far. People talk about Imran Khan-Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor-Deepika Padukone being rivals. On my show they got along so well!”

Interestingly, Deepika is said to have confirmed on Karan’s show that it was Ranbir Kapoor whom she had accused of two-timing in print.

Says Karan, “I’m not saying anything. Just watch my show.”

Karan Johar’s illness has put a cloud over Shah Rukh’s birthday celebrations. The star who turns a year older today (November 2) has never celebrated a single birthday in the last 15 years without his friend.
Says a very close friend of both SRK and Karan, “No matter which part of the world Shah Rukh is in, Karan makes sure he joins his friend for his birthday. Shah Rukh just doesn’t feel this birthday should be celebrated without Karan.”
Shah Rukh Khan flew to Rome from Berlin with his son and nephew (wife Gauri’s brother’s son) only to find out that his buddy and producer-director Karan Johar was missing from the event at the Rome International Film Festival, where My Name Is Khan was to be screened.
Sleepless and jetlagged, Shah Rukh was suddenly told he had to handle double the number of media interviews he was originally scheduled to do.
Says a source, “Suddenly Shah Rukh was asked to also handle all the press that was lined up for Karan. As it is Kajol could not be in Rome because of her baby. On top of that Karan suddenly fell ill. The My Name Is Khan co-producers and worldwide distributors’ Fox-Star thought of cancelling all the press and just go with the screening of the film. But Shah Rukh insisted on doing all the press by himself.”
Vijay Singh the CEO of Fox-Star Studio is wonderstruck by King Khan’s proficiency. “Karan’s inability to attend the International Film Festival at Rome was a setback. Shah Rukh just saved the day. We had this grand red-carpet screening of My Name Is Khan and loads of press. Shah Rukh handled it all without skipping a beat.”
Shah Rukh has returned to Berlin without Karan Johar who was supposed to accompany him. The celebrations are expected to be low-key, if not completely done away with.

Karan Johar on why Hrithik and not Abhishek for Agneepath remake

It’s official. Karan Johar finally admits it is Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra in the Agneepath remake.
Speaking officially for the first time about the casting of the Agneepath remake, Karan Johar coolly and cleverly passes on the buck to his newbie director Karan Malhotra for Abhishek Bachchan’s non-presence in the remake…a casting digression that jolted everyone who thought Abhishek was a natural and inevitable inheritor of the Agneepath role.
Says Karan Johar, “When my father (the late Yash Johar) produced Agneepath, he left everything to his director Mukul Anand and kept completely away from the project. I’m carrying on the family tradition. The casting for the Agneepath remake was decided by the director Karan Malhotra. He decided on Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. Why Hrithik and not Abhishek? I think Siddharth has his own ideas on how to present the character. I think the protagonist in the new Agneepath would be very different from how he was in the original.”
The script for the new Agneepath is also entirely re-vamped. Priyanka Chopra won’t play a nurse, like Madhvi had done in the original. And the Mithun Chakraborty’s character from the original has been done away with completely.
If there was any tension about the Bachchan’s scion, Abhishek not even been approached for the remake of Agneepath, it was wiped away last week at the haute couture week where it was crystal-clear in public that the Bachchans still treated Karan as part of their family.
Last Wednesday, at Manish Malhotra’s fashion show Abhishek, more baffled than hurt by not even asked to do the Agneepath remake, walked up and warmly hugged Karan. The following evening on Thursday, Karan coaxed the original Agneepath protagonist Big B to walk the ramp with star of the remake Hrithik Roshan, thereby putting an end to all speculation within the film industry about a strain between the Bachchan parivar and Karan over the Agneepath issue.
Says Karan emotionally, “The Bachchans and my family go back a long way. Our association is not on a film-to-film basis. It doesn’t matter how many films we work in or don’t work in. For the record, I will be doing at least ten more films with Abhishek in my lifetime. He’s already done two films with our banner Dharma Productions. He’s doing Dostana 2 next year.”

Anil Kapoor will be seen as Indian Playboy in Mission: Impossible 4

There’s something phenomenal about this man called Anil Kapoor. Else, how would you explain the fact that even at the age when he is supposed to be playing father’s roles to heroines, he is one of the most sought after actor (read ‘hero’) in Bollywood…

Well, the histrionics of the global phenomenon (he can be called so, courtesy Slumdog Millionaire) doesn’t end there. Not too long ago we had reported that Anil was approached for a prominent role in the hit action series Mission: Impossible for its fourth installment. Though at that time, details of his role were a bit sketchy and with no confirmation from the studio or the actor’s end, it was rumoured that he would play either the villain or a major supporting role. However, now it is learnt that his role in MI4 will feature him playing the role of an Indian playboy called Brij Nath, who is armed with international connections in high places al la the original Playboy Huge Hefner! News is also afloat that Anil, who will be having some steamy scenes with Paula Patton, will be shooting for the film from next month in Dubai.

On the ‘desi’ front, market is abuzz with the rumor that Anil will be seen in a negative character in Priyadarshan’s forthcoming thriller flick Tezz. Well, this man’s ‘roll’ does not end there, for rumor also has it that Anil might also star in Vikramaditya Motwane’s next which it to be produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap.
