With the sold-out L.A. Marathon–that’s 25,000 people–on its new, yet popular, Stadium to Sea route, street closures will be aplenty this Sunday. The race moves mainly through Los Angeles, but it will also affect streets in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
Downtowners interested in checking out the race no longer get to roll out of bed just in time for the finish, but the scenes of runners and wheelchair racers are worth getting up early.
“I’ve had more than one elected official tell me that he hasn’t seen the greater Los Angeles region cooperate like this on anything since the 1984 Olympics,” added Marathon President Russ Pillar.
The LA Marathon 2010 starts early today, Sunday, March 21. See the list of LA Marathon street closures as provided by CBS.

Latest update news:-Once a year you can experience traffic free streets in normally congested Los Angeles as roads are blocked off for runners and bikes for the LA Marathon. The annual Los Angeles Marathon events include the 26.2 mile Marathon past some of LA’s most famous landmarks and through diverse neighborhoods with festivities all along the course. Block Parties with live performances are spaced along the route to entertain fans while they’re waiting for runners to pass. The biggest festivities are, of course, at the Finish Line Festival. Other events associated with the Marathon are the Health & Fitness Expo at Dodger Stadium and the Win Forever Motivational Dinner with Pete Carroll the night before the race. This year the 5k run/walk will be held the day before the LA Marathon.
The 2010 LA Marathon has a new point to point route, beginning at Dodger Stadium and running to the Santa Monica Pier.
