General Election 2010: stunned David Cameron offers to work with Lib Dems
David Cameron made an unprecedented offer to the Liberal Democrats yesterday to join the Conservatives in a power-sharing deal.
After almost 24 hours of turmoil and uncertainty, the Tory leader set out areas of possible co-operation with Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader.
He made what he described as a “big, open and comprehensive offer” to Mr Clegg. He pledged co-operation with the Lib Dems on the environment, changes to the tax system and the scrapping of ID cards.

Mr Cameron’s hand was forced by his failure to secure an overall Commons majority and by Gordon Brown’s refusal to concede defeat.
Earlier, Mr Clegg had told the Tories that, as they had won the most seats and the most votes, they should be allowed the first try at forming a government.
That prompted Mr Cameron to call a press conference in which he said he would outline his plans for how he might try to put together a Tory-led administration.
However, Mr Brown beat him to the punch and gave his statement outside Downing Street in which he made his own offer to Mr Clegg. Mr Brown said he would hold a referendum on voting reforms that could lead to a fairer electoral system.
In response, Mr Cameron made an unprecedented offer to Mr Clegg.
The Tory leader outlined the areas of policy agreement between the two parties, which he said offered “a strong basis for a strong government”.
He acknowledged that there would have to be reform of the electoral system and he proposed the creation of an all-party committee of inquiry to look at the issue. But that is unlikely to go far enough for Mr Clegg.
If he took his MPs into a coalition, the Tory-Lib Dem pact would command a Commons majority.
Any deal between Labour and the Lib Dems would not secure a majority but would represent a powerful pact.
Still shocked by the Conservative failure to win an outright majority, Mr Cameron said it was vital that there was stable government while the economy was under threat in the global financial turmoil.

MONTREAL — It’s rare that a title challenger gets an immediate rematch in mixed martial arts.
When Mauricio (Shogun) Rua steps into the cage Saturday against light-heavyweight champion Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida at UFC 113 in Montreal, he will become only the second person in UFC history to do so.
The last fighter to find himself in such a position was Pedro (The Rock) Rizzo, who earned another crack at the gold after losing a controversial decision at UFC 31 on May 4, 2001 to then heavyweight titleholder Randy (The Natural) Couture.
However, Rua (18-4), who many feel was robbed against Machida (16-0) at UFC 104 in October, doesn’t want to follow too closely in those footsteps. After all, Rizzo (17-9) went on to lose his rematch by TKO six months later at UFC 34.
Though he felt he won the first encounter, Rua doesn’t see himself as a king without a crown.
“No, not at all,” Rua said through his translator. “I will consider myself the champion when I get the belt.

“I have watched the fight a number of times and I still think I won, despite what the judges scored it. Regardless, I expect Lyoto Machida to come with a different strategy. I spoke with my team, we discussed it and came up with a different strategy as well.”
Machida, who is no doubt tired of hearing about the first fight, said he beat Rua fair and square.
“I still feel I won the fight, but people can say whatever they want,” Machida said through his translator. “The fact is, I won.
“In the last fight, I think they did a really good job of studying my game. They studied it well, but they didn’t do enough to beat me.”
Both men will get the chance to prove who the better fighter is Saturday night.
In the co-main event, Josh (Kos) Koscheck and Paul (Semtex) Daley will battle for a welterweight title shot and coaching spot on The Ultimate Fighter opposite division champion Georges (Rush) St. Pierre.
While there has been a fair amount of trash-talk leading up to the bout, both guys have toned it down now that UFC 113 has arrived. However, in February Daley (23-8-2) started an online contest for fans to come up with a new hairstyle for Koscheck (14-4), who he says looks like a character from Jim Henson’s 1980s TV show Fraggle Rock.
At the pre-fight press conference Daley showed off the winning entry — a digitally-altered photo of Koscheck as late artist and television host Bob Ross.

Anthony Johnson vs Josh Koscheck fight video, Anthony Johnson vs. Josh Koscheck Video – UFC 106. By mmavideos. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson fights Josh Koscheck @ UFC 106 Ortiz vs. Griffin II from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. … Great fight, minus the eyepokes. I was personally hoping for G.S.P. to annihilate Hardy so I can see this Rumble/G.S.P. fight, but now I can’t WAIT for Hardy to get whooped and see Koscheck face G.S.P. for the title.
