0f58211806t sc01 natalie merchantThe latest Natalie Merchant album “Leave your Sleep” has officially arrived April 13, 2010. This is Natalie’s first studio album since 2003 and is highly anticipated by her fans. She’s had a 25-year music career and recently has been working to help with various charitable causes. Now it’s time to bring some great new music to the masses. On her website Natalie discusses the unique approach she took to the new project:

“The lyrics for Leave Your Sleep are another departure from the way I had written for the past 28 years. I decided to set poetry created by other writers to music. I chose works by both well-known and obscure poets, ranging from anonymous nursery rhymes and lullabies to poems by British Victorians, early and mid 20th Century Americans, and a few contemporary writers. Ogden Nash, E.E. Cummings, Robert Louis Stevenson, Christina Rossetti, Edward Lear, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and Robert Graves are among the most well known of the group.”

There will be two Natalie Merchant “Leave Your Sleep” albums available for purchase today. One is a 26 track deluxe version, while the other is a 16-track “selections” version with abridged liner notes. Natalie will also embark on a full United States tour for Summer 2010 to promote her new album.

robin van persie

af4d03511b15140c robin van persie Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Dutch striker Robin van Persie will be in the squad to face Tottenham on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined for five months after rupturing ankle ligaments whilst on international duty last year.

His absence has been a big blow for the Gunners and they have failed to find a regular force up front since Van Persie’s injury.

But they are still in with a shout of Premier League glory and they travel to White Hart Lane to face Spurs in search of three points that would keep the pressure on at the top of the table.

Wenger expects the Holland international to feature during the North London derby, although he would not reveal if he would start.

“He will feature, he is in the squad for tomorrow’s game,” he said.

Asked if he would be in the starting XI, Wenger added: “It’s a bit premature maybe so I will see, but he’s in the squad, I haven’t picked the team yet.

“When I pick a player it means that he is fit and sharp and he has worked very hard.

“Of course he lacks a bit of match practice but physically he is ready, he is fit.

“There’s always a gamble, I don’t want to deny that, there’s always a gamble in such kind of decisions.

“But in his case we have been a bit more cautious because he has had a long time of preparation.

“He is a very important player at this club and he is important for the confidence of our offensive power and he is a player who can contribute as well.

“I am very happy to have him back. The sadness was that we lost him very early in the season.

“Of course we would have loved to have him for the whole season.

apple store

c2be3dd2f900x171 apple store The Norwegian company that makes the Opera Internet browser said Tuesday that its software had been approved for iPhone, making it the first browser that competes with Apple’s own software to gain full access to the popular smartphone.

Shares of Opera, which is based in Oslo, rose more than 2 percent in a falling market as investors anticipated that the announcement would lift Opera’s presence in the United States, where its mobile Opera Mini browser is primarily found on the BlackBerry.

Opera, which said it had 50 million mobile users before the announcement, plans to give away the Opera Mini at Apple’s application store. The software, which promotes faster browsing by compressing Internet data before displaying it on a mobile device, will be available on the iPhone and iPod Touch by Wednesday.

The distribution through Apple is designed to help Opera, which was created in 1995 and has 800 employees, generate more revenue from the advertising and search engines that the company builds into its browser.

“This is certainly good news for us and this will help us expand tremendously in the United States,” said Tor Odland, a spokesman for Opera in Oslo. “We are basically on every other type of device in the world and this covers a big hole for us.”

Apple already offers several browsers, like Incognito, Aquari and Shaking Web, besides its own Safari browser at the iPhone app store. But all of those use Safari’s own software rendering engine or other Apple components.

Opera Mini is the first browser, Mr. Odland said, that has been approved to use its own software engine and components on the iPhone.

The approval came after Opera spent several months in negotiations with Apple. Opera submitted a formal application to Apple a few weeks ago, Mr. Odland said.

Although sales have been rising, Opera has been struggling to maintain profit as it seeks all-important distribution deals with the world’s largest mobile phone and computer makers.

The Norwegian company filed an antitrust complaint in December 2007 with the European Commission challenging Microsoft’s practice of bundling its Internet Explorer browser into its Windows operating system.

The commission upheld Opera’s complaint, and Microsoft agreed to distribute the browsers of its rivals, including Opera, through Windows starting this year in Europe.

But the legal victory has not compensated for the effects of the economic slowdown in Europe and Asia, which along with rising operating costs have weighed on Opera’s financial results. The company’s net profit fell 88 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009, the last results reported by Opera, to 4 million kroner, or $680,000, from 31.1 million a year earlier.

For all of 2009, Opera’s profit fell 65 percent to 30.9 million kroner from 87.8 million, as sales rose 59 percent to 184.9 million kroner from 116.3 million in 2008.

“The Apple announcement is good news for Opera but I don’t think it will be a game-changer,” said Carolina Milanesi, an analyst with Gartner in London. “The browser experience with Safari on the iPhone is fine. That is partly why the iPhone is so popular. That will be tough competition for Opera and the other rival browsers.”

ben roethlisberger

a4b4d98c50runk 2 ben roethlisberger Ben Roethlisberger might have promised to be a role model, but the district attorney who declined to press sexual assault charges stemming from a drunken evening at a nightclub said it was the actions of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, not his words, that would prove it. You can do better,” Ocmulgee, Ga., Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright said today on “Good Morning America.” “Everybody makes mistakes and life and we all learn from them hopefully.”

Roethlisberger, dubbed “Big Ben” by Pittsburgh Steelers fans, had been accused of a sexual assault last month by a 20-year-old Georgia College and State University student who claimed the assault took place in a Milledgeville nightclub.

Steelers’ President Art Rooney II said in a statement that his star player would now have to focus on regaining the respect and trust of team’s fans and live up to the leadership that is expected of him.

“During the past few weeks, I have met with Ben on a number of occasions, not only to discuss this incident but also to discuss his commitment to making sure something like this never happens again,” Rooney said in the statement.

3fa2ea01db420x0 funeralDecency v free speech: grieving father goes to Supreme Court to fight weirdos of the Westboro church Some nights Albert Snyder wakes up at 3am. Other nights he doesn’t sleep at all, tormented by thoughts of the hateful signs carried by a fundamentalist church outside his Marine son’s funeral.

“Thank God for Dead Soldiers.”

“You’re Going to Hell.”Semper Fi Fags.”

Hundreds of grieving families have been targeted by the Westboro Baptist Church, which believes military deaths are the work of a wrathful God who punishes the United States for tolerating homosexuality.

Most mourners try to ignore the taunts. But Mr Snyder couldn’t let it go. He became the first to sue the church to halt the demonstrations and he’s pursued the group further than anyone else.

Now, more than four years after his son died in a Humvee accident in Iraq, Mr Snyder’s legal battle is headed to the Supreme Court. And his tireless efforts have drawn support from across the country, including a wave of donations after he was ordered to pay the church’s court costs – a $US16,500 judgment that the congregation plans to use for more protests.

Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, 20, was not gay. But for the Westboro church, any dead soldier is fair game. Pastor Fred Phelps oversees a congregation of 70 to 80 members – mostly his children and grandchildren. They consider themselves prophets, and they insist the nation is doomed.

As Mr Snyder sees it, Westboro isn’t engaging in constitutionally protected speech when it pickets funerals. He argues that Mr Phelps and his followers are disrupting private assemblies and harassing people at their most vulnerable – behaviour that’s an incitement to violence.

I have asked the American Legion state  ommander in Maine to reach out to his family. Indeed everybody in The American Legion stands with his family.”
