1dc50c2b13tralia Pakistan Humiliated by Series Whitewash in AustraliaHOBART: Nathan Hauritz rounded off an outstanding summer by bowling Australia to a Test victory for the third successive occasion as the home side completed a record-equalling 12th successive win against Pakistan at Bellerive Oval on Monday.

Watch Live Cricket

Australia needed until only an hour after lunch to bowl Pakistan out for 206 as the visitors never threatened to get anywhere near their record victory target of 438 and lost by 231 runs.

Only recalled number three batsman Khurram Manzoor offered any resistance on the final day with a gutsy half-century to make amends for his first-innings duck.

The result secured a fourth successive 3-0 clean sweep of Pakistan by Australia in a Test series and equals the record for most successive Test wins by any team against the same opponent in Test history – 12, which was held solely by Sri Lanka against Bangladesh.

And it means Australia have now won five of six Tests this summer – with only a draw in the second Test against the West Indies in Adelaide preventing a clean sweep of a summer in which Hauritz came of age as well as all-rounder Shane Watson who was adjudged player of the series.

After taking his first five-wicket hauls in the second innings of Australia’s wins in Melbourne and Sydney, Hauritz helped himself to three more on the final day in Hobart to finish with an impressive 29 wickets in six Tests for the summer.

Hauritz’s haul on the final day also included the key wicket of Manzoor, who, after being recalled to the team for this Test after being overlooked for Pakistan’s defeats in Melbourne and Sydney, batted through the entire two-and-a-half-hour first session as play began 30 minutes early to make up for play lost on day four.

Australian paceman Peter Siddle breaks through, claiming two wickets in four balls to put his team on top close to the end of play on the second day off the Third Test. After a 63-run opening stand, the Victorian claimed Imran Farhat caught behind by Brad Haddin for 38. It was Haddin’s 100th dismissal in Test cricket. Just four balls later, Siddle induced a slash outside off-stump from Khurram Manzoor, who edged the ball to Ricky Ponting at second slip to be dismissed for a duck.

Later, two run outs put Pakistan into deep trouble. First captain Mohammad Yousuf was out taking third run from his off-drive and then young Umar Akmal was also runout. Yousuf made seven and Umar got eight with the help of two fours in an over.

However, opener Salman Butt still holds one end making a patient 34 while Shoaib Malik batting on four when the second day’s play ended.

Australian Caption Ricky Ponting has declared the innings at 519 at the loss of 8 wickets.

Legspinner Danish Kaneria captured three wickets for 189 runs, while fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir grabbed two wickets each and Umar Gul took one wicket.

Pakistan has dropped wicket-keeper and vice captain Kamran Akmal and made three other changes ahead of the third Test against Australia in Hobart.

Akmal has been replaced by rookie ‘keeper Safraz Ahmed after a bizarre standoff between the vice captain and selectors, with Akmal repeatedly insisting his place in the team was safe.

The gloveman – who dropped four catches as Australia pulled off a miraculous victory at the SCG last week – was forced to ‘drop himself’ as he is part of Paksitan’s four-man selection panel.

Pakistan manager Adbul Raquib said the panel unanimously decided to play Safraz ahead of Akmal.

In other changes, Shoaib Malik and Khurran Manzoor have come in for struggling batsmen Faisal Iqbal and Misbah-ul-Haq, while teenage paceman Mohammad Aamer returns in place of Mohammad Sami.

Meanwhile Australia has recalled opening batsman Simon Katich, who will replace Phillip Hughes at the top of the order.

Akmal Brothers save the day for Pakistan

bef50beec7st Akmal Brothers save the day for PakistanPakistan after getting reduced to a disastrous 85 for 5 fought back superbly through Umar Akmal and his older brother Kamran Akmal to end Day 3 at 307 for 8. Umar Akmal went onto score a century on Test Debut! The Akmal Brothers put on a terrific counter punch with a partnership of 176 for the sixth wicket. New Zealand still hold the game in their control as Pakistan have a deficit of 122 runs and there are a couple of days left in this Dunedin match. Pakistan would be looking for some weather intervention to keep New Zealand away from a victory.

New Zealand resumed Day 3 at 404 for 8 and could add a further 25 runs before getting bowled out. Mohammad Asif finished with 4 for 108 in 34 overs. Pakistan in their first innings got off to a bad start when Khurram Manzoor dragged his forcing shot onto his stumps off Chris Martin in the 4th over. By lunch, Pakistan lost their other opener Imran Farhat who challenged an lbw decision through a review but in vain. Martin was again the successful bowler to take this wicket and Pak went to lunch at 50 for 2.

Pakistan had more trouble in store in the afternoon session as they lost three more wickets to put New Zealand in a winning position. Shane Bond bowled at his very best to pick the wickets of Skipper Mohammad Yousuf (17), Fawad Alam (29) and Shoaib Malik (2) in the space of around 4 overs. Yousuf played an uppish drive back to Bond who came up with a forward diving catch. Fawad Alam and Shoaib Malik both fell to rising deliveries.

At 85 for 5, the Kiwis were right on top of Pakistan but the Akmal brothers had different ideas. Umar Akmal initiated the counter attack by slogging Vettori over mid wicket for a six and his older brother Kamran joined the fight in same vein. For the next 40 overs or so, the Kiwi attack was put to sword before Kamran Akmal threw his wicket by giving the charge to Vettori but only to edge his big shot to slip. The wicket keeper batsman scored a superb 82 from 136 balls with 11 fours and a six.

Towards the fag end of the day’s play, Umar Akmal got dismissed getting caught at deep point after a brilliant 129 (from 160 balls with 21 fours and 2 sixes). Vettori rounded off the day with the wicket of Umar Gul.

Mohammad Asif, Yasir Arafat and leggie Danish Kaneria picked up a couple of wickets each.

The Pakistanis had a bad start though with the bat losing Khurram Manzoor cheaply. They finished Day 1 of the 3-day match at 14 for 1 in 9 overs of batting. Imran Farhat on 10 and Fawad Alam on 0 are at the crease for the tourists. This match could be a good eposure for young Umar Akmal who is lining up for a Test Match Debut at Dunedin.
