Seven dead, Hundreds Injured in Iran quake

At least seven people have died and hundreds more were injured in a 6.5-magnitude earthquake which struck southeastern Iran.

ddd19a86Iran quake Seven dead, Hundreds Injured in Iran quakeThe late Monday quake, with epicentre near the town of Hosseinabad in Kerman province, was followed by 22 tremors, including one of 5.0 magnitude, the agency said quoting the geophysics department of Tehran university.

“So far damages have been concentrated in villages in the areas of Sahraj and seven dead and hundreds of injured have been removed from the debris,” Mehr quoted Kerman governor Esmail Najjar as saying.

“Considering the damages the death toll is expected to rise,” he said.
The quake struck at 10:12 pm (18:42 GMT) Monday and was even felt in the bordering province of Sistan-Baluchestan.

Mohsen Salehi, head of disaster management of Kerman province, told state news agency IRNA late on Monday that the communication lines in the area were down and the quake was followed by mild tremors.

State media reported that the quake affected region was largely mountainous and hence access to it was cut off making it difficult for relief to reach the victims.

Hosseinabad lies near the city of Bam, the site of the deadliest earthquake to hit Iran in recent times.

The body count stood at 375 by sunset on Tuesday and was expected to rise. Many people were missing and Cambodians had many questions about one of the darkest days of their country’s

recent and troubled history.

The cause of the stampede on the Diamond Gate bridge late on Monday, the last day of an annual three-day Water Festival, remained a mystery.

Gunmen kill 7; injure 11 in Jafferabad shootout

SOHBATPUR: At least seven persons were shot and dead including two kids whereas11 others sustained injuries when two clans from Hindu community exchanged fire over a trivial dispute in Sohbatpur area in Jafferabad late on Monday night.

The clash occurred over construction of a new wall, which prompted gunmen groups to open an indiscriminate fire on each other, killing seven persons including 2 minor kids and wounding 11 others, sources told media.

Injured and bodies have been shifted to Hospital for medical attainment wherein three among them were said to be critically injured, hospital sources said.

Subsequently, police claimed to have lodged FIR against 3 alleged persons of Hindu community but no arrest has been made so far.

Nawaz gloomy over Jinnah Hospital attack

LAHORE: Quaid Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Mian Mohammed Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over deaths of innocent people in attack carried out by unidentified gunmen on Jinnah Hospital here late on Monday night, Geo news reported.

Also, Nawaz issued directives to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Mohammed Shahbaz Sharif to make sure the apprehension of terrorists involved in attack.

According to his statement issued through PML-N’s political Secretary Asif Karmani, he directed PML-N’s party workers to take active part in raising blood donations for those unlucky who were left injured amid tragic incident, sources said.

Israel to formulate response to Iran nuclear deal

JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to meet on Tuesday with senior members of his cabinet to formulate Israel”s response to the Iran-Turkey nuclear deal, officials said.

“The prime minister is holding security consultations,” a senior Israeli official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Late on Monday, Netanyahu ordered his ministers not to discuss the issue until Israel issues a formal response, his office said. Earlier, a senior Israeli official accused Iran of having “manipulated” Turkey and Brazil.

Wood Godown Catches Fire in Peshawar

dc698a51aeshawar Wood Godown Catches Fire in PeshawarPESHAWAR, Pakistan News: Hundreds of wood storerooms located on Wazir Bagh road in Yakka Togh area caught fire late on Monday night but nonetheless; the fierce blazes are still out of control.

According to sources, the fire erupted in wood godowns engulfed the entire area and left burnt to ashes hundreds of shops and storerooms but the fierce blazes of fire could not be be brought under control till Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, residents of the area said the nearby residential areas have been evacuated due to horrific intensity of blazes, which could also engulf the homes located closely.

They said it has also been feared the fire will engulf the nearby petrol pump and a possible powerful explosion could occur.

The fire has so far burnt to ashes woods worth of millions of rupees, the storeroom owners claimed.
