Regional Mexican fans are stunned at the news of the break up of Los Horoscopos De Durango, one of the most consolidated groups in the genre. The group founded by Armando Terrazas had recently celebrated its 35 years of existence. Los Horoscopos de Durango was one of the most important acts in the Duranguense subgenre, which originated in Chicago in the ’90s and exploded in popularity in 2002.
Terrazas, leader and owner of the group, retired a couple of years ago leaving the group in the hands of his two daughters, Marisol and Vicky Terrazas. Their biggest hits ‘Antes Muerta Que Sencilla’ and ‘Dos Locos’ made the group distinctive, mostly because it is rare to see female vocalists in Regional Mexican music. For many years, tabloids and fans speculated thaf the sisters’ did not get along. Many even claimed to see them struggling to stand out and take the lead, something very conflicting considering they were both vocalists. Their record label has confirmed that indeed, the differences between them were too strong for the Grammy winning group to go on.

While nearly everyone else who represents New York City in Washington has backed away from the idea of trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other 9/11 plotters in Gotham, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that he’s still supportive of the idea.
“I believe that law enforcement should transcend politics,” Weiner said at House Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General Eric Holder. “That has led me to support you and your decision to hold the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in the Southern District, where we have perhaps the best prosecutors anywhere in the world, the most experienced at prosecuting terrorism cases. Judges, court officers who know their business.”
Weiner’s comments surprised some observers, particularly in the wake of the attempted bombing in Times Square–an event which caused enough jitters that many now consider a New York 9/11 trial a political impossibility. However, Weiner’s remarks shouldn’t come as a shock since he has said before that there was too much fearfulness about a trial.
“I think we all sound frightened and scared,” he told MSNBC in January. “We’re a strong country. We’re a confident country. This whole debate makes us sound like we’re flinching and scared.”

US President Barack Obama said on Sunday he did not rule out trying September 11 suspect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York City despite local opposition, but noted tough logistical questions involved.
“I have not ruled it out, but I think it is important for us to take into account the practical logistical issues involved,” Obama said in an interview.
“If you have got a city that is saying no, and a police department that is saying no, and a mayor that is saying no, that makes it difficult,” Obama said. But he added, “We have not ruled out anything.”

WASHINGTON: Latest news about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, President Barack Obama said the September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be put on trial in New York City.
Speaking in Tokyo, Mr. Obama said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed organiser of the al-Qaeda terrorist plot that killed almost 3,000 people in 2001, would face “exacting” US justice.
Bringing such notorious suspects to US soil to face trial would be a key step in Mr. Obama’s plan to close the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.
Mr. Obama initially planned to close the centre at the US naval base on Cuba by Jan 22 next year, but his administration is no longer expected to meet that deadline.
It is also a major legal and political test of Mr. Obama’s overall approach to terrorism. If the case suffers legal setbacks, the administration will face second-guessing from those who never wanted it in a civilian courtroom.
The New York case may force the court system to confront a host of difficult legal issues surrounding counter-terrorism programmes begun after the 2001 attacks, including the harsh interrogation techniques once used on some of the suspects while in CIA custody. The most severe method – waterboarding, or simulated drowning – was used on Mohammed 183 times in 2003, before the practice was banned.
The US attorney general Eric Holder is due to annonce that a major suspect in the bombing of the USS Cole, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, will face justice before a military commission, as will a handful of other detainees to be identified at the same announcement, an official said.
The transfer of the detainees from Guantanamo to New York is not expected to happen for many more weeks because formal charges have not been filed against most of them.
