Lahore: 109 LDC vacancies, 20,000 applicants
For the Lower Division Clerk (LDC) position in the Lahore High Court (LHC), the minimum educational requirement is of Matric but most off the applications were from youths with higher qualifications.
Sunday was the last day to submit the applications and so far more than 20,000 applications have been received. The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court said that the vacancies would be appointed on merit in a transparent manner.
AQ Khan urges political parties to join hands
Nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan said that the country was facing difficult situation and all the parties should be united in these circumstances.
Dr Qadeer’s 75th birthday was celebrated in the Lahore High Court organised by the Adlia Bachao Committee. On this occasion, Dr Qadeer, in a telephonic address, said that the government should take the lawyers along to solve pressing issues. He urged all the political parties to join hands in this situation.
Diplomatic immunity law: notice issued to federal govt
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court issued the notice to the federal government over Diplomatic and Consular Privileges Act 1972, TrendPK.com reported.
A petition has been filed against the law. The CJ LHC Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry refused to summon former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi saying its too early to call him at the moment.
The petitioner Azhar Siddiqui pleaded that no law gives diplomats license to kill. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till 14th March.
Raymonds name put on ECL: Rehman

The name of US national Raymond Davis, who killed two Pakistanis in Lahore, has been put on Exit Control List (ECL) in pursuance of the Lahore High Court orders, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Wednesday.
He, however, confirmed that Davis held a diplomatic passport. In the meantime, US Consulate General Ms Carmela Conroy met with Raymond Davis at Lahores Chuung Cetre and gave him chocolates and other things.Earlier, Lahore High Court ordered to record statements of the family of one of the two deceased Faizan besides directives to assign the investigation task into the said case to some senior police officer.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government wrote a letter to foreign ministry against US consulate over its lack of cooperation regarding the probe. The letter also called on the FO to bound the US consulate in this respect.

Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry has taken oath as the Chief Justice Lahore High Court at the Governor House, trendpk.Com reported on Thursday.
Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has administered the oath to him.
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Law Miniter Rana Sanaullah, some cabinet members, LHC judges and a large number of lawyers attended the oath-taking ceremony.
It is pertinent to mention that Ejaz has replaced Khawaja Muhammad Sharif who got retired on Wednesday(yesterday).
Lahore: ban on use of sugar in offices challenged
The ban imposed by the Punjab government on the use of sugar in government offices has been challenged in the Lahore High Court, News Trends reported on Wednesday.
Advocate Azhar Siddique has pleaded in his request that the ban imposed proves the incompetency of government. The government, instead of taking action against hoarders and black-marketers, has banned the use of sugar in government offices which is neither beneficial for the masses nor it would help control the sugar prices. He also pleaded that if the Chief Executive of the province feels so helpless then he should immediately resign from his post.
LHC Throws out Plea Against Discretionary Powers
Lahore High Court declared a writ petition against discretionary powers of the President, Prime Minister, governors and chief ministers as non-maintainable on Thursday and dismissed the plea.
Ilmuddin Ghazi Advocate in his petition contended that the rulers are using the discretionary powers for political motives, which deny the eligible people from their right but also violate the fundamental human rights.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed declared the plea as non-maintainable and dismissed it with the remarks that helping or rewarding someone is not a wrongful act.

LAHORE: The discretionary powers of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have been challenged on Tuesday in Lahore High Court.
The plea registered by advocate Ilm-u-ddin Ghazi said that according to Article Five of the constitution, all citizens of Pakistan are equal, while the President and Prime Minister violate the article by using their discretionary powers for a few favorite people.
The applicant demanded equal rights for everyone, saying that the President and Prime Minister must be stopped from facilitating favorites. Trend Pk

LAHORE, News Trends: The Judicial Council has reached consensus on appointment of justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed as Chief Justice Lahore High Court after the retirement of incumbent CJ LHC justice Khwaja Sharif.
According to sources, the incumbent CJ LHC justice Khwaja Sharif to retire on Dec 8.
In a meeting of JC, it has been decided that LHC’s senior judge justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry to succeed the current CJ LHC Justice Khwaja Sharif as he is going to retire from the post on December 8.

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission has unanimously nominated Justice Ejaz Chaudhry as new Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Trend Pk reported Saturday.
Justice Ejaz Chaudhry is the senior most judge in Lahore High Court.
Incumbent Chief Justice Khawaja Sharif will retire on December 8, 2010.
The Judicial Commission held its first formal meeting to finalize the nomination for the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry chaired the meeting.
According to a Trend Pk correspondent, all 11 members of the commission unanimously nominated Justice Ejaz for the slot. Trend Pk
