Shallow quake hits southwest Pakistan: USGS
QUETTA: A shallow 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit southwest Pakistan on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake struck at 5:53 am (0053 GMT) around 330 kilometres (200 miles) southwest of Quetta, the capital of the province of Baluchistan, at a depth of eight kilometres.
A powerful 7.2-magnitude quake that hit southwest Pakistan in January sent people rushing from their homes in panic but did not cause significant casualties.
Pakistan was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake on October 8, 2005 that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless, mainly in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. AGENCIES

PESHAWAR: A moderate earthquake of 5.0 magnitude jolted northwest Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan on Thursday but there were no immediate reports of casualties, an official said.
The quake struck at 2:27 pm (0927 GMT) with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush mountain range, meteorological department chief Arif Mehmood told AFP.
Tremors were felt in several cities in northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its capital Peshawar, he said.

BEIJING: A 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit China”s remote northwestern Qinghai province Saturday, the US Geological Survey said, in the same region where a strong quake killed more than 2,000 people last month.
The quake, which struck at 10:29 am (0229 GMT), was centered in Yushu prefecture, 376 kilometers (234 miles) south-southeast of Golmud at a depth of 50 kilometers.
The remote, high-altitude region, which borders northern Tibet, is sparsely populated. China”s seismological bureau said the quake had a magnitude of 5.7.
